Is anyone watching this? I think im going to end up hooked!

OP posts:
MaynJune · 25/08/2016 09:31

They do look similar but the man in the car is Scottish and the brother is English.

Ireallydontseewhy · 25/08/2016 09:51

Can those who know tell us - if an English family grew up in the Highlands, would the dc usually have at least a trace of a Highlands accent? I couldn't detect one in Rob, Danny and Claire but maybe it was intentionally very subtle. Maybe they went to boarding school in England? (over invested in the detail here, I accept)
Is anyone else thinking we were supposed to draw Conclusions from Adrian Edmonson's reaction at the end?

youngestisapsycho · 25/08/2016 09:55

I wondered how the bodies were found... they were in their flat... did a neighbour just stumble across them? Would the baby not have survived.... Don't know how that works?

eddiemairswife · 25/08/2016 10:16

One thing I noticed was that her dead body was very, very pregnant, but when the two bodies were side by side in the mortuary her stomach was flat.

youngestisapsycho · 25/08/2016 10:41

Would they not remove the baby? I assumed it would have been removed to see if survived??

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 25/08/2016 15:02

ireally I wondered that too about the kids accentsConfused

wigglesrock · 25/08/2016 15:08

I enjoyed it, usually takes me two episodes to get into a show but it was pretty much immediate. Oh and get behind me with all your John Lynch love, I've loved him forever Grin. I don't think the junkie they killed committed the murders. I think he knows something, maybe to do with the sister.

Yes it would be likely that the baby would be removed from its mum. A seperate post mortem could be carried out especially if the pregnancy was advanced. The mum and the baby can be presented seperately for burial. They can be burried together but some families would prefer two seperate coffins. I'm probably not explaining that very well, sorry.

hollyisalovelyname · 25/08/2016 19:27

What did you think of the father's reaction to his daughter saying his son was dead?
Anyone???

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 25/08/2016 19:30

Are we allowed to share theories? I enjoyed this!

Ireallydontseewhy · 25/08/2016 19:31

Yes, that was my question below! So I shall answer you holly. Were we supposed to think that he wasn't surprised, because he was somehow in on it (though had been on a long haul flight, so can't have done it in person)? But that seems extremely unlikely!

Only other possible explanation is that he is in shock.

Clawdy · 25/08/2016 19:44

Or he has cut himself off from them so completely that he doesn't want his new partner to know he is still in touch.

Ireallydontseewhy · 25/08/2016 19:58

Oh yes clawdy, or she doesn't even know they exist! Though hard to believe he could remain so composed...

ThePortlyPinUp · 25/08/2016 19:59

Or that his new partner doesn't know about his previous family.

ThePortlyPinUp · 25/08/2016 19:59

X post!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 25/08/2016 20:26

I'm taking that as a yes then!

I think the druggy was the killer, but he was paid by someone at the house, and was going to collect payment.

I can't decide who. It does look like Ade already knew - surely he wouldn't be able to pokerface to that extent? But now he seems too obvious...

Ireallydontseewhy · 25/08/2016 20:51

Oh anchor that is good. In that case it wouldn't be ade because he lives ?not sure where, but definitely a different postcode!

And it would be one of the permanent residents - so not claire or rob. I have my suspicions......

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 25/08/2016 20:53

Good point IReally. It must be someone at the original postcode.

I eyed them all suspiciously after that theory hit me 😂

Wingedharpy · 25/08/2016 21:22

My theory, based on nothing but my own imagination, was that burglar (who I think knew the couple) didn't kill them but one or other of them wasn't quite dead when he broke in and found them.
The almost expired victim told him who had done the deed - then promptly died.
Burglar wouldn't/couldn't tell police but in a moment of wanting to do the right thing, set off to tell the families "whodunit".
Bereaved families assumed he was the murderer and one of them killed him.
I think it may be about people not being who/what we think they are.
Alternatively, I may be talking rubbish! - this would not be the first time.

Ireallydontseewhy · 25/08/2016 21:27

Also a very good theory winged harpy! Yes, maybe he was too dazed/drugged to think straight and also he couldn't tell the police he was the burglar, so went to the postcode address to tell the families what had happened.

How the police woman selling acid fits in, I am not yet sure. But someone must have put her in touch with the dealer - maybe Danny was a middle man?

NotPennysBoat · 25/08/2016 21:34

Or did the person who killed the druggie, kill him to stop him talking and implicating someone else...? Not sure what that leads me to conclude!
Really enjoyed this, looking forward to the next episode.

Optimist1 · 25/08/2016 21:36

I'm being very thick and don't understand the theory about Ade's postcode. Would anyone be kind enough to spell it out to me in simple terms? Blush

Ireallydontseewhy · 25/08/2016 21:43

Optimist one theory is that Someone hired the burglar to kill Danny and Grace, and the burglar was going to the Highlands address to collect his money from the person who hired him. (The burglar didn't have the full address, just the postcode, scrawled on an envelope.)
That theory means it can't have been Ade who hired the burglar/hit man, because Ade lives somewhere else - I wasn't sure where from the vista we were shown (red double deckers going over a bridge, didn't look like London), but it obv was not the Highlands postcode that burglar headed to.
I also like the theory that the murderer of the burglar wanted to stop him talking!

hollyisalovelyname · 25/08/2016 21:55

Who is Ade Blush?

Ireallydontseewhy · 25/08/2016 22:09

Holly he's Ade Edmonson - he plays the father who gets out of the car at the end after his 'Long Haul Flight'. Not sure what his character's name is!

Wingedharpy · 25/08/2016 22:35

The policewoman selling acid fits in (IMHO) as she appears at first sight to be an upstanding member of society doing a public service job but, we know, she is a drug dealer - albeit in an effort to raise money for a worthy cause.
Burglar/Druggie, fits in as he appears to be a "bad lad" yet here he is, getting himself murdered, trying to do the right thing (ie. telling families who murdered their kids).
Beardy man came across as a strict Presbyterian- Church going type, but here he is, as are they all, conspiring to cover up a murder, possibly because he thinks his son may have done it.
It's about what we become capable of given the right circumstances.
I enjoyed it!
