The big Corrie thread (Spoiler Alert!)

For those of us who have no life care about Corrie and want to see it returned to its former glory.

And want answers to questions such as:

Why are Sean and Marcus moving back into Eileen's pokey house instead of getting a place of their own as other couples with two wages would do?

And does anyone else apart from me and Edith Weston remember when Corrie was on two days a week and was a high quality drama/comedy?

I had the same 'Julie experience' too Sad

On a lighter note... how come Dreardrie said she was only a PA at the town hall? I'm sure I recall her being elected a counseller. In fact, did she not stand against Ken at one point?

EdithWeston · 04/05/2012 20:02

She was a councillor in the late 89s. When Alf Roberts stood down, Ken was going to run. But there was a conflict of interests between his candidacy and his role on the local paper. He decided to stick with the paper, and Deirdre decided to run, winning be a handful of votes. I'm not sure when she stopped being a councillor, but it was some time ago.

Blimey Edith

EdithWeston · 05/05/2012 09:29

I'm ancient, have watched for decades, and have a reasonably retentive memory.

I think there was more to that bit of story; there was a falling out with Audrey, so perhaps Alf was just up for re-election, Ken took one of his principled stands against him, and Deirdre filled his place when Ken withdrew? Anyone with clearer recollection?

Does this help at all? Is from Wikipedia, lists it as happening after K & D get back together in 1983, so obviously 1983+ It doesn't say when she is no longer in that job.

EdithWeston · 05/05/2012 10:09

Thanks.

I've just seen this thread has been opened for spoilers (came at it from the bottom IYSWIM via 'threads I'm on', so mercifully haven't had my enjoyment marred this time). But it means it's time for me to say goodbye to this thread.

LeeCoakley · 05/05/2012 10:17

Aaargh! I hate spoilers! And I've just logged on and my BT home page has Corrie storylines for next week splashed all over it. Very annoying

whatkungfuthat · 05/05/2012 11:04

There is a spoiler further up so mnhq marked it accordingly

PoorAudreyHorseface · 05/05/2012 11:21

Am starting a new Corrie thread WITHOUT spoilers for those of us who don't want to read 'em.

I'm off to EdithWatson's spoiler free thread here

lovelychops · 05/05/2012 15:23

Genuine question - how do you avoid spoliers when there are those soap magazines by tills in supermarkets giving everything away on the front cover ? I try to avert my gaze but it's always too late....!

hottiebottie · 05/05/2012 16:10

Confused - according to Julie's GP she was only going to have a biopsy, but they took both her ovaries, leaving her infertile. Couldn't they have harvested some eggs or something? Confused

whatkungfuthat · 05/05/2012 18:39

Its really hard to avoid spoilers, the ad's for Corrie this week have given loads of stuff away too. I don't think its correct to say the thread has been "opened for spoilers" but as I said, someone put one upthread so its surely better to be warned if you don't like them than read it?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/05/2012 19:01

I'm take it or leave it about spoilers, I do read them if I come across them, it's hard not to with Corrie TBH so I'm a bit nervous about posting on a thread that expressly says no spoilers in case I put my foot in it. So I'm going to lurk for a bit.

Triggles · 05/05/2012 20:35

hottie - I don't think they had time to even explore that option, given that the op was the next day. But would they even do that in NHS hospital? Private maybe, but I can't imagine NHS would, unless she had already been going through fertility treatments or something.
