Old thread

Ten points to DarlingNikita who spotted my deliberate mistake - I meant, of course, "cutting the judges' comments to make it LOOK as though they are sending home the wrong people." Ahem.

It’s the final!!
I’m currently watching the final episode of series 5 to get me in the mood for tonight Cake

PinkDaydreams · 29/10/2019 10:45

They’re doing simple bakes in season 5 of the final technical, Victoria sponge, citrus tart and a scone. I hope they do something similarly basic in tonight’s final rather than a stupid glass box type hanging kebab thing complete with stacks of air Hmm

DuckWillow · 29/10/2019 10:51

Who is going to win then? What’s the feeling about that?

I’m going for Stef just on the way the show has been edited.

However wouldn’t put it past them to choose another person at the last minute.

PinkDaydreams · 29/10/2019 10:54

From the beginning I thought Alice would win but as times gone on I think it’ll be Steff. I agree the show seems to have been heavily edited in Steffs favour.

spiky54 · 29/10/2019 11:00

I think it’s very unlikely to be David on the basis of the tone of his tweets over the series.

ppeatfruit · 29/10/2019 11:00

wowfudge I agree with you, Steffi seems to be quite shy to me. (As I said upthread her body language is very lacking in confidence) I like the way she jumped when Paul appeared at her work surface.

Like Rahul I'm not sure she'll cope very well with the publicity IF she wins.

PinkDaydreams · 29/10/2019 11:11

I’m not on Twitter, is David very negative?

ppeatfruit · 29/10/2019 11:21

There's a lovely recipe by Rosie (well her mum's !) in the Radio Times.

spiky54 · 29/10/2019 11:31

Not negative exactly but he has been subtly critical of some of the judges’ decisions - for example when they criticised his layered sponge for not being patisserie-like, he posted a picture of a technical a few years ago in Patisserie week, which was for layered sponges with a comment like ‘just saying’ or something like that. I happen to agree with him - but I’m not sure he’d post comments like that ( and others) if he’d won. I could be completely wrong though!

TricklBOO · 29/10/2019 11:36

I've baked bread, scones and steak pasties today in honour of the final. Got my domestic goddess on.

ppeatfruit · 29/10/2019 11:41

Are you going to send in pix to Extra Slice Trick ? Halloween Grin

TricklBOO · 29/10/2019 11:47

Good gracious no! Grin Well, not unless they still have the 'fail' slot.

spiky54 · 29/10/2019 13:54

I’ve just baked chestnut and bacon scones - must be catching!

ArseDarkly · 29/10/2019 14:09

Got a recipe spiky? They sound delicious! Smile

ppeatfruit · 29/10/2019 15:34

They do still have the 'fail' pics. Halloween Grin I'm sure yours are not qualified though!!!!

I'm gonna miss Exslice and GBBO strangely . I like having that and Strictly to plan my evenings around. Halloween Grin

Happy Halloween everyone I'm off line for a couple of weeks.

spiky54 · 29/10/2019 15:57

ArseDarkly here you go. I didn’t have buttermilk so used milk instead - my baking-mad son tells me I should have used yoghurt as a substitute instead. They were quite moist and crumbly so that makes have been why. Tasted lovely though! Didn’t do the ‘whipped Marmite butter’ - just ate them with butter and Marmite. I may have had three...
Hope image is clear - it’s from this week’s Guardian Feast magazine so should be online too.

ArseDarkly · 29/10/2019 16:05

Wish I had a baking-mad Son, mine's just eating mad! Grin
