Oh my good god. Just coming to the end of the first new episode. Thrilling.

Idris is also not bad to look at!

Middle class it is not part of a bigger story. It is the underlying principle of every story. Women's nightmares should never be a plot device.

MiddleClassProblem · 06/01/2019 01:13

Wtf? I don’t think this is your genre...

MiddleClassProblem · 06/01/2019 01:38

Sorry l, as a woman that last comment of your has really bugged me. Do you think women should be wrapped up on cotton wool?

As a woman living in London it’s something you’re alert to but you don’t live in fear of it. You still go out and live life. Just as as a parent I watch my child when out and about. It doesn’t mean programmes like The Missing shouldn’t be on (which actually is my worst nightmare).

These programmes are there for those of us who dabble with fear. If that’s not you, fine, don’t watch. The programme showed men being stalked, men being killed, men being lured into a house to be killed...

Btw, I have seen a few male friends post on fb that they won’t be using the top deck of a bus for a while...

It was a disappointing ending. Too much unnecessary death, police officers just getting gunned down when they really didn't need to. Luther going AWOL and Halliday didn't seem too concerned that he was nowhere to be seen. He used to be a goody that bent the rules for the right reasons, this was just him doing what the hell he liked and people dying in his wake.
I loved the Alice character previously and was excited to hear she was back but it was too much. Their relationship changed and we didn't really get to understand what happened. It was almost as if the two main characters had a personality transplant since the previous series. Agree too much of the Alice/George story and not enough of the murder investigation. By the end I was thinking I would be happy for them to lock Luther up and throw away the key, which is not what you want really!
I did think it would be the teachers house when they were guessing, as on the series review at the beginning of the episode they showed the teacher bit and I thought it was a bit irrelevant to be showed so must link into this episode somehow. It's ridiculous that they can make a leap to look there but not make the leap that he could be hiding out as a dead body with the mask on, which was kind of obvious.

CombinationOfWords · 06/01/2019 07:56

If Luther wasn't so bloody gorgeous I would have probably stopped watching!

ChesterGreySideboard · 06/01/2019 10:18

I’ve not counted but I think the serial killer killed as many men as women.

If women’s nightmares were never used then there would be very little crime drama.

BipBop123 · 06/01/2019 15:49

Soooooo..... will there be another series?Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 06/01/2019 16:03

^^ This! Surely that's the whole point of crime drama, as most crimes portrayed in them are somebody's nightmare?!

Why didn't Luther and Alice run off together with the diamonds? Feel like that wasn't explained- just showed them loved up 1 minute then he's like - actually I'm going to get back to work? Confused

superoz · 07/01/2019 02:23

Combinationofwords hit the nail on the head, I was thinking Luther was the villain in the end and deserved to be locked up and I didn’t want him to be!
Really annoyed they killed Benny off, he would never had made a traceable call from a landline, he was the tech guy.
Halliday too - she was a really smart character, totally unnecessary shooting, Alice didn’t even know her and the motive wasn’t there.
Luther would have known Alice would check if George was actually dead, totally pointless to have lied to her - he just wouldn’t have done it.
Alice would have just slipped in quietly and killed George rather than the comedy machine gun affair, that totally wasn’t her.
I felt they left a whole chunk out of the serial killer storyline with Hermione Norris! Just felt they tried to squeeze too much into 4 episodes and ran out of time.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/01/2019 06:50

Why didn't Luther and Alice run off together with the diamonds? That wasn't ever realistically going to happen though, was it? Maybe John sabotaged everything on purpose to prevent it from happening?

This might not be good enough explanation for you but didn't they show them cuddled up on the sofa and there news was on and there was a nurse being reported and he said he could have prevented it, or something along those lines, and then he left. So I got the impression we were meant to deduce that his heart was in the police and stopping murders.

2019Dancerz · 07/01/2019 22:54

So I’ve watched two episodes but not sure I can cope with one of Hermione torturing some poor woman - is this scene short or overplayed, so I can make up my mind?!

ChesterGreySideboard · 07/01/2019 23:31

You’ll be fine. Not as much happens as the trailer makes it seem.

2019Dancerz · 08/01/2019 06:45

Thanks!

Nanna50 · 11/01/2019 22:03

Totally agree with CombinationOfWords except I watched him on a show and went right off him.

Saucery · 12/01/2019 19:36

I’m watching from series 1, as advised by so many people, and I’m finding the violence against women a bit strong tbh. It seemed more ‘cartoony’ in the recent series iyswim, plus more balanced with Male victims.
I’m probably not explaining it very well! I think it’s why I never watched it the first time round. I get the context more now, so I am going to carry on with it as it has lots of plus points (Alice is much more fiendish and not as annoying!). There just seems to be a more gratuitous side to what is overtly shown.
