I have finally figured out what programme the sidekick in Torchwood (had to use turn-on-spray to get the girl and boy in first episode) was in.

He was absolute brilliant and was my favourite character in it.

'Bleak House' - Guppy.

Have to use matchsticks to stay up till 10.00 p.m. Jack is not as charasmatic as Christopher but hey ho ....its early days.

Jack and Ianto have already have sort of a snog haven't they? Didn't Jack "revive" Ianto (with tongues - hmmm!!) at the same time Gwen and Owen were kissing in the cyberwoman episode?

Polgara2 · 22/11/2006 23:24

Have just watched repeat tonight, always manage to miss something - what did that guy whisper to Gwen at the end that horrified her? TIA!

AitchTwoOh · 22/11/2006 23:25

it made me happy.

or words to that effect.

mrsflowerpot · 22/11/2006 23:25

He said 'because it made me happy' (about why he had killed all those people).

You've all missed something. Jack predates WW1: in the 'faeries' episode, remember, he talked about being in Lahore in 1909.

lilibet · 23/11/2006 09:17

Yes, but in episode one when he told Gwen that he couldn't die he said that it was something to do with the Dr, who he met in WWII.

So why was he alive in WWI looking exactly as he did in WWII?

I thought he said 'he met a doctor once who could do something about it', or words to that effect. He appears to have travelled in a fairly linear way through time, I'd say. Personally.

Definitely became immortal when Rose went all Black Wolf or whatever it was. Before that he was a Time Agent turned con man from the future. This week though he mentioned he used to torture people so I guess more will be revealed about his past.

Overrunnerbean · 23/11/2006 09:50

Just not sure about Torcwood, started off really liking it, but was so excited about it, maybe I was just going to like it whatever? Some good bits, but the unit is just so amaterish, don't you think? Surely they can't really be all that stands between us and alien invasion?

BoingBoing · 23/11/2006 10:47

I'm with you OverRB, very amateur. I really wanted to like it, but it's just not doing it for me. And all the sex and swearing feels like it's just been tacked on for effect, to what would otherwise be a pre-watershed programme. And those feet in the fridge?! I make more of a mess when I'm making beef stew FFS. What on earth the normally brilliant Owen Teale thought he was doing there is beyond me too!

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2006 11:01

yeah, i'm not in love with it either. but do think that gwen is very good. not convinced by the rest of them. ALTHOUGH i did like Suzie, she was a good character. but they killed her off. (or did they? mwah-ha-haaaaaah...)

I am a bit disappointed too. On a basic level the stories just don't work very well - there are too many loose ends. For example, from this week, if the cannabalism on an enormous scale happened regularly (they said every 10 years), then why had no one twigged before...What was the explanation for it all (I don't think there was one because the writer couldn't think of one!), how had the escapee got away (was he a villager or someone they'd abducted)...And what did it have to do with aliens?! I am also unconvinced by rampant sex of Owen and Gwen - does anyone think he's remotely attractive?

JackieNo · 23/11/2006 14:00

I didn't think he was attractive until that scene by the tree....
Know what you mean about loose ends, though. Doesn't stop me enjoying it.

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2006 17:12

what happened at the tree? i must have missed that.

suburbanjellybrain · 23/11/2006 17:27

I love Torchwood - its high camp and entertaining and although the dialogue is winceworthy and Capn. Jack is rubbish (he acts like the baddy in a panto half the time then is a very unconvincing heartthrob/ superhero) I find myself tuning in each week eagerly. I quite like the fact that it seems very amatuerish in comparison to slick US dramas and the 'sex' scenes are so unsexy. And last nights episode was actually scary until they were captured - very 70's horror.

LemonTart · 23/11/2006 17:38

"OOoooh, I?m SOooo ?avin you tonight!!" (woman in the pub with Gwen?s new fancyman testing out that "fancy me rotten" alien spray thingie in earlier episode) complete iwth Cardiff accent. Priceless. I love it. Pure camp magic.

If you can?t see beyond the dodgy plotlines and obvious gaping holes in the realism then it isn?t for you. You need to see beyond all that and just love it for it?s own brand of humour and sheer campness. I really really hope it runs on for a few seasons and that enough people "get it" for it to stay longer.

nikkie · 23/11/2006 20:08

The amauteur factor-the major torchwood unithas just been destroyed, even if Cardiff was a secondary one surely some of the staff would have fought the cybermen?

Also as a time agent Jack would have travelled in time (then he fell out with them and became a con man , then met the Dr)

suburbanjellybrain · 23/11/2006 20:15

some of the staff did fight the Cybermen in London - Ianto Jones' girlfriend was turned into a cyberman and he bought her and the cyber technology back to Cardiff to try and save her!

As for the time travel issue - there is no point going there no time travel story stands up to much examination - itis not a documentary you have to sit back relax and suspend disbelief - if you can't then turn over

MrsDoolittle · 24/11/2006 12:00

Don't ask too many questions and you'll love it.

I really don't care when or how Jack travelled through time. I am disappointed about Gwen and Owen though because I don't think he is very sexy.
But I do think Jack is sexy, even though he's out and out gay.
I love the accents.
I love it's Difference.
