Bros : After the Screaming Stops

Has anyone else watched this? It’s on the BBC iPlayer, and I watched it this morning. It’s a documentary that explores the brothers’ time in the band and a bit about what they’ve done since the split. Weirdly, the third member of Bros, Craig, was airbrushed out - not mentioned or even referenced at all. It mostly focussed on a come back concert that they performed at the O2.

In my opinion, neither brother came across particularly well - they both have huge egos and want to be the ‘boss’ in the band. They’ve spent most of the last 25 years in the States, and take themselves way too seriously.

I did enjoy it, but, probably, for the wrong reasons - it was cringeworthy and a bit of a car crash. Would be interested in hearing what others thought of it.

“The best toy we had growing up was a dart. No dart board, just a dart' - Matt Goss”

Pure comedy gold Grin

I'm still sniggering at the 'bubbles' comment from Matt 😂

WhiteDust · 04/01/2019 09:54

alan

His butter knife analogy is truly inspirational.

He was a rectangle
I was a rectangle
And we made a square
Which is therefore a fortress

lardass88 · 04/01/2019 10:17

I'm still giggling over the conkers petition.. Luke was just like wtf? 😆

Haven't seen it yet but loads of people posting quotes from it on FB. Looks like pure comedy gold Grin

Watched this last night. Very clever, and completely hilarious. They have clearly decided to do a ‘Hasselhoff’ and revive their careers through parodying themselves. Love it!

cushioncovers · 04/01/2019 15:23

So was it intentionally to look daft and a bit dim?

alansleftfoot · 04/01/2019 15:31

I don't think it's a parody at all

Karmagoat · 04/01/2019 15:34

Unfortunately it's not a parody! to think I used to be absolutely obsessed with them (I'm actually in it when they show old footage of fans outside their Mums house, blink and you'll miss me though Grin)

Croft1971 · 04/01/2019 16:10

Don't think Matt is clever enough to do a parody!

papayasareyum · 04/01/2019 16:18

they take themselves way too seriously and neither of them seemed happy, which is sad. They seemed to have the world at their feet in the 80's. Terry Wogan was so astute (as he always was) asking them "what are you going to do when the screaming stops?"

brassbrass · 04/01/2019 16:36

Watching it now...did I hear it correctly they turned down a Michael Jackson tour cos they could 'hold their own'? 🤣

charis · 04/01/2019 16:45

I absolutely loved it. They were such lovely boys when they were kids by the look of it. So great with the fans.

Utter screwballs though 😁

alansleftfoot · 04/01/2019 16:50

It was MJ's 1988 tour and the height of the Bros hysteria. They were very young and obviously believed their own hype.

brassbrass · 04/01/2019 16:50

Luke seems broken somehow

charis · 04/01/2019 17:12

I know. I did feel very sorry for him. He's still with his wife but he just wants his brother to love him 😕

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 17:13

Biggest laugh I've had in ages

feedingfrenzyatfive · 04/01/2019 17:40

I was exactly the right age to like Bros in 1988 and I proudly bought their cassette and blu-tacked the requisite posters on my bedroom wall. I soon went off of them though and couldn't imagine donning a Brosette outfit and hanging around Heathrow with a home-made banner. I thought that the documentary was very amusing and unintentionally hilarious.

I'm pretty sure that Luke starred in a film about The Richardsons? Also, Wikipedia states that they were based in Camberley, not London. I'm confused! Confused

charis · 04/01/2019 17:56

From Popbitch:

Their fortunes really turned around when they hit the big time though. During the height of their success in the late 80s, the boys often took to staying at the Effingham Park Hotel to hide away from the hordes of teenage fans who camped outside their home. While there, staff remember the day their dad came to pay them both a visit.

To the 20 year old twins' visible delight, he brought them both a top-of-the-range Scalextric to play with.

Awww 😍

LucheroTena · 04/01/2019 18:34

It (they) was bonkers wasn’t it? Comedy gold indeed, They’d both been really successful in their second careers but both seemed so sad and unfulfilled. Matt seemed on the verge of tears all the time. They both seemed lonely, especially Matt.

Croft1971 · 04/01/2019 18:53

Interesting no mention of their biological dad (I think?)

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 19:43

French and Saunders need to update their Bros sketch. Unfortunately I can't find the original on YouTube.
