Did anyone else on this thread start watching Swedish drama 'Thicker than Water' on Thursday on More4? I should really look on Telly Addicts to see if anyone else has started a thread.

MeolsCop · 06/03/2016 18:50

Oh bugger, I knew there was another Scandi drama I wanted to watch! Will download it, thanks RomCom Smile

NewYearSameMe · 06/03/2016 19:03

I can't get over a whole country with a population of only 320,000. That's only slightly higher than Tower Hamlets, which is the borough that I used to live in in London. They only have 8.32 people per square mile. Ireland which is also fairly low density has 168 per square mile, and the UK has 679 per square mile. I know that a lot of Iceland isn't habitable, but still there's hardly anybody there.

It looks like a very big school for such a small town, do you think they have both primary and secondary in the same building?

RomComPhooey · 06/03/2016 19:04

Jury's currently out on that one for me, Meols. Didn't inmediately grab me.

BingoBonkers · 06/03/2016 19:35

Marking place for when I have caught up in watching. Got eps 7&8 to watch.

flightywoman · 06/03/2016 20:46

NewYear it is truly deserted at times. Me and him drove almost all the way round in 2007 - didn't do the Western Fjords, but drove all of the rest of it, and would go for hours and miles without seeing another car, it was amazing.

Even in the middle of summer we were the only people at a couple of the places we stayed.

Same here. Even in the height of summer and on the main ring road, you could easily go 20+ min without seeing another car. We planned a detour to a nature reserve at the mouth of a fjord in one area, but the road (dirt track) to it was so deserted and we started passing abandoned, tumbledown homesteads etc that after a while DH and I lost our bottle and turned back. It was extraordinary beautiful though - austere and rugged. Wonderful. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

RomComPhooey · 06/03/2016 21:49

I'd like to go back and do the Western Fjords. They are supposed to be lovely.

flightywoman · 06/03/2016 21:56

Oh me too RomCom, I'd definitely go again.

Fiderer · 07/03/2016 06:54

The language is fascinating. Good thing it is subtitled & not dubbed or I'd have to be making charts with people's names and little notes to identify them. Half of them sound absolutely nothing like they're written.

Feel v sorry for the young man Hjörtur (thank you IMDB) being jailed for the arson attack.

Hadn't realised Iceland has such a small population, no wonder the TV station seems to be doing a live feed.

Agree that there being 2 episodes a week is "Oh good" and "Oh no" at the same time.

MissWimpyDimple · 07/03/2016 07:53

I watched Thicker Than Water. The whole thing is far more slick than the other Nordic Noir things but I think I'm going to like it. Need something to patch the hole that Andri and co will leave in my life Sad

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/03/2016 18:03

I'm supremely jealous of those that have been to Iceland. It's been on my list for years, I lust after bleak, beautiful, empty places (I'm from the far north of Scotland, it's in the blood I think). DH went to the Faroe Islands a few years ago and it's also on my list.

I'm so excited for Saturday! In preparation, from tomorrow we're going to re-watch 2 episodes an evening and make our conspiracy theories. There might be a whiteboard involved geeks

DH doesn't know it yet, but I'm also embarking on a plan to Grow-My-Own-Andri, so his razor is going to be confiscated and I'm going to feed him up. He never does his jacket up anyway, so I think the process is underway Wink

helzapoppin2 · 07/03/2016 21:06

NoTractors, we need photos when the process is complete of "Grow your own Andri ", it sounds great!

RomComPhooey · 07/03/2016 21:11

My DH is doing a reverse-Andri thing at the mo (intentional). His clothes are hanging off him. Boo!

SmellySourdough · 07/03/2016 21:51

and trausti is the absolute opposite.
a bit like the creep from sleeping with the enemy

BingoBonkers · 08/03/2016 19:56

I'm claiming Thor to be All Mine. He is a bit Darren Day-esque round the eyes.

I am loving this series. Loving.

None of the names even sound like the flipping subtitles. Jonsson sounds like Yohannysonny or something.

Andri reminds me of my dad. Except my dad doesn't have a beard. He's not as tall as OO either. Nor Icelandic. You get the jist.

BingoBonkers · 08/03/2016 19:57

Also isn't there another Scandi prog on at the mo. Begins with O??? Anyone know?

BingoBonkers · 08/03/2016 21:04

OCCUPIED!! It's OCCUPIED. DrGoogle told me.

helzapoppin2 · 08/03/2016 21:46

Trapped! Occupied! I see a trend here!

NewYearSameMe · 08/03/2016 22:11

Names that end in 'n' seem to be pronounced with a 'nay' sound. It took me ages to hear the name 'Hrafn' in conversation because they were saying 'Raffanay' and I was expecting it to sound more like a sneeze, 'ha-raf-an'. Grin

RomComPhooey · 08/03/2016 22:42

Damn you all! I've found Occupied in our on demand options - ep10 is screening on Sky Arts tomorrow. I'm about 2/3 of the way through ep1 and it is really good. Will post more later as I want to crack on. Phone battery also dying!

RomComPhooey · 08/03/2016 22:45

Loving all the clean lines of the modernist Scandi architecture in this....

SmellySourdough · 08/03/2016 22:57

interior design in icland is interesting. I was expecting cool skandi design and not retro

RomComPhooey · 08/03/2016 23:04

It's more Scandi and clean lines in Reykjavik, but far less so out in the countryside. We stayed in this place and it was stunning - with views to the glacier - but it was not typical. Most of the hotels were much more basic or traditional, often quite dated.

Happyrouter · 09/03/2016 14:42

My husband thinks female cops husband is a wrong in, I don't see how he links.

So thoughts in our house are (I can't manage any of the names so bear with me)

Mayor, fishman, hotel owner all in cahoots with smuggling in to the town. Fish man losing money from fish place so they paid dead decapitated man to burn it down, not knowing the lovers would be in there then made dead man to leave town. Dead man finds he's dying and comes back so mayor kills him as can't risk him shouting mouth off and gets bloke who jumped out of helicopter to help him dispose of body. Dead woman's dad discovers mayor involved in fire and exacts revenge by also burning him alive.

Husband thinks dodgy weed smoking husband also relevant but I thinks he's a red herring.
