Is anyone planning on watching this?

I read the books and found them compelling but in a trashy kind of way Twilight meets Fifty Shades via witchcraft.

Not sure about the casting but I'm absolutely giving it a go tonight

I was hoping somebody who'd read this could enlighten me as to these two characters - stare face and Game Of Thrones bloke I CANNOT remember who they are

Oh I absolutely loved the books! I dont normally ready anything witchy/vampirey and dismissed it as twilighty/50shades when our bookclub read it but I loved it. I loved all the Oxford stuff (ex Oxford) amd all the history in later books! Much better written imho. Shes an historian if I recall.

PawneeParksDept · 14/09/2018 21:48

It's SUCH a shit wig I actually can't cope with it

Pawnee GoT bloke is Peter Knox.

Notonthestairs · 14/09/2018 21:59

The book was terrible (I've only read the first book), the programme was terrible. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Will try it again next week.

PawneeParksDept · 14/09/2018 22:00

I haven't retained any of that storyline from the books

I liked the first book, the time travelling in the second was ok but I didn’t get through the first one, just stopped caring. I watched episode 1, the scenery of Oxford and New England looks promising but in the scene where Matthew Goode wants to hunt Diana after she’s been rowing he looks constipated.

sparklelike · 14/09/2018 22:08

*didnt get through the 3rd one

ItsLikeNew · 14/09/2018 22:11

Read the books found them crap and trashy, but kind of liked themBlush
the episode is as crap as the books, but I will watch the rest.

Only the aunts seem to fit the characters I had in my head.

Mum2jenny · 14/09/2018 22:13

I've recorded it, but I find if I've really liked the books, I hate the film version.

ItsLikeNew · 14/09/2018 22:17

I found with the books I got pissed off with all the in-depth clap trap detailed rambles about irrelevant shit, like the rowing, wine, riding side saddle.......it was like the author had just done a evening classed in something and wanted to show how knowledgeable she is!

I don't remember much of book 3 as I only read it to get to the conclusion.

ItsLikeNew · 14/09/2018 22:19

has there been a film? missed that.

theluckiest · 14/09/2018 23:27

It was dreadful. Absolute pile o shite. I loved it. My new guilty pleasure.

TheThirdOfHerName · 14/09/2018 23:46

There was something a bit Dawson's Creek about it. Soft afternoon light and awkwardness.

AdventuringThroughLife · 15/09/2018 06:36

She is a university professor. I will just sit here in the smaller group of people who like it though!

I didn't think I'd like the genre at all and wouldn't now seek out anything with vaampires in but loved this series!

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/09/2018 08:34

Matthew is a professor of biochemistry, Diana is in Oxford for her post-doc in history.

There was a lot of standing around looking worried.

sparklelike · 15/09/2018 10:37

The first episode of anything is always hard though - I will definitely be watching it. The scenery was lovely and just for that it’d keep me going. My favourite scene in the first book was the first dinner in all souls.

AdventuringThroughLife · 15/09/2018 10:43

Sorry I meant the author is a university professor! Shes ever so well researched and published even if some people don't like her!

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/09/2018 10:45

AdventuringThroughLife
Cool, I hadn't known that.

DeusEx · 15/09/2018 12:07

If I’m in the UK and don’t have sky, where can I watch it? That radio times website looks a bit dodgy on mobile, lots of dubious looking links...

ItsLikeNew · 15/09/2018 13:52

AdventuringThroughLife yes I did know, and its not that I don't like her, Just I found her irrelevant ramblings boring and self indulgent.

I will be watching because despite what I've wrote I somehow enjoyed the books, to the point that I might dig out the first book and read it again, I have read it few times already Blush

Fooferella · 15/09/2018 16:16

I agree that it's silly Twilight /50 shades tripe. But I really love it anyway because it's pure escapism. I'll keep on with the show because I love Matthew Goode so much. The first episode was less than thrilling but I remember the book starting a bit meh and then getting into it.

sparklelike · 15/09/2018 16:50

Yes other than the constipation-hunting face I don’t think Goode’s doing a bad job, he’s quite well cast, it can’t be easy playing those characters

DeusEx · 15/09/2018 21:11

Ok I don’t get it: why do people love Matthew Goode?
