I can't decide! MG for me veered between really good and really annoying. Loved her clothes tho. Is she in a relationship with the nanny?

I'm so confused......

I should watch tv properly and not crochet.

Nessa and nanny were captured in Palestine, during that time one of them had a baby(nessa?) but nanny is raising him. Child is kidnapped, kidnappers know the "secret". But is that the same secret that Efra and Rachel want to tell the police about?

And, remember I was crocheting so I didn't really watch properly, was it nanny and Efra on the kitchen table??

The Guardian recap makes things clearer, thanks.

I just had a brilliant theory. Fuelled by the 'miscast' of the young Nessa. The nanny is actually Nessa, for some reason there was a swap at some stage. So the conversation about "I can't do this, it's too hard" is about the substitution. But then I remembered that she shagged the brother. So I hope I'm wrong!

Excellent theory but I'm sure Young Nessa had blue eyes and I don't think the nanny does (possibly brown contacts though?).

I'm also confused but think we are supposed to be. Am certain Nessa is Kasim's mother - but maybe that's what they want us to think Confused

I like your theory Pseudo . It does the kitchen shag a bit more grim though!

I'm in the Nessa's baby camp and have thought that right from last week, mostly due to his colouring.

Yes Nessa's did whisper thanks to him. I'm not sure which side he's on though and did she thank him in advance for killing himself?

I'm not convinced that Nessa is not in on the kidnap plot and her distress is actually about it going a bit wrong rather than about " her son" being kidnapped.

Nessa whispered thank you to her bodyguard who was shot last week. I thought he was dead but this week he turned up in hospital.

Yes, they were separate men. Plus there was the MI6

I'm going to have to watch again! Paying more attention this time!

I've sat through two hours of this now and I'm not sure I'm any the wiser really - sometimes they over complicate stuff to the point that I lose interest...... Not brilliant in my book, but OK if I'm not doing anything else. Unlike Happy Valley I wasn't holding my breath and thinking "can't wait for next week". Bit disappointed really, not as good as the hype!

The woman on the phone was the one who had the scene with Janet McTeer –she's a special expert on US relations in Palestine or something. Played by Eve Best.

I don't think she was the one who turned up in the car and shot the taxi driver; she's too high-up to be doing on-the-ground work.

I also think Nessa is the boy's mother and that she may well yet turn out to be in on the kidnap plot.

But is that the same secret that Efra and Rachel want to tell the police about?

I'm confused about this. Do you mean Efra and the nanny? I don't remember Rachel talking about any secret. In fact I can't remember Efra knowing any secret either.

God, I only watched it last night. Memory like a sieve. Confused

Really enjoying it though.

Efra said to the nanny he and Rachel were talking about telling the police what happened to nanny and nessa in Palestine.

Is that the same thing the kidnapper knows about?

OnlyLovers · 11/07/2014 11:50

Ah, OK, that does ring a bell.

In that case no, I think that Efra and Rachel know Nessa and the nanny were kidnapped/ambushed/whatever in Palestine, but not that Kassim is Nessa's –my feeling is that only Nessa and the nanny know that. (what IS the nanny's name and why can't I retain it even though people in the show use it??)

Attica is the nanny's name.

I think I'm going to have to watch it again today. I got very confused by the men in the hospital beds...thought they were one and the same.

The M16 fella who works with the man who is about to be retired asked lots of obvious questions. We couldn't quite work out how he got to work for the secret service whilst also appearing a bit dim about how it all worked.

OnlyLovers · 11/07/2014 13:22

Attica! Of course. Thanks.

Ooh glad to have found this thread as I'm struggling a bit with the plot.

Can anyone help me with the chronology of how episode 1 ended and how episode 2 began? Didn't episode 1 end up with Nessa running barefoot into Hyde Park after the kidnappers? And then episode 2 begins with her shagging the new bodyguard? Is that meant to be the same night/next day? When was the night when she went to sleep in the panic room?

I'm very confused Confused

What did Hugh notice in the two photos of Nessa & Atika with the baby? He seemed to have an " Aha" moment but it was lost on me.

Report
OnlyLovers · 11/07/2014 16:22

I thought he noticed that Nessa looked as if she was handing over the baby in one of them, and looked suspiciously sad to be doing so if it was Attica's baby rather than hers.

Her body language looked sad and deflated to me too.
