Is anyone planning on watching this?

I read the books and found them compelling but in a trashy kind of way Twilight meets Fifty Shades via witchcraft.

Not sure about the casting but I'm absolutely giving it a go tonight

I liked it...

@DeusEx NowTV have a 3for1 offer on which is 3 months for the price of 1 (£7.99) which is what I've signed up for to watch it. I haven't read the books but friends have been so excited to see it so I watched it on the Radio Times website and loved it. But then I don't mind trashy tv lol.

MrsLandingham · 16/09/2018 15:35

Part of it was filmed in the house of a friend of mine; they asked permission to paint his sitting room a different colour & offered to paint it back afterwards. He's a minor celeb in his home town as a result of the filming, but remains resolutely unimpressed. He even declined to attend the premier!

I haven't seen it yet because I don't have Sky, so I'm off to try the RT link.

Loved the books (trashy academic-lite fiction - great!) took a second viewing to find something to like about the TV show.

Matthew needs to lose that fucking tie clip. Naff AF. Marcus is all wrong, vampires are supposed to be handsome and he's a scruffy student type.

Drinking wine in the lab - scandalous!

sparklelike · 18/09/2018 10:30

just attempting to finish off the 3rd book. With all the amazing locations in the books, you've got to think it's worth watching for the recreations of Elizabethan England, France etc alone. I'm not sure Diana is that typical a romantic heroine - quite brave making her an academic, the way she writes her is quite measured too.

I think it could well improve - they've obviously spent quite a bit of money on the series

holycityzoo · 18/09/2018 10:47

I loved the books. I thought it was ok. I think it just needs to get going a bit.

TheThirdOfHerName · 18/09/2018 11:27

She has a new book (out yesterday) if anyone is interested. Time's Convert.

ItsLikeNew · 18/09/2018 11:52

just had a quick look at the book, it's about when Marcus was changed by Mathew.

ItsLikeNew · 18/09/2018 11:53

I was sort of hoping it would be a completely different kind of book.

Yamayo · 18/09/2018 14:13

The book killed me. It started off so promisingly until they introduced the vampire...
I gave up. It wasn't badly written, either.
WHAT a waste.

MargoLovebutter · 18/09/2018 14:31

I loved the books - my guilty pleasure!!!

I've watched the freebie, as I don't have Sky. It is AWFUL and I am utterly hooked!

May send me over to the darkside, trying to find the next episodes somewhere less proper than Radio Times!

PawneeParksDept · 18/09/2018 15:09

@MargoLovebutter temporary Now TV pass?

Oh, she was Molly in Sherlock, couldn’t think where I had seen the redhead with the appalling haircut. She was quite bad, in fact there is some pretty bad acting all round

MargoLovebutter · 18/09/2018 15:14

Oh, thanks Pawnee - good suggestion. Are Sky letting you view all at once, or are they doing an old skool series release?

GoldenBuns · 18/09/2018 15:30

Blush I really enjoyed it. it is definitely a guilty pleasure

Yamayo · 18/09/2018 18:13

Might watch the series as the cast is pretty good.
Maybe the awfulness of the books will translate on screen... sounds that way from what you are all saying.

@Atlantea thank you for posting that Radio Times link! I enjoyed it a lot. I love the books and think Matthew Goode is perfect for Matthew. I've set a series link now. Fantasy is my absolute favourite genre.

Amortentia · 19/09/2018 20:58

I must be in the minority as I really enjoyed it. To be fair, I’m in the middle of working on a project that is eating my soul so am in need of the lightest, fluffiest relief I can get. 🤪

KittyKlawsReturns · 20/09/2018 10:31

I liked it...

Me too Smile

Although Main female character was so insipid and dull yes she was - but she is in the book too, forever making pots of tea or resting because she has been 'so very strong' when she isn't doing yoga of course.

Despite that I enjoyed the books and I'm looking forward to the next episode of this.

sparklelike · 20/09/2018 11:52

she's unconventional - a lot of the female leads in these fantasy things are female action heroes, and she's definitely not in that mold, her superpower is her magic, and her figuring out the book of life. I quite like her as an off beat heroine but even in the 3rd book, she's not in the thick of the action, it's different in that way.

ShinyElena · 20/09/2018 12:38

What age rating do you think it is? It is not officially rated on BBFC. DS (10) is very interested, but we are once bitten twice shy since DH put the Man City documentary and it was all just swearing.

I enjoyed the books but I have to admit that at times Diana annoyed me but you have given me another perspective to consider.

I'd hold off for a couple of episodes it could go from 12 - 15, it will still be available so I'd just watch a few first if I were you. Recalling the books I'd 'guess' it will be around a 12 but they may spice it up a bit for TV.

KittyKlawsReturns · 20/09/2018 13:43

@sparklelight - just to add she still drinks so much tea Grin
