selling a house on ebay Shock

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/10/2013 21:16

I don't like this already. So over grass roofs and giant windows.

Quangle · 30/10/2013 21:38

a tortoise farm? Why?

Quangle · 30/10/2013 21:38

have tuned in late to this one. Where is this beautiful place?

difficultpickle · 30/10/2013 21:39

Newbury

difficultpickle · 30/10/2013 21:41

Here

mousmous · 30/10/2013 21:51

I like the flint wall. very beautiful.

mousmous · 30/10/2013 21:52

all those unusual angles make me a bit dizzy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/10/2013 21:59

If there is a power cut when the window is open are they a bit stuffed? If they'd had it sliding the other way gravity would have helped them.

wetaugust · 30/10/2013 22:10

Strikes me as a crazy vanity project. All that effort for only 2 bedrooms?

Did you notice the pools of water on the roof?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/10/2013 22:17

Bit worried about that roof. A nasty hail storm might make it holey and patching it would be a nightmare.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/10/2013 22:18

I did like the plant fossil in one of the flints though.

Quangle · 30/10/2013 22:51

I liked the flintiness but a parallelogram window? My normal ones stick now and again and they are not trying to be anything other than rectangles.

Newbury v beautiful! I couldn't open the link - think my officious work laptop thought it was something rude given the name of the brewery Grin

I wasn't a fan of this one. I loved the flint wall and I liked the general shape and size of the building but I disliked the interior a lot. The view out the window was fab but I still wanted more windows and a lot less black 'n white stuff.

Why would you restrict the window in the bedroom to a small strip at the side. I would have had a whole wall of window.

I felt a bit sorry for the Kevin the wobbly headed one as there wasn't much drama with the build. It was on time, on budget and the guys building it were happy with everything. That must be his worst nightmare.

Why am I so bored with this series? When I saw the virtual design of the house with its familiar bulky shape etc i just sighed. I did like the flint (although I laughed a bit that they only wanted flint from elsewhere because the local stuff wasn't the right colour). But that is no farmhouse really.

Maybe I've seen too much GD but I've really only enjoyed the cob house and the Japanese house.

Why am I so bored with this series?

^^ That's how I feel too.

It's just become formulaic -

big box - tick
big window - tick
wood burner - tick
walls from unusual matierials - tick
polished concrete floor - tick

If Kevin himself is picking these builds then I am disappointed that he can't see just how 'standard' this appears to viewers.

These builders show no passion - they just throw money at it.

As for the rubber roof - rubber perishes. I can't help thinking it was just a 'statement' - ohhhh look at us, we've got a rubber roof and a brewery called Two Cocks.

There are still interesting builds being undertaken - such as BBC2's Build a House for £100K or the other C4 programme that one on the other night. Those programmes are doing what GD used to do - before it became formulaic.

it even is a boring revisited...
