I have finally figured out what programme the sidekick in Torchwood (had to use turn-on-spray to get the girl and boy in first episode) was in.

He was absolute brilliant and was my favourite character in it.

'Bleak House' - Guppy.

Have to use matchsticks to stay up till 10.00 p.m. Jack is not as charasmatic as Christopher but hey ho ....its early days.

She ripped the heart out of the soldier, so far as it seemed to be explained at all, as the best way of killing him with her bare hands, but then she talked about the others (and there appeared to have been a lot of others) as "needing something to eat" - so why just human hearts? Maybe there was more of an explanation in there originally that got lost on the cutting room floor.

lemonaid · 27/11/2006 10:31

No, he lives forever because the Rose-TARDIS hybrid at the end of DW series 1 brought him back to life (at least, that's what he more-or-less said in the first episode of Torchwood). I don't think the nanobots come into it (I don't think they did anything to the living and uninjured people, let alone hung around permanently [otherwise all those people around during the Blitz in that area would be living forever, which someone would have noticed by now].

Overrunnerbean · 27/11/2006 10:43

Don't see the contradiction about the hearts, she had to kill him, so why not rip his heart out if that is what she likes to eat? Or could be that she just developed a taste for them.
Whatabout the theory, that she connects with or uses people over the ages and when she gets tired of them, gets a kick out of killing them that way, plus probably killed some along the way just because there would have been times when she might have killed for self preservation.
Agree that it is likely that there is a mutiny growing over the way Jack dispatches loved ones I thought it was a cool/horrible thought of her racing towards the sun and certain death

lemonaid · 27/11/2006 10:50

Oh no, wasn't an actual contradiction, just a gap where they didn't bother to come up with any plot. Your theory about connecting with people and then getting a kick out of killing them that way when she gets tired of them, now -- that's the sort of thing they could have put in (would only have taken a few lines here and there). And it would have created more of a sense of genuine menace over Tosh.

Overrunnerbean · 27/11/2006 10:51

See what you mean lemonaid, all their plots have holes that you could drive a bus through don't they

foxinsocks · 27/11/2006 10:53

I was sort of hoping she would be eaten alive at one point. Thought Mary was brill and far more interesting than any of that lot.

Katherine · 27/11/2006 13:08

Agree was quite frustrated last night. Was just thinking how the "You are an invasion race" and " You are not interested in the lives of aliens" or whatever it was was quite a good line and then they switched to the ripping out of hearts which was unecessary and not really explained. Was good though the way Jack reinfoced all this with sending her to the sun etc but also a bit sad. Lovely humour in this episode though. And I'm glad someone else spotted Tosh getting her lines mixed up!

Overrunnerbean · 27/11/2006 16:00

I thought Mary was really good as well, very femme fatale

FIMBO · 27/11/2006 16:10

I am (& dh) the only person (people) on the planet not to realise Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who - Doh

Think last nights was aimed at the men! Some of the lads in my class at work were really into it this am!

PortAndLemonaid · 03/12/2006 22:55

Can I be hopelessly sheltered and ask what the kinky things are that can be done with a stopwatch (one very basic and obvious one occurs to me, but other than that...)

WeFrizyouamerrychristmas · 03/12/2006 22:57

Oh bugger I've just missed this havent I? doh!

JackieNoHoHo · 03/12/2006 22:58

I was wondering that too, portandlemonaid. DH couldn't guess either.

And did anyone else think when Susie had her first drink of coffee 'So why isn't it dribbling out of the hole in her chin?' (obviously it was all starting to heal up, we found out later, but at the time, that was all I could think).

Pixel · 03/12/2006 23:20

When Jack had to phone the police to get the poetry book, they were all still working through the night trying to solve the murder cases. Jack didn't bother to tell them that he had the killer locked up in his cellar!

sahmtotwo · 03/12/2006 23:35

Another question to ask is why did they call the police for the book of poems? Why not ring one of the other Torchwoos agencies? Or Unit?

As to the stopwatch.....the mind bogles....Didn't think Ianto swung that way....but hey! what ever floats your boat lol

Pixel · 04/12/2006 00:08

If anyone is interested.. ahem, I mean your kids obviously, there is an advent calender on the BBC Doctor Who website which is quite good fun.

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 04/12/2006 10:41

if UNIT is anything like the good old days there would only be about three staff on......they'd have to wait till the Brig was back from Geneva to borrow his library card to get the book out and hope that Benton hadn't taken the jeep to go out ballroom dancing with his sister! As an aside, my claim to fame is that i have a UNIt soldier named after me that got killed in DWM! sad i know!

Katherine · 04/12/2006 12:52

What on earth was that soppy music and soft focus in aid of. I mean please?

And did Susie really set up all of this before she killed herself just so she could come back and finish off her dad! Couldn't she just have done that before she shot herself! I never quite understood that. I was like she was being built up into this superforce about to reek havoc and then all she did was pull his tube out and leg it for the ferry.

Liked the line about the gloves coming in pairs though. I guess she will be back again later.

JackieNoHoHo · 04/12/2006 12:54

Are they still setting up a love triangle with Gwen, Jack and Owen, do you think, hence the soft focus etc? I wondered that too.

PortAndLemonaid · 04/12/2006 13:35

I think the idea was that she'd set it up to make sure that she could come back -- not specifically so that she could finish off her father, that was just a bonus.

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 04/12/2006 16:48

I was a bit confused by the 'stopwatch' reference too! I think that Jack and Ianto must have a bit of a thing going on out of hours.

PortAndLemonaid · 04/12/2006 16:51

They clearly have a thing going on but I'm still no wiser on what they are planning to do with the stopwatch...

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 04/12/2006 16:53

Use your imagination...

PortAndLemonaid · 04/12/2006 17:21

Well, as I said in my first post I can think of one very obvious thing, but they implied there were a whole bunch and there my imagination gives out...

So you'll have to enlighten me (or "us" as JackieNoHoHo and her DH are waiting on tenterhooks too )...
