I loved the first season, so really looking forward to this, especially seeing Uhtred again -v swashbuckling. I never watched GoT so I have nothing to compare it to. (GoT fans seem not to like this so much.) I do like it's historical basis.

The commenters on the Guardian are saying that the best way to ensure further series is to rewatch on Netflix, to boost the ratings.

I'd been thinking of getting a Netflix account, so I might just do that and watch it all again from Series 1.

I want Aethelfled and Erik to flee to Orkney/Iceland/Greenland - somewhere far, far away, anyway - with Uthred's help, natch.

However, I fear history is against them (although Cornwell does take considerable liberties with history)

BagelGoesWalking · 28/04/2017 15:18

Love the Guardian review and the comments are often very funny.
The Finan/Clappa (I think he's called) Stones game was fun.

I'm seriously considering writing or emailing the BBC to register my love for TLK - might help to get S3, although I imagine any decisions have already been made. It damn well better come back for a third series!

fussychica · 29/04/2017 15:15

Just read the Guardian thread. 4 pages just on last night's episode. Very enjoyable.

Love this programme, great cast, great acting. Don't want it to end. 3rd series please.

NoLotteryWinYet · 01/05/2017 11:23

I see my Sainsbury's has prominently displayed the book, updated with an Uhtred photo by the check out so I'm thinking it's been noted as a hit!

mummydarkling · 01/05/2017 22:45

I was loving the Aethelflad/Erik romance. Stockholm syndrome with a Viking! Sigh.....

MinesaPinot · 02/05/2017 13:36

I have to say that if anything happens to Erik in this week's final episode other than him running off happily with Aetheflad I will cry and drink lots of wine.

That is all.

NoLotteryWinYet · 02/05/2017 13:46

i think we've got to prepare ourselves that it's unlikely to end well - Alfred won't like it, Erik's brother will feel betrayed, The Mercian King will demand revenge...best stock up on the consoling wine!

MinesaPinot · 02/05/2017 14:04

Lottery I know, that's what I'm thinking, sadly.....sob...

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/05/2017 17:56

I binge-watched all of series 1 over the BH weekend. Was even better second time around.

I'm also halfway through the first book - lots and lots that was not included in TV adaptation (can understand why they needed to move smartly on from Child Uhtred to Grown-up Uhtred for TV)

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 02/05/2017 19:28

Nobody needed to miss out on more episodes of Grown-Up Uthred than they had to Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/05/2017 19:36
Grin
BagelGoesWalking · 02/05/2017 21:00

Have just finished the 3rd book. Waiting for 4 & 5 to arrive at my library (reserved).

Have been thinking far to much about Erik and Æthelflaed this week, it's going to be awful, isn't it Sad No way that can end well... however much we want it to.

Bore you got Netflix then?! I really enjoyed watching a 2nd time. Noticed little nuances in looks and words that I hadn't given weight to while watching the first time. They actually pack a lot into each episode.

Hmmm, should I watch last week's episode again before the finale on Thursday?

Oblomov17 · 02/05/2017 21:35

Loved the latest episode. Loved her relationship with Erik. Fear, as Uhtred said though, that this simply can't continue.
Can't wait to see what happens.

JustMyLuck84 · 02/05/2017 21:47

I have loved both series and am starting on the books.

Uhtred! 😍 YES! YES! YES!

My husband just thinks I have a keen interest in Viking history. 😂😂😂

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/05/2017 22:58

Bagel no - Amazon Prime. I'd forgotten I had it Grin

I agree about the nuances missed on first viewing. Some v witty lines too.

I'm loving Book One and have the next 2 all ready to go. I'll be rewatching all of S2 before Sunday too.

Just have to fit all the viewing / reading around work somehow Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/05/2017 22:59

Thursday, not Sunday.

MinesaPinot · 03/05/2017 10:48

Glad it's not just me thinking too much about Erik and Aethelfled (but mainly Erik Wink this week). DH also has said that it will not end well, and says he will have consoling wine and tissues ready for me....

Gotta love him sometimes.

BagelGoesWalking · 03/05/2017 17:58

This was on FB today but not official (I guess) but makes me very hopeful!

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/05/2017 18:03

Ooh! Thanks Bagel - that certainly looks v promising!

Oblomov17 · 04/05/2017 08:14

I hope you all don't consider this a spoiler, but on the BBC, it says about a tonight's programme, the finale of S2:

, there is passion, heartbreak and treachery

Treachery? Sounds bad.
Oh no! Someone must die surely? Erik? It can't be the Kings daughter, surely? Will uhtred try and help them escape and it must be uhtred who cradles Erik, as he dies, surely?

Or who else could it be, who dies?

Oh I can't stand it!!

NoLotteryWinYet · 04/05/2017 10:58

ooooh the tension....today is going to be long :) I fear this could be emotionally draining!

Surely they're going to somehow bump off Uhtred's wife? I note that he's been smugly happily married for quite a while now!

Oblomov17 · 04/05/2017 11:05

Oh yes, good thinking. Of course, she's been too happily smug etc, so they must kill her off. But that would mean that they'd killed off 2 of his wives. Might they do that, to spur his hatred on, to do big stuff in S3?

NoLotteryWinYet · 04/05/2017 11:09

that's my guess, sets it up nicely. Perhaps she tries to help Erik and the King's daughter? We shall see. I imagine being married to a warrior is a fairly risky situation to be in!

Chasingsquirrels · 04/05/2017 11:10

Oh I didn't realise this was the last one in the series Sad

Oblomov17 · 04/05/2017 11:11

AND. Uhtred IS actually 'Uhtred of Bebbanburg', so all this supporting Alfred and Wessex nonsense needs to end at some point. He has to get back to Northumbria, to where he is destined to be.
Uhtred is big on 'Destiny'. Wink
