Is anyone planning on watching this?

I read the books and found them compelling but in a trashy kind of way Twilight meets Fifty Shades via witchcraft.

Not sure about the casting but I'm absolutely giving it a go tonight

yes there's quite a lot of filler about tea isn't there? Oblivious to it as I love tea! I'd wait and see too shinyelena as big budget productions usually mean adult audiences and there are plenty of things they could make more salacious than the books.

ShinyElena · 20/09/2018 14:17

Thank you Flowers

ShinyElena · 20/09/2018 18:54

We have watched episode 1, which was way too much academia for DS. We have decided to read the books.
I agree the rather sensuous / stalky relationship between the witch and the vampire will play a big part and will probably make the film unsuitable for DS.

HellonHeels · 20/09/2018 21:12

Just popping in to warm you @ShinyElena there's quite a bit of sex in the books. It's 'nice' sex but might be a bit graphic for a youngster.

ShinyElena · 20/09/2018 21:16

Thanks @HellonHeels.
Maybe I will read the books on kindle then, so.Ds will not know. Although DS has already read the Mortal Instruments, so we had to have several conversations about loving relationships.

liverbird10 · 20/09/2018 22:34

I hate it when books I love are made into shite films/tv shows.

sparklelike · 21/09/2018 09:55

yeah, there's plenty of sex, it's not as graphic as some but the TV companies could definitely expand on it, and I agree that a lot of romances the man is a bit over intense and controlling - she even talks about how Matthew is overly controlling because he cares.

It could be useful as a discussion at some point but not as a relationship template!

sparklelike · 21/09/2018 09:57

occasionally the adaptation lends something to the book though - Wolf Hall (Rylance), Pride and Prejudice (Firth/Ehle), Outlander and The Last Kingdom :) It doesn't all have to be one way, i'm interested to get to the time travelling part.

PawneeParksDept · 21/09/2018 21:42

This weeks anyone?

Louise Brierleys Gillian is still shocking

RJnomore1 · 21/09/2018 21:59

I thought that was an improvement on the first episode

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 21/09/2018 22:15

I’m enjoying it. Am going to order the books

PawneeParksDept · 21/09/2018 22:26

Yes that episode is keeping me watching

Theimpossiblegirl · 21/09/2018 23:22

I take back my earlier post. DD wanted to watch it so I watched it again with her and it wasn't as awful as I'd thought. We're going to stick with it.

Maybe I need to give Vanity Fair another go...

TheThirdOfHerName · 22/09/2018 07:10

This episode was slightly better. I'm finding Peter's accent very strange though.

TheThirdOfHerName · 22/09/2018 07:12

Owen Tearle is Welsh I think?
Peter doesn't sound Welsh, English or American, so not sure what he's aiming at.

sparklelike · 22/09/2018 09:27

This episode picked up. I do think Diana is a tough sell as a character, she’s so reasonable and under reacts a fair bit to the drama/danger. Matthew Goode was more convincing this episode too.

ItsLikeNew · 22/09/2018 17:08

just watched the 2nd episode, quite enjoying it. it was a while ago that I last read the books, so parts of the story line I don't remember.

DH is likes it too, said it reminds him of the itv2 programme Trinity, I'm still gutted its wasn't deemed good enough for a second season Sad

bakingdemon · 23/09/2018 11:54

Watched the first episode last night. And had, erm, dreams about Matthew.... Blush

welshmist · 28/09/2018 21:16

Gorgeous village Mathew lives in, looks like the Cotswolds.

PawneeParksDept · 28/09/2018 21:27

I think it is improving weekly, but we are literally still within the beginning of the book, how many episodes is it?! They aren't exactly moving it on

OP posts:
welshmist · 28/09/2018 22:33

The pregnant character bugged me I thought Mr. Selfridge googled and there she was Agnes Towler.

TheThirdOfHerName · 28/09/2018 23:01

I thought the actress playing Agatha was good. She had a bit more presence than some of the others.

Fooferella · 28/09/2018 23:23

The Fleetwood Mac song at the end, was that Stevie Nicks singing? It was a lovely version but I cant find it!

MistressDeeCee · 29/09/2018 01:16

I'm enjoying it. Not sure Diana has enough presence as a lead tho & hope I don't start to find her irritating. I've forgotten the dark haired witches' name - Peter's sidekick - I d prefer her as lead. Even tho her current role is over-dramatic at times. All good so far

footballmum · 29/09/2018 07:43

I’m really enjoying it. I read the first two books but it was such a long time ago that I couldn’t really say whether the tv characters are true to the books or not. Matthew Goode is fabulous! Brooding, sexy and dangerous-like any good vampire should be Grin Looking forward to seeing how the series develops.
