Is anyone planning on watching this?

I read the books and found them compelling but in a trashy kind of way Twilight meets Fifty Shades via witchcraft.

Not sure about the casting but I'm absolutely giving it a go tonight

For my money the casting is really in line with the book and Matthew goode’s now doing a great job of brooding vampire - the scene where they kiss this week was brilliant.

pawnee I agree about the glacial pace - are they going to spin this into 8 seasons or something like that?

Fooferella · 29/09/2018 08:31

Found it! Lissie, Go Your Own Way.
I'm enjoying the show more now that it's going somewhere. I was always going to love it though since I've been a fan of Matthew Goode for a very long time.

AdventuringThroughLife · 29/09/2018 08:46

Hmmmm I didnt think I liked the actor for Matthew Ive come round now. Thinks lustfull thoughts.

I still find it looks more trashy on tv than it felt reading it! Still enjoying it thoigh and frustrated I cant binge watch it!

CalmConfident · 29/09/2018 09:07

How old is Matthew supposed to be? Born-vampire age if you know what I mean, was it 37 ?

CalmConfident · 29/09/2018 09:08

It is trashy, but is beautifully filmed and I am loving it ☺️

sparklelike · 29/09/2018 09:22

Yes there’s a lot of what feels like well researched historical detail in the books, but on the whole,
Matthew Goode is saving it

IFeelSorryForMillie · 29/09/2018 17:02

The episodes are just not long enough, I find myself really getting into it, then it ends. Would be better as a binge watch.

sparklelike · 29/09/2018 17:25

I feel as though it barely gets going from all the ads and it’s over - think you’re right there, too little story per week.

PawneeParksDept · 29/09/2018 18:02

@sparklelike they really have done something like 3 chapters in 3 hours - it's a bit mad. This series is 8 eps and I feel like they won't even finish book one !

I'm watching on catch up so skip the adds, but still frustrating.

I was surprised they were heading to France already.

bakingdemon · 29/09/2018 19:24

I think they're bringing in stuff from later in the books at this stage - I don't remember seeing the Congregation or Venice until quite a lot later. Totally agree that the episodes feel incredibly short and quite unsatisfactory in terms of narrative progression. But oh my days do I fancy Matthew.

TheThirdOfHerName · 29/09/2018 19:47

I've started reading Time's Convert, and my mind is confused about whether to picture Matthew as he looked in my mind's eye when I was reading the original triology.

PawneeParksDept · 29/09/2018 20:08

??? Times Convert is there a new one @TheThirdOfHerName scrambles self to Amazon

I agree that this 2nd episode an improvement over the first. Also Matthew Goode...

Can’t work out if the lead actress is insipid or is f it’s the script/character of Diana. Meh.

IFeelSorryForMillie · 29/09/2018 21:46

ohhh I've just discovered I've lost the first book in the trilogy, I was going to reread it.Sad

off subject..... But have any of you read Laini Taylor's, Daughter of Smoke and Bone? it's such a good read. But sadly it is another first of a series of books that I've lost, and I bought it again after losing it the first time! I have along list of first books I've managed to lose Confused

NotANotMan · 30/09/2018 18:34

I love anything supernatural really and this is trash but very enjoyable. However Alex Kingston cannot do an American accent! How? It's so bad!

Unobtainable · 30/09/2018 21:54

I love it.

The countryside, Oxford, the female lead and oh my god, Matthew Goode ... I have no words to describe how fantastic and utterly shaggable he is in this. Blush

Great casting but agree that wig woman is ridiculous.

sparklelike · 01/10/2018 10:20

@ifeelsorryformillie, i haven't, but it's going on my list to read, love getting recommendations from people that like the same sort of books as me

MinesaPinot · 01/10/2018 14:00

Me and DH are loving it. Beautifully shot - Oxford looks wonderful (haven't been there in ages) and Venice the same.

Love the idea that the demons just seem to want a chat room.

Matthew Goode - Oh. My. Days.

MinesaPinot · 01/10/2018 14:04

PS. We taped Friday's episode and watched it last night. Safe to say I had a very intense dream about Matthew that I haven't revealed to DH.....

TheThirdOfHerName · 01/10/2018 15:06

A lot of love for Matthew Goode on this thread. Perhaps some of you should start writing for Archive of our own. Smile

AdventuringThroughLife · 01/10/2018 19:29

Until these books I had never fancied a vampire before. I so do....

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2018 15:10

Still not sure about this

Tomboytown · 02/10/2018 17:18

That kissing scene was the best thing on tv for a long time.

Somerville · 02/10/2018 17:32

Perhaps some of you should start writing for Archive of our own.

I can't write fanfic anymore because DH thinks its hilarious and reads it out loud
Point me in the direction of any good Discovery of Witches fic though.
