I loved the first season, so really looking forward to this, especially seeing Uhtred again -v swashbuckling. I never watched GoT so I have nothing to compare it to. (GoT fans seem not to like this so much.) I do like it's historical basis.

I think Uthred's accent comes from the fact that Alexander Dreymon was born in Germany, raised in France, Switzerland

I live in Germany, not far from the French/Swiss border. No one I've met sounds like him. Or looks like him. Am v disappointed Wink

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 08/04/2017 11:16

Finan has just come into it in the last couple of episodes, so he has yet to make a powerful mark. He's looking promising though...

uthredswife · 08/04/2017 11:36

That's brill. I love Finan, he's the perfect sidekick to Uthred. I know people here haven't read the books so I don't want to put any spoilers but I love the relationship between the two men and I love Finans sense of humour

BagelGoesWalking · 17/04/2017 23:35

Uhtred (please grow your hair long again!)
Ragnar
Leofric
Even Erik and Siegfried

All fucking hot, the more dirty, battle worn and villainous the better! God, I love this, have watched S1 twice now and might watch S2 again Grin Love the fact that it's based on actual historical facts, love Arthur's Machiavellian mind and strategies.

One thing annoys me though - why the hell don't BBC promote this better? I'd totally missed S1 on the BBC, luckily came across it on Netflix. They under promoted Orphan Black (another BBC America prog) which was also fantastic, I don't know why they don't market them better. The Last Kingdom could have been a blockbuster and it's such a shame. It better bloody get recommissioned for S3!

BagelGoesWalking · 17/04/2017 23:36

Forgot Finan Grin I'd hump him too (sorry, I obviously really need a good shag!)

BagelGoesWalking · 17/04/2017 23:39

Forgot something else - take this to bed with you tonight (looks good cleaned up too)

i'm a bit underwhelmed with Uhtred's credulity with the whole man rises from dead and prophecies' bollocks - i hope he's just going along with it because that was the way Kings were touched by the hand of God in those days...surely it was obvious someone was merely buried alive under there?

zukiecat · 18/04/2017 10:20

Bagel

I had a bit of a thing for Skorpa too!

He got killed far too early

NoLotteryWinYet · 18/04/2017 10:23

i agree generally though - this is as good as Vikings, should be as successful, and plenty of eye candy to drool over!

BagelGoesWalking · 18/04/2017 11:32

Diderot keep looking! And let us know when you find some Wink

BagelGoesWalking · 18/04/2017 11:33

FFS that was meant to be Fiderer not Diderot (who the heck is Diderot?)

Dillite2 · 18/04/2017 12:13

Personally I think that this show is much better than Vikings. I have tried watching Vikings but just could not get into it.

I also would like to think that Uhtred os only pretending to have believed that dead man talking thing. Surely even he can't be stupid enough to think that's true?

NeonGod73 · 18/04/2017 12:18

Arseling yeah!

Everybody swoons over Uthred but he leaves me stone cold. I have the hots for King Alfred. Am I alone with this?

Wormulonian · 18/04/2017 12:44

Loving this series. Because it is based on books the storytelling is really tight and the action rolls along very nicely. King Alfred is fantastic. It is shaping up really well. I loved Vikings especially season 2 and 3 but it has started to loose the plot a a lot with random out of character things happening and the plot unwritten.

NoLotteryWinYet · 18/04/2017 12:45

true i'm a couple of seasons behind on Vikings, this is more interesting from a historical perspective and the character of Alfred being portrayed here is fascinating.

Dillite2 · 18/04/2017 15:44

King Alfred looks like a serial killer, so I do not like him. His wife and her stupid hair grt on my goat even more than him though. Why can't everyone have fantastic hair like the Danes?

BagelGoesWalking · 18/04/2017 15:46

Neon Yes, all alone Grin
His intelligence is somewhat alluring, I can see that. I'm afraid that, watching this series, my mind's been going to a much baser level of attraction!

NoLotteryWinYet · 18/04/2017 16:04

i agree with bagel, Alfred is attractive mostly for his brain but the sheer appeal of the Danes...

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/04/2017 19:33

Love the series.

Love the Danes

Loved Leofric and Skorpa.

Uthred, however, does nothing for me. I agree with those who think the Ragnar actor would have been better.

Fiderer · 19/04/2017 19:53

I enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Vikings but then it all got a bit samey.

Am enjoying this more. Never thought a series full of fighting, blood spilling, torture, dirty muddy men rampaging would have any appeal for me. When's it on next? Wink

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/04/2017 19:55

Tomorrow Fiderer !

Fiderer · 19/04/2017 19:58

Liked the Guardian's recap referring to Alfred's wife as Lady Macbeth of Wessex.

Why does she look younger than her daughter? The stupid plaits make it worse. If I ever got a dagger I'd slice them off. With a sword I could take her head off too.

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/04/2017 20:04

Oh, I love the Guardian recaps. I think Lady Macbeth is brilliantly acted, a calculating serpent who obviously heeded the adage (I forget from where) to keep her face smooth and pleasant at all times Grin

sakura06 · 19/04/2017 22:43

I must admit I'm shocked by all the love for Skorpa as I found him utterly terrifying!! The bloodied teeth! Gah!

Uhtred or Ragnar for me!

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/04/2017 00:20

Well, not the teeth Sakura

But he had a certain je ne sais quoi Grin
