GoT is actually disgusting, isn't it?

In what way can it be described as 'entertainment'?

I seriously, don't understand why people happily sit down to watch the carnage, the immolation, the screaming children.

What is wrong with people?

Maybe change your living arrangements

NewAccount270219 · 13/05/2019 21:21

And yes, I will sometimes subject myself to real life, harrowing stuff on TV because I know I need to understand it.

HmmGrin

GoodPlaceJanet · 13/05/2019 21:21

I agree. I cannot stand to see people in pain, even if they're just acting. GoT is just too gratuitous for me, so I don't watch it.

DantesInferno · 13/05/2019 21:23

ooh for goodness sake, don't ever go in a room showing The Walking Dead love, you'll faint dead away clutching your pearls

GOT is not just about the sex and violence, but you're obviously too fucking clever to waste your time actually watching/reading it, you just stay there judging everyone else who actually enjoys it

Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:23

Boardwalk are you being deliberately obtuse, or do you really not understand the difference between Antiques Roadshow and Game of Thrones?

If you don't, you are the sort of viewer I am aiming my disgust at. That you cannot perceive the difference between the two is what disturbs me.

I pretty much fast forwarded the whole Ramsey torturing Theon then chopping his penis off. It was too much for me. However I'm loving it..:.the plot is so clever and there is humour in it. Love Tyrion!

Decormad38 · 13/05/2019 21:24

Well watch something else then. Personally I find X factor repulsive. We all have different tastes. Thankfully.

Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:24

'Actually enjoys it'

Therein lies my problem.

To cite my OP 'What is wrong with people?'

Snowdropheaven · 13/05/2019 21:25

@Miljah - You care far too much about something that really isn't that important.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 13/05/2019 21:26

Love Island and other scripted reality shows use real people’s lives in an intensely exploitative way that has led to harm and even death.

I’m not a fan of GOT’s occasional use of relatively powerless young women as nude set-dressing, but in terms of harm done to actual human beings it’s not in the same league. And the human suffering is not played for fun. It’s not like a basic horror movie.

Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:26

I care about the desensitising nature of such stuff.

OP posts:
BlackPrism · 13/05/2019 21:26

It's made up... and it's fascinating, exciting, intelligent, gripping storytelling. We don't all like the same things but considering there is an entire genre called horror where people are melted and things I don't see why GOT provoked such wrath

Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:27

"And the human suffering is not played for fun"

Er, well, yes it is. It's entertaining us. Many on here have made that clear.

OP posts:
RedRiverShore · 13/05/2019 21:27

It was on about 2am wasn’t it, so quite easy to avoid.

Snowdropheaven · 13/05/2019 21:28

You must be a laugh a minute in your household!

I'm surprised you're not on a rant about reality tv and the increase on suicide.

picklemepopcorn · 13/05/2019 21:28

I don't watch very closely, ask DS to tell me when the battle is over etc.

I gave up on series one, but case back for the last two series because the books were brilliant but he hasn't finished them yet.

Youcant appreciate the series if you haven't followed the cast and plot.

BlackPrism · 13/05/2019 21:28

And I'm not desensitised by it at all... I still faint when I have my blood taken and cry when charity ads come on tv. I can just separate fiction from real life

Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:29

The stuff I 'don't like' is where people feel entertained by such, in most normal human societies, things regarded as disgusting.

OP posts:
Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:29

Yet, prism you choose to watch it for fun.

OK.

OP posts:
Snowdropheaven · 13/05/2019 21:30

I think you'll find A LOT of people watch it for 'fun' so think you just need to accept you're in the minority!

Miljah · 13/05/2019 21:31

In fact, that's almost worse- that, IRL, you faint at the sight of a needle, but on TV, someone else getting burnt alive is entertaining.

Have you ever contemplated that?

It's fine if it's entertaining me, but myself, hell, no....

OP posts:
Valarmorghulisss · 13/05/2019 21:31

I'm not desensitised. Luckily, I know the difference between real life and fiction. You want to censor tv shows because you're afraid that people can't distinguish between the two?

PuppyMonkey · 13/05/2019 21:31

I want to know more about your living arrangements OP. Are you saying you can’t avoid watching it and being revolted by it because someone is forcing you against your will? Shock

DantesInferno · 13/05/2019 21:31

Its fiction

why aren't you more bothered by this? that's real life - actual people dying?
I'm surprised you're not on a rant about reality tv and the increase on suicide.
