I can't decide! MG for me veered between really good and really annoying. Loved her clothes tho. Is she in a relationship with the nanny?

I thought she used the toothbrush so her DNA would be on it.
It was child's toothbrush so the cops would assume it's kassims. So that when they compare his(her) DNA against her DNA they look to be the same (though we know they could tell the difference between mum and child)
This would cover up the fact that kassim is not hers.

I wonder if that last severe where Attica is lying on the floor and we don't see Nessa. Whether Nessa was being raped at that point, maybe by the man who walked in then walked out again. Rachel said she didn't know how Attica went through all that (sounded like she meant pregnancy) after her husband was killed so presumably timeline wise whoever was pregnant was only just so at the time of kidnapping.
I got a bit lost at one point. Were they released from captivity with a baby or was it born after as they were kept for a year.

Sorry if none of that makes sense. It's two in the morning and I can't sleep so I just watched it.

GypsyFloss · 18/07/2014 08:10

Thanks for the blog link again BOFster .

Floundering · 18/07/2014 08:38

Yes maybe Nessa was raped while in captivity (or shortly before? ) by someone high-ranking & therefore Kassim would have become a pawn from birth but by passing him off as Attica's they hid him in plain sight, knowing that his paternity would be used against them?

Do we still think Attica & Nessa were/are a couple? Why did Attica DTD with Efra on the kitchen table-mutual comfort or as a way of keeping him onside?

Questions questions.

I do wonder with the RL developments in the last 24/48 hours the storyline might get a bit too near the truth, I shall scream if the BBC suspend next weeks episode!!!!

frostyfingers · 18/07/2014 08:50

I'll be away next week so will miss it and really don't think it'll make any difference to my comprehension of the "plot". It's just all a little too tricksy and clever for me, I give up!

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 18/07/2014 09:51

If Efra thought there was a chance Kassim was his then that's not the first time they've had sex. Even if it hasn't been ongoing they must have done it at least once before years ago. There's more to them than just a husband cheating now.

Floundering · 18/07/2014 14:15

Agree TheWoman they have history.

GypsyFloss · 18/07/2014 19:50

Right going for a second viewing ...

NigellasGuest · 18/07/2014 21:09

I quite fancied the abbatoir spy bloke in the mustard jumper and natty blue neckerchief -
quite Sad when he got shot in the head and strung up but there you go

GypsyFloss · 18/07/2014 21:36

Nope, none the wiser second time around.

I can't quite believe that Nathaniel actually walked into the stone quarry/ abattoir . Does he not watch any thrillers on tv?

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 18/07/2014 21:41

Perhaps he's read mn threads and because he wasn't wearing heels or in matching underwear etc he thought he was safe

BOFster · 18/07/2014 21:52

Yes, all that earlier bragging about how "extremely sensitive to threat" he was just ended up making him look like Gareth from The Office...

Optimist1 · 18/07/2014 22:01

Am I right in thinking that if they had tested a toothbrush that did belong to Kassim and if, as we suspect, Nessa is Kassim's mother then the DNA could show distinct similarities to Ephra's (since he's her brother)?

hollycomputer · 18/07/2014 22:12

I was also pretty surprised that Nathaniel walked right into that given his supposed experience.

I assumed that Kasim was Attica's and she'd been raped in captivity?

GypsyFloss · 18/07/2014 22:29

It was certainly implied that Attica had a hard time , with her bruised face etc but I'm not sure whether she was raped or indeed whether Nessa was either.

How many more have we to go?

Optimist1 · 18/07/2014 23:18

Four more episodes, Gypsy

BelleOfTheBorstal · 19/07/2014 02:50

Kassim is definitely Nessa's child. I have not worked out who the father is yet.
Attica used the toothbrush to get her dna on it. As they were just comparing the dna to Effra's, then it didn't really matter if maternal dna, were present. All they were looking for was a match to Efra. There wasn't one.
Nessa sent Nathaniel to his death Sad in order to protect Kassim.
As for the rest, have not really figued it out yet..
Apart from Attica.and Efra have been sleeping.together for a long time.
And I love Rachael's character, I feel sympathy for her and yet, at the same time, there are moments when I
could just slap her, but fire different reasons every time.
Nessa has lost my sympathies with her actions towards Nathaniel, even with the threat of Kassim's death, that puts blood on her hands.

northender · 19/07/2014 07:29

Actually I think there's 5 more episodes, Thursday's was 3/8. At the moment my brain is stretched enough by the first three so I can't imagine another 5 Grin. Agree, Nathaniel was a rubbish spy/bodyguard/detective.

GypsyFloss · 19/07/2014 08:18

We know that Nessa sent Nathaniel to his death to protect the secret but we don't actually know what that secret is. Certainly there are lots of clues to it being about Kasim and his paternity but maybe it's about something much bigger in the Israel/Palestine domain.

GypsyFloss · 19/07/2014 08:20

Damn I'm going to miss the last few episodes and my favourite bit, the post viewing analysis.

SquidgyMummy · 19/07/2014 16:12

Oh I missed the point of Nessa crying being because she sent Nathaniel to his death (must re-watch). Him being minced up was yuck!

I did say on p1 of this thread that Kassim was Nessa's. Clues being the her looking preggers in back of taxi and big blue t-shirt she looked like she had just given birth in in photo with Attica holding baby.

Interesting that Ephra used to head up Stein before Nessa.

I think he is the bad guy - probably arranged for his own sister to be kidnapped..., around the time the telecoms contracts were being given out. Perhaps he wanted to stay in arms dealing....

Optimist1 · 19/07/2014 16:28

Thanks for correcting me, northender - you're right, 5 more to come.

GypsyFloss · 19/07/2014 18:15

I agree SquidgyMummy about Ephra and the potential for him to be the bad guy . His face is inscrutable , he certainly appears to know more than he's letting on about Stein although not necessarily about Nessa. That photo was a complete surprise to him.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 19/07/2014 18:23

And it know it sounds weird but that actor doesn't tend to place 'nice' boring guys.

SuedeEffectPochette · 19/07/2014 23:19

So - just caught up with last episode. This is my theory. Yes, the child is Nessa's and this is what we are supposed to think is the "secret". Child's father is the burned face chap. However, I think there is a much deeper secret than that. Soonish, Nessa will get a call asking her to take the company in a direction she seemingly does not want to (eg. give the contract to Shlomo/or someone else). She will tell Ephra she has to do this as the child's life is at stake. However, this is a double bluff - she actually WANTS to do this but wants Ephra to think she is being forced into it. Nessa organised the child's kidnapping - hence why she does not seem too bothered about it and did not want the bodyguard to investigate it. So I think that Nessa is now sympathetic to the Palestinians but obviously this is a secret. Maybe she formed a relationship with the burned face chap - Stockholm syndrome.
