Is anyone planning on watching this?

I read the books and found them compelling but in a trashy kind of way Twilight meets Fifty Shades via witchcraft.

Not sure about the casting but I'm absolutely giving it a go tonight

@Unobtainable I did make an involuntary squeak when I saw the tight black pants, you never saw a vampire like that in twilight lol 😂

SlatternIsTrying · 24/10/2018 08:16

I know I’m late to the party but can I please join?

I very much have the feels for Mathew Goode. I didn’t know anything about the series until it appeared on sky. I do like a bit of Sci fi/ fantasy/ nonsense and am enjoying having something to watch on a Friday.

I haven’t read the books (yet) and did think some of the characters seemed rather ill formed - as if the writers (tv) had put 2/3 effort into creating them and assumed the viewer would fill in the rest. On this assumption I have ordered the book as I can’t help but think there must be more to some of the characters.

Anyway, did I mention I have the feels for Mathew Goode?

sparklelike · 24/10/2018 14:04

on the whole, the writer writes a lot more about the alchemical texts and describes those beautifully. When I read Diana she seems a classic academic type, Matthew is a better drawn character in general.

I'm feeling you on matthew goode :) 'it is in france' swoon.

VforVienetta · 24/10/2018 14:30

Soooo with you on Mr Goode.... Rather enjoying the fact that he's not a young gym bunny, obvs he's delicious, but also a 'proper' grown up.

Huntlybyelection · 25/10/2018 22:08

Catching up on the thread. I'm watching the series at the same time as reading the first book.

All I have to say is I am incredibly glad they didn't include the ridiculous yoga storyline in the tv series.

Unobtainable · 26/10/2018 08:03

Oo - tell those of us who haven’t read the books about the yoga storyline *

Agreed Vforvienetta - so refreshing to see a man like Matthew in a world full of buff grinning ‘lads.’

ShinyElena · 26/10/2018 09:42

I would happily watch Matthew Goode dreamily stretching Blush

Spolier for the book

The yoga classes take place in Matthew's country estate where all creatures are welcome. He takes the highly-strung Diana there to find some peace. It is an unusual date.

Huntlybyelection · 26/10/2018 09:54

That's pretty much the yoga storyline! It just seemed totally incongruous. And not what i would think Matthew would do. He didn't strike me as the type of manpire who would put on slouchy yoga pants and do a few stretches while giving Diana the glad eye.

Then I kept reading and the book got even more bonkers so maybe it should have been the first sign of that for me!

sparklelike · 26/10/2018 10:25

yes, totally ridiculous. Yoga, it's not for wimps! I'm not sure I like the idea of my tough guys in lycra full stop really. I suppose it is modern!

ShinyElena · 26/10/2018 11:12

But then you would not think Matthew would resist sex for so long either. It is not the most plausible book. Grin

TatterdemalionAspie · 26/10/2018 15:44

Having not read the books, I was looking forward to a bit of vampire sex after the touchy-hands-gazey-eyes reunion where he says he loves her and they seem to be mated/married. Was rather disappointed with the 'bundling', frankly. Grin

ShinyElena · 26/10/2018 16:45

If they do a season 2, there will be plenty of sex.

TatterdemalionAspie · 26/10/2018 17:22

In the interview I linked to above, I love when the interviewer asked them what attracted them to the roles, and Matthew Goode, quick as a flash, answers "the word trilogy..." Grin

So I think there'll be a second series!

VforVienetta · 26/10/2018 17:41

I loved that Aspie! You could almost see the pound signs.
Teresa is pregnant now, so filming due to start in July if they get the go-ahead for season 2.

ShinyElena · 26/10/2018 18:33

Aspie I have just watched it. Thank you for posting it.

CalmConfident · 26/10/2018 22:25

No comments on tonight’s episode ????

AdventuringThroughLife · 26/10/2018 22:31

Just wondering if I could trade my husband in for a vampire...

CalmConfident · 26/10/2018 22:40

Good plan ! Liking Matthews moves :)

holycityzoo · 26/10/2018 22:40

I think sarah and ems house is actually my dream house. I could move in and not change a thing!

Cataline · 26/10/2018 22:42

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone mutter 'fuck' in quite as fabulous a way as Matthew did in tonight's episode...

madmum5811 · 26/10/2018 22:50

Is he as a vampire not able to make love in the ordinary way or are they practicing birth control.

CalmConfident · 26/10/2018 22:51

I think dtd is the breaking of the Covenant inter species rules, fooling around is ok

CalmConfident · 26/10/2018 22:52

Sure someone more informed will clarify !

Unobtainable · 26/10/2018 23:03

Cataline I know, he said it in such a commanding way too.

Yes, the house is beautiful and lived in and both dark and cosy but light at the same time iykwim.

Oh my life! The bedroom scene where he pulled her down the bed and moved slowly down her body. I did an involuntary clench of excitement and got a proper belly flip!

I’m dying to find out what Sophie does as well.

The preview of next week’s episode contained a bit of a shocker didnt it!

TheFirstOHN · 26/10/2018 23:05

Matthew is cautious about PIV sex with Diana for valid reasons which will be clarified later.

And this way Matthew gets to perform another demonstration of his own flavour of magic.
