Romcom re the extra insulation, Olafur Olafsson was in a film called The Deep - a true story in which he played a fisherman who survived 6 hours in icy water off the coast of Iceland. He survived the freezing water due to his body fat acting as insulation but he also survived a very dangerous coastline when he reached shore. Amazing story and the film is supposed to be really good - OO was highly acclaimed for it.

Johanna is Andri's wife's niece. She's the daughter of his wife's other sister, the darker-haired woman with the fringe. They had words about marriage while they were washing up in the kitchen.

Hjortur is incredibly lovely, if a little young for my usual tastes. Yes, he is reminiscent of a younger Aaron Paul.

As for whatever's going on with the plot I have no clue! It's beginning to get very gripping though, isn't it?

I'm not very good with faces (massive understatement), can I just confirm that the mayors wife, the woman who shagged the younger school janitor and the woman who was comforting Sigurdur are all one woman (Kolbrun)? If so, what is her relationship to Sigurdur?

I'm really enjoying this, although there are an awful lot of weathered middle-aged men that I'm getting confused over (facial recognition problems again). I'm fascinated by the clothing, they all keep popping outside with just their indoor clothes on. I somehow imagined that they would have high-tech outdoor clothing that they would put on before putting their noses out the door, but they remind me of people here in Ireland who dress as though rain is the last thing they expect to happen.

Sigurdur the harbourmaster's wife is the teacher and she shagged the young guy (who was also trying it on with Johanna in the shower at the pool party). I don't know her name though.
