Starts Tues 5th.

Looks like it’s set in the 1990s this time.

This is fab so far tonight.... I never knew there was a dance like that to Rock the boat!?

mogtheexcellent · 26/03/2019 21:31

omg Rock the boat. Bloody loved that dance, I taught it to DD only a few weeks back...

PinkieTuscadero · 26/03/2019 21:33

That rock the boat dance used to be a feature of every Irish wedding. Grin

MrsJayy · 26/03/2019 21:40

Did you do the slosh at irish weddings its kinda like line dancing but not to Beautiful Sunday

Chocolatepeanuts · 26/03/2019 21:45

Used to be Pinkie?!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 26/03/2019 21:58

I never knew there was a dance like that to Rock the boat!?

Shock

That dance is the only reason I go to most weddings! Grin

idoliketobebesidethesea · 26/03/2019 22:18

Tonight's episode right up there with the best ever. I nearly died laughing at aunt Sarah walking up the aisle...I thought at first it was a dream scene! 🤣🤣

RuggerHug · 26/03/2019 22:21

I have never understood rock the boat. No ques at the bar during it though 🤣

Sister Michael 'is this my wake, am I in hell?'🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ILoveMaxiBondi · 26/03/2019 22:21

Me too ido! Grin

Aunt sarah is so funny. So totally unaware of everything around her!

James’ reaction to everyone chatting away as normal infront of the body! Grin

PinkieTuscadero · 26/03/2019 22:30

I thought tonight's episode was particularly strong, with Sr Michael of course being the star of the show.

  1. 'I hate tongue people'. Absolutely agree. I was always grossed out by the idea of someone placing the communion wafer on my tongue so it must be even worse to be the one handing out the host, having to fish around in all the mouths!

  2. Her chat with Uncle Colm 'Am I dead?' 'Is this my wake?' 'Am I in hell?'

Grin

This is the funniest show on TV at the moment, so beautifully written and observed. The family of characters!

That dance was done to 'Oops Upside Your Head' in the 80s in English clubs/weddings/parties. I never knew about the Irish version!

It's just too short though, need an hour at least, and series to last 22 episodes, not six!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 27/03/2019 09:11

Definitely too short! I think 22 episodes would be a bit too much. They would run the risk of running out of original material and I think shows that run for long seasons (friends, the Big Bang theory) go downhill very quickly tbh. More than 6 would be good though.

mogtheexcellent · 27/03/2019 09:37

Anyone else got Rock the boat as an earworm?

Cleebope2 · 27/03/2019 17:59

Loved the stealing of the earrings from the corpse and the dad taking orders for sandwiches in the kitchen and stressing out over the crisps.Irish wakes really can be like that. Rock the boat I see is a staple at school formals nowadays. It must have only started in the late 90s cos I never knew about it when I was young in the 80s and 90s. Good to see a cameo from Ardal O hanlon. Irish actor said must be queueing up to be in this show and it’s going to be a classic like Father Ted.

BondiandBabe · 27/03/2019 20:42

Aww, the credits rolled to Elastica this week. The soundtrack to my late teens.

As an aside my ex-boyfriend snogged Donna from Elastica outside the Limelight in Belfast, in circa 1996!

Dulra · 27/03/2019 21:01

Loved this episode been a big debate here (Ireland) all day about the pronunciation of scones people aghast that they said scons the fact they were laced with hash seems to have passed people by 😁
Can't believe some of you never did "rock the boat" was a staple at 21sts and weddings when I was young

Calamapo · 27/03/2019 21:07

I noticed 'scons' and wondered if that was a Nordie thing.

Whenwillthewashingend · 27/03/2019 21:35

We used to do "Rock the Boat" at parties when I was young, but at my 18th Birthday party, we did the same floor dance to James. "Sit down" (Yorkshire)
I love this programme so much. The music is definitely influencing my play list at the moment.

oldowlgirl · 27/03/2019 21:57

We say scons & also did that dance to James as well as rock the boat - late 90s Belfast.

RuggerHug · 28/03/2019 09:20

It's sc-OH-nes. Like bones. It's the only fault I've found in the show😪

Filtch · 28/03/2019 10:23

That was Father Dougal as the son wasn't it?

ILoveMaxiBondi · 28/03/2019 10:34

Yes Ardal O’Hanlon.

And it’s scons! Grin

isabellerossignol · 28/03/2019 11:26

As an aside my ex-boyfriend snogged Donna from Elastica outside the Limelight in Belfast, in circa 1996!

Was that after their concert in the venue? I was at that. Was also at a Suede concert about a year later where a couple of Elastica were in the crowd, they were standing next to me.

Scones is definitely pronounced to rhyme with gone in N Ireland, or certainly by everyone that I know (although I'm sure there are exceptions...)

oldowlgirl · 28/03/2019 14:10

I agree @isabellerossignol

Eve · 28/03/2019 19:58

Watching it tonight , loved it!

Scallions made an appearance and haven’t heard anyone called a hallion for a long time!!
