I loved the first season, so really looking forward to this, especially seeing Uhtred again -v swashbuckling. I never watched GoT so I have nothing to compare it to. (GoT fans seem not to like this so much.) I do like it's historical basis.

Pleased to hear Skorpa's teeth were a downside Bore!

Haha Bagel! I like your thinking!

Last night's episode was phenomenal. Superb acting, especially from David Dawson as Alfred. Action, tenderness, horror, even comedy. All there.

And, of course, more washing in the lake! Wink

I love it so much, it's bordering on obsession! I really hope they make Series 3.

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/04/2017 07:42

Me too - ifs had to start watching Versailles to fill the evenings til next week but it's nowhere near as good

BagelGoesWalking · 21/04/2017 09:20

Jedward, Son of Jedward

I freely admit I'm obsessed, it just very, very good! I was seriously on the edge of my seat yesterday during the raid on the camp at the end.

Fiderer · 21/04/2017 09:36

That was v tense, everyone knew it was a trap of some sort but attacking the camp was a shock. Do not want anything bad to happen to Thyra or Aethelflaed Angry

They haven't had such a camp before, have they? Was always just the men (& Hild) , I was surprised Beocca took Thyra. Plot move I suppose.

Uhtred is such a clot. When Alfred asked why he'd been called the king of Marcia, he should have said it was just to manipulate Alfred. Instead he said nothing & so confirmed that he, Uhtred, has his eye on that. Uhtred may be v good as a warrior but aside from that he has no political strategic skills.

Shall miss his face matted hair, his voice - "Lord"

As I said ^^ Black Sails is a good watch to tide you over (pun not intended Grin ) I might re-watch just to hear Toby Stephen's voice.

BagelGoesWalking · 21/04/2017 10:19

"Shall miss" Shit, was that the last episode in Series 2? Noooooo

Fiderer · 21/04/2017 10:21

Yep. Last episode.

Fiderer · 21/04/2017 10:25

No, I'm wrong. There are 8 episodes, that was no 6.

Sorry to scare you Grin

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/04/2017 10:31

I'm going to have to check out Black Sails!

reallysayingsomething · 21/04/2017 17:58

The best programme on TV at the moment. The ending was haunting. Women running away from attackers. The panic and fear captured perfectly. I was thinking of how we learn nothing and that fear and panic of invaders and war is still in recent times.

on a lighter note I love the comedy moments between Ethelwold (its a trap so walk right into it) and I love FINAN. Grin

AGnu · 24/04/2017 00:36

Just watched the last episode. When it finished I felt a bit light-headed & only then did I realise I'd been holding my breath for most of the last scene! I hadn't realised there were books. I might have to get them delivered ASAP - not sure I can wait to find out what happens!

NoLotteryWinYet · 24/04/2017 09:40

Yes this series has been even better than the first, compare this to Versailles or Vikings, the story is a lot more interesting.

Dillite2 · 26/04/2017 08:09

I loved the last episode. It was very gripping. And I just knew that the little shithead king wannabe would be a little shit stirrer. I hope he dies soon painfully. And Uhtred could do with some brains.

BagelGoesWalking · 27/04/2017 18:43

Not long to go!

How many of you watch each episode twice? I do Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/04/2017 19:00

Me too!

NoLotteryWinYet · 27/04/2017 21:08

Just settled down to watch!

tedmundo · 27/04/2017 22:00

Oh my word - the romance with Erik & aethelflaed! That was riverting. Such good tv.

NoLotteryWinYet · 27/04/2017 22:04

I have a feeling it is isnt going to end well...

raisedbyguineapigs · 27/04/2017 22:09

My DH has read all the books and spoilerised the romance Angry But now I want him to tell me what happens Grin Agree best thing on telly at the moment

Dillite2 · 27/04/2017 22:23

This was such a wonderful episode. I hope that Eric and Applefed get to run away to a faraway land and live happily ever after. Eric looked over his brother's desire for conquering. And how amazing was it when that little shitstain got punched by that giant? I actually cheered when it happened.

Who wants to bet that next week Applefed will find out that getting ridden (the right way) by a viking gets one pregnant?

sakura06 · 27/04/2017 22:32

Another amazing episode! Loved the Erik and Aethelflaed romance, but sadly suspect it is doomed. Thyra and Beocca's reunion was beautiful too! I don't want this series to end!

Noitsnotteatimeyet · 27/04/2017 22:56

Aetheltwat getting his comeuppance was supremely satisfying.,,

This is the best thing on TV at the moment - so many good characters, tightly plotted, some cracking lines and genuine emotion - I don't want this series to end

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/04/2017 23:59

Oh, this just gets better and better!

I do hope the Beeb will make further series.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/04/2017 00:23

Guardian recap

The comments are worth reading too - not least for the suggestion that the Mercians should all be speaking in Brummie accents Grin

BagelGoesWalking · 28/04/2017 01:08

OMG Just watched. Awww, sweet Erik, that was so nicely done. ❤️ Knew she would prefer him over pig's arse Aethelred. Wish they'd given his sneaky sidekick a black eye too! Loved it when he had to go back into the hall naked and Finan was cracking up 😁

And what is Odda plotting, eh? To overthrow Alfred and put Aethelwold on the throne. Hasn't he learnt that treason usually ends in a quick death?

The programme makers really manage to keep the tension during the episode. Great, great show.

Fiderer · 28/04/2017 09:01

That was a great episode. Apart from all the Aethelflaed & Erik story, I loved Finan & Man With Moustache playing the game. "What's it called?" "Stones" Grin

And Fr Beocca. I was holding my breath. Interesting to have a quieter episode where the pace is slower if not less tense & you see the characters & not just the fighting.

Loved Arsehead getting thumped & waking up in a sty.

I post here & read The Guardian's recaps - but it does seem to be underrated.
