Has anyone else watched this? It’s on the BBC iPlayer, and I watched it this morning. It’s a documentary that explores the brothers’ time in the band and a bit about what they’ve done since the split. Weirdly, the third member of Bros, Craig, was airbrushed out - not mentioned or even referenced at all. It mostly focussed on a come back concert that they performed at the O2.

In my opinion, neither brother came across particularly well - they both have huge egos and want to be the ‘boss’ in the band. They’ve spent most of the last 25 years in the States, and take themselves way too seriously.

I did enjoy it, but, probably, for the wrong reasons - it was cringeworthy and a bit of a car crash. Would be interested in hearing what others thought of it.

There's an interesting interview with Craig here (or 'Ken' as Smash Hits used to call him Grin)
www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37642088

He seems very comfortable and at ease with himself, I suspect her had a lot more emotional intelligence than the twins, and got out at th right time to quietly forge a career for himself.

smokealarm · 31/12/2018 13:11

I honestly thought it was a mockumentary until about 30 min in when DH said it definitely wasn't Shock

DameSquashalot · 31/12/2018 15:23

Theromanempire I thought the same about the fans.

ihatethecold · 31/12/2018 16:01

Yes the Botox was too much.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 31/12/2018 16:26

Shockstanding at the airport in her bros t-shirt with a photo album she made when she was 8Shock

BigSandyBalls2015 · 31/12/2018 16:26

Are you all sure it isn’t a wind up!?

OneFootintheRave · 31/12/2018 16:39

I watched it again today as my DP kept interrupting last night. I scorned Bros when they were big as I was into heavy rock.

Compelling and unintentionally funny. Matt could only speak through the medium of LA self help soundbytes and seemed way more insecure, with his Botox and what looked like a hair transplant. But Luke did try and wind him up occasionally although he did come across better in general.

I was also surprised as they were both competent musically but ultimately the Bros material and the O2 gig was just shite. They really had no decent hits you could even remember with nostalgia. I reckon the rest of the comeback shows were cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

violeticecream · 31/12/2018 16:57

It's the one of the best music documentaries I have seen. Was laughing so much, thinking this has got to be a spoof, then finding it sad and really felt compassionate towards them both.

OneFootintheRave · 31/12/2018 17:03

I should add, fair play to them both for carrying on in the face of being dropped and ridiculed by the tabloids and maintaining creative careers!

TheEgyptianKing · 31/12/2018 19:23

I’ve watched this twice more since starting this thread. DH thinks I’m mad, but I absolutely loved the programme, for all the wrong reasons. Incredible.

It is THE unmissable documentary of this year I think, and TV output generally

Theromanempire · 31/12/2018 19:53

Did it say on the documentary that they had to cancel all but 2 shows of the tour due to poor ticket sales? I might have read it instead but definitely saw/heard it. Bit embarrassing for them really Blush

I was a huge Brosette but would struggle to name more than 3 songs now! Do not recall the Chocolate Box one that they were discussing at all...might have moved onto NKOTB by then Grin

PawneeParksDept · 31/12/2018 19:55

The documentary ends it in a high but the news article about them cancelling the tour was trending on BBC News

Theromanempire · 31/12/2018 19:57

Must have read it on there - was googling about them at the same time as watching!

alansleftfoot · 31/12/2018 20:00

I had tickets for their Manchester show but it was cancelled following the bombing. Must watch this now to see what I missed

Partridgeamongstthepigeons · 31/12/2018 20:06

Remember watching them in the Krays film in the 90s. Watched the documentary, Matt didn't come out of it very well at all but mostly as I have 2 DSs it made me sad to see two brothers so affected by the fickleness of game.

Partridgeamongstthepigeons · 31/12/2018 20:07

Fame not game

MozzchopsThirty · 31/12/2018 20:09

Oh I'll need to watch this on catch up
I saw Matt gods in Vegas, he was hideous

Theromanempire · 31/12/2018 20:09

partridge have you got them confused with the Kemp brothers who were in the Kray film?

SirBobblyofSock · 31/12/2018 20:17

I was a Brosette for a bit. Remember reading some psychobabble Matt came out with in the Bros annual circa ~1988 (something about a single magpie being 'bad luck emotionally' or similar) and thinking then that he was probably a bit of a tosser. I'm dying to watch this documentary.

alansleftfoot · 31/12/2018 20:20

Krays film was the kemps and they're not twins

ChristineBaskets · 31/12/2018 20:40

Lol@ bros being in The Krays! With Ken as Jack the Hat Grin

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 31/12/2018 20:46

I was a brosette back in the day (and I remember Chocolate Box really well too) but I found the documentary excruciatingly embarrassing.
The airport wasn't 'set up' exactly but fans do know flight times etc, it's easy to find out where most celebrities are going to be and when.

ladyratterley · 31/12/2018 21:14

OMFG I just watched it.
It is without doubt the best thing I’ve seen on tv this Christmas.
Matt is a prime bell end & Luke isn’t that much better. I love the contrast between their looks. Matt has had a lot of work done!
Whoever said it’s like a cross between David Brent & Spinal tap is spot on.

MutantDisco · 31/12/2018 23:02

I felt like the docu had a difficult balance to strike. There were plenty of SpinalTap moments but I found watching the brothers together really tough. Fame/working together has wrecked their relationship. So many power struggles and terrible communication.

My memory of them is that, even as a 7 year old, I was aware that people thought they took themselves too seriously, and they were treated with a fair amount of contempt by the press. Anything 'pop' is always given short shrift in the UK.
