Is anyone planning on watching this?

I read the books and found them compelling but in a trashy kind of way Twilight meets Fifty Shades via witchcraft.

Not sure about the casting but I'm absolutely giving it a go tonight

He timewalks with her in the books, so he must be able to or they would have to change too much.

cushioncovers · 03/11/2018 17:14

But without her?

ElenadeClermont · 03/11/2018 18:04

Matthew cannot timewalk on his own.

Lessstressedhemum · 04/11/2018 08:38

Not on his own, but with her. He must go to C16th with her or they won't be able to make S2, surely?

DurtySarf · 04/11/2018 10:00

Is it too early to start our dream casting for characters we meet in series 2? Or would that be too spoilery?

ElenadeClermont · 04/11/2018 10:13

My guess would they will make it to the 16th century. They looked very attractive in their Elizabethan garbs.

I am very interested in dream-casting. We do not need to say what part a certain character plays in this drama.

MinesaPinot · 04/11/2018 12:42

Excellent news that it has been renewed. Thoroughly enjoyed the finale.

Loving Trevor Eve - DH has taken to calling him Trevor Evil because of his brooding performance.

Looking forward to Series 2

flairyfairy · 04/11/2018 18:02

For those who might be getting Matthew withdrawal symptoms (Goode or Clairmont) I’ve just found out that he has narrated the audio version of the new James Bond novel Forever and a Day.That’s my commute sorted for 30 ish hours...

Unobtainable · 04/11/2018 21:12

Thanks flairyfairy I’ll listen to that. Matthew’s voice is incredible. So rich and warm but with a touch of frost too.

Anyway, back to the finale. Because Matthew drank from Diana’s neck, does tgat mean that she’s now a vampire?

How come Matthew didnt hesr the appriaching witch’s heartbeats when they were outside the door?

What’s the poppet and the earring got to do with Matthew, his mother and Diana’s ancestor?

Agreed that Trevor Eve is outstanding!

ElenadeClermont · 04/11/2018 21:56

Diana would only be a vampire if she was completely bled out and then she drank a vampire's blood. So no, she is not a vampire. Grin

The earring was given to Matthew's mother by Matthew's stepfather. It was lost a couple of hundred years ago. It found its way to a Bishop family member who kept it in a poppet for Diana. (I do not want to spoil how.) It will all make sense. Sort of.

cushioncovers · 05/11/2018 13:23

I think Matthew didn't hear them approach because they were surrounded by that invisible cloud thing.

calpop · 05/11/2018 13:29

oh Matthew ....

Can someone please explain the vampire mechanics to me? Matthew was born from 2 normal human parents and had a human wife and son. When he tried to commit suicide when they dies, Ysebel saved him by, what, draining his blood, then givinghim some of hers, so he then became an immortal vampire. So why was her husband Phillipe his Dad? And how is Baldwin his brother - because Ysabel made him too? Similarly, is whats his name the young one Matthews son becuase he drank/fed him as well? Do we know why? Can they have biological children as well?

So many questions for people who have read the books!

calpop · 05/11/2018 13:30

so whats the difference between siring and mating?

Binglebong · 05/11/2018 14:12

Apologies if this has already been asked but can someone tell me what it means to be a demon? I'm still trying to work out how someone could be born of witches but a demon. Because to me being a demon appears to be nothing, unless your parents are demons so it's passed down? In which case you can't be born of witches? So confused!

ElenadeClermont · 05/11/2018 18:02

calpop You have explained Matthew's origins perfectly. Philippe is not his father, but stepfather. This has significance later on.

Matthew has sired Marcus by draining his blood and giving Marcus his own blood.

Vampires cannot have biological children as far as they know.

Siring is creating a vampire "child" just like Marcus was.

Mating is officially and irreversibly partnering up with someone for life.

The definition of daemons from the wiki: The origins of daemons are clouded in mystery. Daemons display a high creative capacity, and are known for their extremely free form thoughts and ideas but live a relatively regular "human" life-span. Daemons run the risk of being branded "mad" or "insane" due to their tendency for their strange and high levels of eccentricity. Certain gifted daemons, know as moonkissed have the ability to experience premonitions.
The page has spoilers on it for future books, so I did not link to it.

Demon babies appear randomly in families I thought. Their parents do not have to be demons.

Cross-species relationships (and therefore children) are banned by the Covenant. That is why Matthew and Diana are not allowed to be together either.

JuniorDetective · 05/11/2018 18:13

@ElenadeClermont I love your spoiler free explaination! To me, the way daemons are described in the books makes them sound like neuro diverse humans. Incredibly creative / gifted in certain ways like art, maths, out of the box thinking etc.

JuniorDetective · 05/11/2018 18:14

*explanation (sigh)

ElenadeClermont · 05/11/2018 18:19

@JuniorDetective Your explanation is way better.

Binglebong · 05/11/2018 18:56

I'm still struggling to understand how demons are different from humans. I must be missing something.

But thank you for trying to make sense in my brain. Not an easy task!

ElenadeClermont · 05/11/2018 19:13

I think the whole message of the books is that we are not that different Binglebong. The divisions are artificial.

ElenadeClermont · 05/11/2018 19:13

So you are way ahead of us.

JuniorDetective · 05/11/2018 19:24

It will all become clear in series 3 I think!

Binglebong · 05/11/2018 19:35

No, just confused as to why creative humans are labled demons. Grin

JuniorDetective · 05/11/2018 19:44

Maybe I've confused the matter. It was just how I interpreted it when reading the books. There were certain traits ascribed ton daemons that stuck me as neuro diverse.

But as i said, things will become clearer as the series move on.

Matthew alluded to the potential explanation when looking at Diana's genes - witches relied less and less on their magic for survival which meant certain traits died out.

ElenadeClermont · 05/11/2018 20:32

Demons, witches and vampires have different genes, but only a tiny bit different. I forgot the details, sorry.
