GoT is actually disgusting, isn't it?

In what way can it be described as 'entertainment'?

I seriously, don't understand why people happily sit down to watch the carnage, the immolation, the screaming children.

What is wrong with people?

I agree with you OP
It's vile.

McHelenz · 13/05/2019 21:54

OP - Moans about GoT, doesn't use any energy to express disgust that this happens IRL.

I think you're actually just trying to troll people tbh.

Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:55

Thanks, SmiledWithThe RisingSun

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 13/05/2019 21:56

Chill out love, it's only a tv show.

MallySally · 13/05/2019 21:57

GoT shouldn't be on public access TV

LOL.

Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:57

McHelen you'll have to elucidate.

I spend a lot of time, energy and money, actually, fighting vile acts against defenceless people around the globe.

Do you?

The, to watch GoT where the vast majority of violent acts are drawn from the realities of so, so many people, for Western entertainment- is...

Disgusting.

OP posts:
hellenbackagen · 13/05/2019 21:58

No it's
Not disgusting. It is fiction. Real life -''my job where kids threw petrol on colleagues and threatened to set it alight "bro " last week.'
Captured on Facebook delightfully.
Get a grip.

Fact is far worse than fiction. Op clearly led a sheltered life.

Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:59

I'll 'chill out' once my fellow world-travellers find fictional senseless violence entertaining.

HTH

OP posts:
Italiangreyhound · 13/05/2019 21:59

Sounds vile. No idea why people want to watch it.

SoupDragon · 13/05/2019 21:59

I read the first book and thought there was way too much unnecessary grimness. I couldn't bring myself to watch the TV series!

Miljah · 13/05/2019 22:01

Hellen It's my job that makes me so angry about the casual acceptance of GoT violence, the actual injuries sustained.

I see the results a lot.

It's disgusting.

Which is why I maintain this stuff shouldn't be on readily accessible TV.

“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

MallySally · 13/05/2019 22:01

I'm not a world traveller. It's brilliantly entertaining. I also enjoy emptying magazines of bullets into computer generated characters and shooting down planes in war based games. Fantastic therapy on a Friday evening after I've marked 30 books.

I'm a perfectly normal, middle aged woman who also likes to knit, walk the dog and read magazines about gardening.

We all enjoy different things. If we were the same, life would be very miserable.

fotheringhay · 13/05/2019 22:02

I totally agree OP. But the level of debate on here is so dire I think you're wasting your time!

McHelenz · 13/05/2019 22:02

@Miljah I do the best I can. I also work in an environment supporting vulnerable people.

But yes I come home and enjoy GOT, and true crime etc etc.

You're just coming across as a pompous arse. Holier than thou.

Torsz · 13/05/2019 22:02

Genuinely thinking this is a troll - surely nobody actually thinks like this?!

MallySally · 13/05/2019 22:03

the actual injuries sustained

It's 👏 not 👏 real 👏

You seem to be having real issues distinguishing between amazingly produced make up and graphics and actual real life.

MallySally · 13/05/2019 22:03

Agreed, Torsz. Sounds like someone attention seeking to me.

WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe · 13/05/2019 22:04

I don't enjoy it either. Watched some of the first series and struggled to see how watching incest, rape and violence would entertain me further so have ignored the rest.

Not sure why OP has had quite such such a hard time.

Those of you who watch it, and especially those who have stated it's morally superior to soaps etc, would you be happy with teenage kids watching it?

McHelenz · 13/05/2019 22:05

Dire because not everyone wants to agree?

I'd be more likely to join in with you all debating properly if you weren't all responding like I was some idiot because I enjoy GOT.

This episode was shocking, probably more shocking that it is based on acts of war. It doesn't mean I was sat there cheering her on.

PS OP - You must of invested sometime to watch the last 6 series, or did you just decide to jump in to the penultimate episode?

MallySally · 13/05/2019 22:05

It's rated 18, so...

Miljah · 13/05/2019 22:05

Mally are you for real?

As a teacher, do you really shoot down planes in 'war based' games?

I find that a bit disturbing, if I'm honest.

I am in the 'middle-aged woman' community, if you like, and none of us do that. Do the others in the staff room know that this is how you relax?

I suspect not, as you know that that isn't actually considered 'normal'...!!

OP posts:
McHelenz · 13/05/2019 22:06

@Miljah I genuinely think you're high right now. Also, you're bloody watching it. Maybe get rid of you TV, its not good for you.

Annoyedbythemickeymousedebate · 13/05/2019 22:06

Have you read much of the many decades' worth of research that's now been done on the media and violence, OP?

Also, what do you mean by 'GOT shouldn't be on public access television'? It isn't.

MadeleineMaxwell · 13/05/2019 22:07

Hi, my name's Madeleine, I have watched all episodes of GOT so far, it's been 1 hour since my last episode.

So far, I have not burned any ships whilst on my dragon, not raped anyone, not shagged my sibling, not stuck a sword in anyone, not killed an ice zombie king intent on killing the entire world and not beheaded any interpreters.

I don't understand what I'm supposed to be desensitised to. Watching GOT does not equate to having no empathy. The empathy is kind of the point - power corrupts and this is what it looks like.

Your extraordinary claim requires extraordinary evidence.
