Starts Tues 5th.

Looks like it’s set in the 1990s this time.

It was a time so full of hope.

^^

That's how I remember it too.

Such an emotional episode tonight. Have loved the whole thing but oh....

Jenny Joyce is a fantastic character. There was a Jenny Joyce at every school I’m sure!

implantsandaDyson · 10/04/2019 09:54

IloveMaxBondi oh we had several Grin. It's funny I hadn't been in contact with people I went to school with for over 20 years and through a series of happy and sad events I've seen a lot of them over the past 18 months. There's been WhatsApp contact and for the past few weeks it's been great craic the day after Derry Girls has aired. Lots of "oh fuck was I Jenny Joyce?" panicking going on.

I'd forgotten how funny and sweet that kind of shared experience can be. We went to town after the touchy feely English teacher one Grin. I think everyone had one of those too!

whiskeysourpuss · 10/04/2019 10:11

Also loved "are you on glue". They totally know how many of MN watch it!

I was the same age as the Derry girls around that time & it was a very common saying, I don't get the whole "it's a Mumsnet thing"

DD & I watch religiously & it has definitely influenced my recent playlist choices but I definitely err on the embarrassing side of 90's music Blush

Me too Grin

Yes we used to have the glue joke back in the day too. It's just that MN is the main place I hear it now

Switsy · 10/04/2019 10:34

'are you on glue' has been around forever

ILoveMaxiBondi · 10/04/2019 10:48

I was deeply disappointed to hear them saying “play truant”. Like michelle said, no-one calls it that! I’m not sure about Derry but here in Down we were “mitching” never truant.

Mrsjayy · 10/04/2019 11:24

Round about where i lived growing people were actually on glue so we would be saying it for clarification so it really isn't a mumsnet saying. Fwiw i was never on glue

Switsy · 10/04/2019 11:30

I think 'playing truant' was used because Claire is such a goodie two shoes, she's never bunked off school before so she has no idea what the slang term would be.

whiskeysourpuss · 10/04/2019 11:59

Playing truant was skiving in my neck of the woods

implantsandaDyson · 10/04/2019 12:38

We skived, mitched or were on the beak.

I think Claire using playing truant suits her as a character - touch of the Enid Blyton's about her vernacular sometimes. My mum would have been a great one for tutting at slang words, wouldn't want to show yourself up Wink

ILoveMaxiBondi · 10/04/2019 13:21

Yes I think that’s why they had claire use it but I don’t think she would have done IRL. iYSWIM.

SapatSea · 10/04/2019 14:58

I was waiting for "mithchin" too! Erin's mum did say "get her" with raised eyebrows, so it was a nod to it being a bit posh to say "playing truant"

JessMariano · 10/04/2019 22:45

Loved it. Can’t believe we’re threatening all that with bloody Brexit.

Mrsjayy · 10/04/2019 23:47

Watched it tonight Sarah on about the eyebrows was so random Grin it is such a warm and funny programme I will miss it !

LillithsFamiliar · 12/04/2019 14:23

I love Sara's randomness! Claire fighting to keep their spot was so funny and then the way she left it to go to James with the rest of them . . .Sad I'm glad he didn't leave to make stickers adhesive labels Wink

ILoveMaxiBondi · 12/04/2019 15:01

Aunt Sara giving credit where it’s due- the eyebrows! Grin and deadly serious she was too! She’s a fantastic character.

Mrsjayy · 12/04/2019 17:47

Gawd bless Aunt Sara Grin oh and when Orla was holding the cigarette i did that when my mum was doing my hair Shock

JessMariano · 12/04/2019 19:50

I didn’t realise Clinton quoted Seamus Heaney in his speech - they played a clip on Radio 4 tonight in a programme about Heaney.

rockingthelook · 13/04/2019 21:32

Fabulous show, great tunes, very funny, but poignant too

TVname · 23/04/2019 20:55

Just catching up and watched the prom episode. So sad seeing the peace celebrations after this weekend's news. Loving this series though.
