I enjoyed the first series (which is currently on iplayer) - some terrific performances, esp from Lesley Manville, Dorothy Atkinson and Lisa McGrillis. For any other fans, Series 2 starts 20 FebSmile

It’s back sometime next year. They start filming the third series in September.

Raglansleeve · 28/03/2018 10:01

I wish Cathy had left the declaration until Jason and Kelly had moved out though, I can see Jason putting a spanner in the works and refusing to move!

Loonoon · 28/03/2018 10:08

We are on holiday and I couldn't wait until I got home so we had to watch this last episode 'live'. Despite the fact that the tv insisted on doing the audio description for the blind, it was a total joy from beginning to end. I loved Pauline looking at Derek in a new light when she found out about his bad boy past. I'm looking forward to watching it all over again when we get home.

snozzlemaid · 28/03/2018 10:09

I thought it was quite sad when the grandparents were sat all alone in the lounge and every one was coming in and out the house and not paying them any attention.
Reg looked sad like they'd been forgotten about and weren't important.
One of those brilliant bits this show does with no dialogue but it says so much.

leccybill · 28/03/2018 10:12

Just watched the final episode. Pure lovely, I didn't want it to end.
'Michael's got wood' was funny and how Pauline said 'sliced?' through gritted teeth when talking about the bread.

MrsJamin · 28/03/2018 10:20

Utterly loved the episode last night. Some thoughts

  1. did Jason see that his mum and Michael were holding hands?
  2. I can't explain Kelly not eating the pork unless she is pregnant. That'd be a good development next series as that will make Cathy a grandma
  3. glad it wasn't just me that thought Cathy's MIL had carked it while reg was dancing to Girls just wanna have fun!
FellOutOfBed2wice · 28/03/2018 10:30

To the poster who’s husband thinks Michael has had a change of heart: no way! He’s loved her for 40 years and he had to go into the bathroom to cry!! There’s no way that they can continue to be kept apart. I won’t believe it!

The80sweregreat · 28/03/2018 10:56

I just thought Micheal looked a bit shell shocked really, he is planning on living in spain for a few days a week ( that wont be that easy after Brexit!) and maybe just a bit taken aback? dont know, have to see how it pans out.

RobinsEggBlue · 28/03/2018 11:15

I absolutely love this programme. Last night’s episode was so perfect- Cathy’s speech!! Little bit in love with Michael.

ToffeeUp · 28/03/2018 11:23

Regarding the pork dinner, I think it just wasn't very nice, just like last weeks beef stew. Kelly didn't want to eat it and Reg and Maureen were dropping hints about Cathy getting a new hobby, a cooking course and arguing about it being lamb of beef Smile

The80sweregreat · 28/03/2018 11:30

Cathy's cooking isnt up to much - no wonder they all tuck into the sweets and crisps. Reg is funny - he is rough and ready but clearly still loves his wife. I liked the play list he was flicking through.

If you like this, check out Grandma's house with Simon Amstall - similar set up in a house and with quirky characters. It is amusing.

I really cant see Jason and Kelly going it alone somehow.

Spookle · 28/03/2018 12:11

Absolutely brilliant!

I started with the tears when I thought Maureen had died while Reg was dancing (even though that made me laugh). Sobbed when she moved and then it was Niagara Falls straight through to the end.

I feel bereft now and can't wait for S3 next year. Wonderful, wonderful show.

SimonBridges · 28/03/2018 12:37

I thought she had died too.
I think he did as well.

I read it that him listening to Girls Just Want To Have Fun reminded him of when they were a young couple and she was a girl having fun.

Bowednotbroken · 28/03/2018 13:00

Absolutely loved it - great end to the series. I was a bit worried it had lost its way a little - I felt an episode or two were verging on being a bit cruel, but that was lovely! Thanks to the pp who posted links to articles, really interesting to read.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 28/03/2018 13:41

The80sweregreat yes to Grandma’s House! One of favourite comedies of the past 10 years and with some great family dynamics (also set in a similar area to Mum... they’re in Ilford and Mum and Co are in Walthamstow).

And it’s all on YouTube and someone’s made a playlist of all the episodes too so you can watch it straight through www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcom3w-9VxbPVSJLuJ-QsQhf6WYfwXguK

The80sweregreat · 28/03/2018 13:45

Fell, it is the same area! in Grandmas house one episode they were talking about Fencepiece lane and how to get there. Simon is funny too, very natural.

well, do we think that Jason and Kelly will ever move out? is she pregnant? how will Michael get on back and forth to spain?
lets hope we get some answers in series 3.

southeastdweller · 28/03/2018 13:49

Mum is set in Chingford, I’m sure.

Steala · 28/03/2018 14:16

I'm going to miss this so much. Reg is one of my favourite characters. I loved when he was enjoying the song, looked over at Maureen to share the moment and then the sheer grief at the recognition that she isn't able to be the person she once was, that even though he's not alone, sometimes he is. So much love, so well-acted.

happystory · 28/03/2018 14:20

Loved Pauline's list of what's good taste! Laughed out loud when she finished with ' ... and Kent!'

dontcallmelen · 28/03/2018 15:45

I am bereft now that this series is over, sublime acting & so very funny as well as tugging at the heart, dialogue & the silences between the characters is so beautiful, the science when Reg cry’s on the sofa remembering Dave is heartbreaking.
I’m wondering if Jason will accept Cathy moving on, is Kelly pregnant.
Yy Pauline & her list of good taste.

dontcallmelen · 28/03/2018 15:46

Scene not science😳

The80sweregreat · 28/03/2018 15:48

That bit with Reg remembering his son was sublime.

Horsemad · 28/03/2018 17:55

Yes, it was achingly painful; it just conveyed the sense of loss so accurately.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 28/03/2018 18:12

I was late to this but absolutely loved it. Pauline is just like one of my relatives. Comes from a very humble background but the airs and graces oh my! It’s just as hilarious in real life. Deeply insecure poor thing, but oh so funny Grin

The80sweregreat · 28/03/2018 18:32

Did anyone notice the pic of Cathy and kelly in a heart shape on the wall? Was very kelly!
