GoT is actually disgusting, isn't it?

In what way can it be described as 'entertainment'?

I seriously, don't understand why people happily sit down to watch the carnage, the immolation, the screaming children.

What is wrong with people?

OP posts:
RedDogsBeg · 18/05/2019 00:37

Nice try, OP, but failed again even with the addition of patronising and condescending tone. Just to make it plain I don't have a child named Khaleesi nor do I know anyone who does, but, unlike you, if I did I would not start a thread to sneer, mock and condemn them as you have done.

You seem to struggle with reading, I am not upset at all, I just don't like your attitude and behaviour.

echt · 18/05/2019 00:49

I still remain rather shocked that you're 'okay' with the gratuitous violence, especially that directed against women, because 'it drives the narrative'

If the violence drives the narrative, then it is not gratuitous. You may think it is, but then as you don't watch the show you're in no position to judge.

SaskiaRembrandt · 18/05/2019 06:25

Why does the OP think people are upset by the weird things she is saying? Is she that dense she can't see that everything thinks she is hilarious.

SaskiaRembrandt · 18/05/2019 06:28

Oh yes, do try Vikings next, OP, I'd love to hear your opinions on that!

It's an outrage! How very dare they depict those cuddly Norsemen as anything other than lovable rogues, who ran up the beaches, punched the locals playfully on the arm and enquired about the location of the nearest tavern.

CaptainBrickbeard · 18/05/2019 06:29

So, because your DH can’t explain why he watches it and is a bit too thick to follow the plot, that makes it ok for him to watch it? It’s rather more likely then that he is watching for the violence and sex if he hasn’t got a clue who any of the characters are or why they’re doing anything!

The child who burned in King’s Landing was meant to shock and distress the viewer who saw it happen through the eyes of a central character who looks now to be determined to stop Danaerys from causing more carnage. The viewer wasn’t meant to enjoy that moment, OP.

And you can’t have it every which way to suit yourself! People aren’t over-invested because they reply to a thread you started, trying to answer the (idiotic) points you raised. But you starting two threads on a show you profess to disdain, without making a single coherent point in either suggests that you have a particular fixation on the show which is far odder.

And if all I knew about a show was the bits I’d looked up to see with earbuds in then I wouldn’t be so arrogant and stupid as to imagine I could make any judgements about it. I certainly wouldn’t be going out of my way to annoy its fans for weird, trolly kicks.

CaptainBrickbeard · 18/05/2019 06:32

This thread has been useful to me as after Monday, I’ll definitely try Vikings and Rome; thanks for the recommendations!

SaskiaRembrandt · 18/05/2019 08:06

Not sure what I'm going to watch after Monday, probably old episodes of Supernatural.

madeyemoodysmum · 18/05/2019 08:17

Mumsnet.
Please can the title be edited to contains spoilers.

CaptainBrickbeard · 18/05/2019 08:22

On the spoiler front, I’m now hiding all the GoT related threads to avoid spoilers for the finale so if the OP comes back with any more bonkers, inept, over-italicised attempts at moralising I will miss it Sad. See you all on the other side!

SpeedyBojangles · 18/05/2019 08:31

Just returned to this thread..... escalated pretty spectacularly.

Think it says a lot about you OP that you have said you think people who watch GOT are disturbed and not people you want to know, yet you're married to one of this 'sick individuals'. Hmmmmm........ Hmm

CostanzaG · 18/05/2019 08:37

It's must be exhausting having such a superior black and white view of the world OP.

I went out for tea with some friends last night who are all GoT fans.... around the table was a counsellor, a midwife, an academic and a neo natal nurse. All intelligent compassionate women who can appreciate what a fantastic show it is while still expressing horror at some of the plot lines.

VampireSlayer19 · 18/05/2019 08:51

Just a side note but Khaleesi is a title not a name it’s the same as calling a child prince or princess and you get good and bad of both so it’s not that bad to have a child called it - plus if nothing else she is a badass female! Just gone abit crazy!

I am sure there were plenty of kids called Adolf back in the day!

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 18/05/2019 10:03

Unfortunately once a few hundred children have got it on their birth certificate it’s definitely a name. It’s like River - might not have been a name sixty years ago, but it’s a name now.

Torsz · 18/05/2019 10:11

I was marginally impressed for a moment there as OP managed to write an entire response without random use of italics, but then saw they had immediately posted again and were back to their old tricks 😂

VampireSlayer19 · 18/05/2019 10:19

I just mean prince and princess are names (ok is Katie Price but she called her kid princess) but they don’t represent one particular prince or princess so kids called Khaleesi IF parents regret it (which I doubt to be honest) they can just say represents a strong leader.

But I doubt any regret it would be like people regretting calling kids Jimmy after it came out about Jimmy Saville a name is a name - a person is a person with choices.

Icandothisallday · 18/05/2019 11:19

I actually think the OP SHOULD be concerned about her husband.

He watched a programme, stuck with it for 10 years but doesnt understand who is who? I bet when she has her ear buds in he doesnt even have the sound on. Just wants to see some gore.

He either has quite bad memory problems, in which case he needs medical help. Or he only watches it to see people burn and some sex. Which is odd in itself.

AuntieMarys · 18/05/2019 19:01

Just caught up with episode 5 and thought it was the best this season.
Very sad to see the Hound go.

Miljah · 19/05/2019 18:17

Some of you are really over invested in this!

OP posts:
LaurieMarlow · 19/05/2019 18:21

Some of you are really over invested in this!

I choked laughing at this.

You know, as a person who doesn’t spend time starting goady threads about shows I don’t watch.

Papellino · 19/05/2019 18:21

Can't bear to let the thread die, OP? Wink

CostanzaG · 19/05/2019 19:46

Yes op ....you really are!!

Anyone else excited/anxious for ep 6??

AuntieMarys · 19/05/2019 20:07

Can't wait. Go Arya!

VampireSlayer19 · 19/05/2019 20:12

We have tomorrow booked off work to watch at 2am 😊

Torsz · 19/05/2019 20:23

We're getting up at 5 to watch it before DH goes to work ☺️ I'd be up shortly after that anyway so this means we avoid the risk of spoilers during the day!

CostanzaG · 19/05/2019 21:38

We're debating whether to set the alarm for 2am.....or just stay up!

We're both working from home tomorrow so we're very tempted!!

I'm team Sansa but definitely thinking Arya has more work to do!
