Starts Tues 5th.

Looks like it’s set in the 1990s this time.

OP posts:

Yes!

Scon(e)s
Scallions
Tayto crisps
Hallions
Open coffins
The wind cutting you in two

Reminders of home, loving it

OneInAMillionYou · 29/03/2019 09:04

Is a scallion a spring onion, or some other kind of onion? I got confused when Gerry was shouting that they were not to forget them on the sandwiches at the wake!

SapatSea · 29/03/2019 10:46

Spring onion

MargoLovebutter · 29/03/2019 10:55

Oh, the open coffin. Grew up in England but family nearly all in Ireland. Nearly crapped my pants when I had to do the whole open coffin thing, which blows the minds of most English people. Without any warning at all, I had to join the queue and kiss my dead Granny. It was only the thought of the sting of the wooden spoon if I didn't do as I was told that kept me in that queue and not running for the hills!

Loving that Gerry has a bit more of a role in this series.

Thank you SapAtSea 👍🏻

So do you all go see the open coffin and have a get together at the house before going to the church and having the funeral? Is that all on the same day? I’ve only been to funerals in England where it’s the other way round - house after funeral.

Yes, that's it. When my dad died he came home and everyone came to visit. The coffin was in one room and all the visitors were in another room. We all drank tea and ate traybakes for three days steady. Then he was buried and there was an hour or so of more tea and traybakes at the church hall and that was it all over.

isabellerossignol · 30/03/2019 22:00

The gap between death and funeral might be about three days or so. My dad's was a bit longer and it was torture for us to wait so long for the funeral.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 30/03/2019 22:43

Yes we have the wake usually at home before the funeral. Usually 2 nights. Sometimes longer. It’s a bit of an open house tbh unless the family specially requests no visitors to the home. Close family will bring food and there’s usually a group of women in the kitchen like Gerry was making sandwiches and going round with tea and coffee. Children/teens usually gathered on the floor of the hall or stairs and adults spread around the house all catching up with each other. Wakes (IME apart from a very tragic death) tend not to be solemn affairs unless you’re in the room with the body, then it’s a bit more quiet and reserved. Funeral usually 3 days after death and then back to either the family home or somewhere has been booked for more tea and sandwiches. I was at one funeral where the deceased had left money to have a big sit down meal in a hotel after her funeral. It was like a wedding! It must have cost a fortune there were so many there.

MarkleSparkle · 30/03/2019 22:44

Interesting, thanks isabelle.

Pondwater · 30/03/2019 22:49

‘Who put 50p in the eejit?’ has been said a lot in our house this week.

BondiandBabe · 30/03/2019 23:54

Was that after their concert in the venue? I was at that. Was also at a Suede concert about a year later where a couple of Elastica were in the crowd, they were standing next to me.

It was before the concert, Donna and Justine had had an argument and Donna was crying outside. Said ex "comforted" her. He was mentioned in the NME as a fan who convinced her to go back in and play the gig. And didn't I hear about that for years to come.Hmm

RuggerHug · 02/04/2019 21:49

Ok, who else shed a tear or two tonight? Orla and Joe? James leaving his freak convention? Zombie playing at the end...

Chocolatepeanuts · 02/04/2019 21:59

Loved tonight's episode once again. James was a dote. And Orla and Joe were adorable. Amd the ceasefire and the street party. It had a last episode feel to it but there's one more isn't there?!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/04/2019 22:08

Jeez, Orla is my DD1! Said it many times before (she agrees, don’t worry Blush), even looks like her. We’re trying to find an acceptable ‘prom’ dress for her and failing but she has bought many jackets and trousers frankly resembling that shell suit that she’d much rather wear. And her Grandad is the man she finds funniest in her life so that’s given her an idea too. Feck.

BondiandBabe · 02/04/2019 22:09

Loved tonight's. Loved. I felt quite emotional when James turned up at the door.
It definitely felt like a parallel to the end of the last series, but I'm glad there's another to go.

GoGoGadgetGin · 02/04/2019 22:13

Oh just finished watching on catch up, Def tears here!

GoGoGadgetGin · 02/04/2019 22:15

Bondi another episode just or full series?! 🤞

NearWildHeaven · 02/04/2019 22:19

Absolutely loving this series. Music and topics are totally on point.

Agree with PP. I had a tear in my eye when James appeared.

BondiandBabe · 02/04/2019 22:30

Surely there's going to be another series. But yes, I meant episode. Gogo gadget

Brienneoftarthiloveyou · 02/04/2019 22:42

That episode was simply perfection! James at the door, Orla and Joe & the end scene - all perfect! Loved it!

Cocolepew · 02/04/2019 22:44

Think theres one more to go,this series has been so good.

MadameAnchou · 02/04/2019 22:48

It's fab. Bittersweet now we're staring down No Deal Brexit in the face Sad.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 02/04/2019 22:52

I don’t think there is another episode! As the end credits were rolling they said “dead pixels” was on next week at 9!

I loved tonight’s episode.

Orla is just fantastic. She dances to her own beat. I love her. And Erin looked amazing in her Easter frock! Dunno why she shunned it in the first place!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 02/04/2019 22:53

Oh no I was wrong! Thank goodness! Last episode next week at 9.
