Oh my good god. Just coming to the end of the first new episode. Thrilling.

Idris is also not bad to look at!

Anyone else see a connection between Schenk and Palmer or am I seeing something that’s not there?

canigetaliein · 05/01/2019 12:25

I originally thought Luther might die & Halliday would get her own spin off series.

Mner2019 · 05/01/2019 13:07

I would so watch a Halliday spin off. So not bothered about Luther unless he’s in the grips on Line of Duty. That would be soo awesome!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/01/2019 13:22

I don't think that Alice should have been in all four episodes of this series. She had only previously been an intriguing, recurring 'on the sidelines' character

MyEyesAreNotDeceivingMe · 05/01/2019 13:49

I loved the Halliday character and the actor who played her. I’m sure I’ve seen her in something else detectivey.

I would have loved to have learned more about the relationship between Vivien and Jeremy, more of a psychological thriller. I guffawed when Alice appeared in George’s garden with the automatic weapon. It seemed like a spoof.

Still enjoyed watching it though.

Aargh I so wanted to love this series and it was completely unsatisfactory Grin

It had so much promise, yet it seemed the producers badly misjudged what the viewers actually wanted to see.

The serial killer story seemed to really capture people’s imagination with its gory creepiness (going by RL conversations and social media). Hermione Norris and Enzo Cilenti were absolutely brilliant, and I wanted the final episode to show their relationship explored and exposed, yet we only got, what 5-10 minutes of an interview? AND I was even pissed off with that- Halliday picking up on Luther’s ‘cue’ about the cipher code (they should have let Halliday get there on her own, she’d been the one putting the bloody work in! And I’m not sure she and Luther knew each other well enough for her to realise where he was going with it)

Instead we got the utter bollocks of a hitman for hire who wouldn’t be called off by the person paying him, an entirely unconvincing and hackneyed gangster (trilby hat and jag e-type, really?) killing off anyone but the person he actually wanted dead, Luther staggering around saying ‘I’ll sort it’ on a fricking loop, really bloody worrying light levels over London, and Alice, who switched between brimming-eyed looks of longing and maniacal laughter.

And what a surprise it will be if she turns out not to be dead Hmm

BeyondShattered · 05/01/2019 14:07

I did actually like that Alice flipped, she has been used by Luther (though I maybe would've skipped their "relationship") and for that to be her tipping point was believable.

I just disliked all the gangsta crap. I watch for murders, Luther and Alice. Gangland stuff bores me (and I said the same during S4)

GoldenSyrupLion · 05/01/2019 15:26

It was flawed but SOOO much better than series 4.

Notreallyawaitress · 05/01/2019 16:17

Does anyone know who the played the guy who was strung up? I’m sure he is a comedian, recognised his voice?

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 05/01/2019 16:30

Oh yeah, myeyes. Alice opened fire, loudly shattering pretty much all of the glazing on the back of George’s house and peppering his kitchen with bullets. Yet when the elite police squad busted in to arrest George a split second later (and A was still stood in the flood lit garden), they don’t seem to have a) heard the commotion mere moments before, or b) noticed the smashed glass, damage to the kitchen cabinets/walls etc or Alice stood gawking in at them from the garden before she retreated.

ChesterGreySideboard · 05/01/2019 16:50

When Luther kicked in the door of the doctors house he didn’t have any kind of warrent did he? Would he still need that if he thought someone’s life was in danger?

MiddleClassProblem · 05/01/2019 16:52

Notreallyawaitress I thought I recognised him too.

I think this all just clearing the way for a film. Start fresh with colleagues, no Alice, new foes. I feel like that’s what this whole series has been about. Just cleaning the skate so to speak.

MiddleClassProblem · 05/01/2019 16:52

Slate!

StoorieHoose · 05/01/2019 16:59

I think police can break in if they think there is danger to life - I’m sure Luther has used that excuse before

NoWordForFluffy · 05/01/2019 17:04

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's allowed in relation to danger to life. Not many other things though. Perhaps crime in progress? It's been a while since I studied police powers at law school!

Gooseysgirl · 05/01/2019 17:06

Totally agree that the gangsta stuff took over far too much. I thought HN was on top form, terrific actress (shame about the botoxy cheeks though)

ChesterGreySideboard · 05/01/2019 17:10

But they had nothing much to link the missing woman to the surgeon. It was only a hunch that she would had even been taken by him, people go missing all the time.

MiddleClassProblem · 05/01/2019 17:17

Looking at the credits I think upside down man was this guy but looked a lot like Noah Taylor in that scene...

Noah Taylor:

Charley50 · 05/01/2019 17:33

@ChesterGreySideboard - they saw the footage of him in the lift; with the dayglo mask on. That's how they knew it was him.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 05/01/2019 17:53

Luther/ Line Of Duty crossover!!! Can you imagine. I’d love to see Hastings be the one to bring Luther down!!

I somehow doubt that Luther would take too kindly to being called Boyo

Thegirlinthefireplace · 05/01/2019 18:12

Chester the link with surgeon and fridge girl was that they had CCTV of him in his LED hood at her building (in the lift I think) so they did have good, valid reason to believe it to be him.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 05/01/2019 18:12

Sorry, missed Charley50 already said that

ChesterGreySideboard · 05/01/2019 18:21

Ah I missed the lift cctv footage.
Still a lot of faff to go to to get some random woman.

BishopBrennansArse · 05/01/2019 18:31

That jag isn't an e type 😂
