Olivia Colman’s newly grown long grey hair

This time last year she sported her usual brunette wavy pixie cut showing
all of her face.
This week she has long crinkly shades of grey hair we are led to believe
she has grown in twelve months, embracing the grey/natural ageing.
Does anyone have an opinion on this phenomenon or believe this heavy
hanging hank of hair looks attractive, or is it perhaps a Statement.

Maybe the dark bob was a wig? I think she looks great but like pp I find her very irritating. I think she is a good actress though, she was miscast as the queen, I couldn't get past the fact that she was completely wrong physically, too tall, too dark, and too shrill.

It's not "trendy", it's personal preference. It's meaningless to say that she looks older than her age, what should 52 look like?

It is trendy to say grey hair looks good particularly on these boards. Just as it's trendy to say pixie cuts look great. It's rare either of these things look good and irl vast majority of women don't want grey or very short hair because it isn't particularly flattering.

AmIjustgrumpy · 30/09/2026 10:47

Christ what an awful bitchy thread 🤬

She looks great and I assume she likes it which is all that matters!

For “women” to start commenting on her personality as well as adding disparaging remarks about her hair is so disappointing.

I think people move in very different circles to me if she looks much older than 52. She looks fantasic at any age, and in very good condition compared to most 52 yos I know.

Is it like the way we've forgotten what normal weight looks like, we don't know what normal aging looks like either?

It is maybe extensions for a job, i don't think she said anything about her hair, did she ? I mean that film looks absolute garbage her hair is the least of her problems.

Tedwardy · 30/09/2026 10:47

What, you think she’s bought a long grey wig? I don’t understand.

Arlanymor · 30/09/2026 10:47

Performers change their hair every five minutes - they’re not ‘leading’ anyone to believe anything. What a non event.

This is probably true but I was genuinely surprised when I saw she was 52...i had assumed she was late 50s maybe even early 60s.

Really? You thought olivia coleman was in her 60s. Which 50ish year olds are you comparing her to?

LittleJustice · 30/09/2026 10:51

Well I thought it looked terrible like a matted birds nest and also find her extremely irritating unfortunately.

Blarn · 30/09/2026 10:53

I could grow from a pixie to that in 12 months.

I thought she looked in her 60s as well , she certainly looks a lot older than 52. The hair ages her, that’s only a negative if you perceive looking older than your age as a negative, which many do, and I think she looked lovely, but yes I also would assume that was a woman in her 60s.

edit to add, comparison to the women in their 50s I know. Which are many

Yeah, we all live our lives according to what’s deemed ‘flattering’. 🙄

I’m 54 and the only reason my hair is still coloured is because it’s greying in the weirdest way, a large grey patch to one side on the top of my head, and the rest still brown. It makes me look like I’m wearing a very, lopsided small grey beret. I’m in envy of friends who’ve greyed more evenly, or have developed distinguished-looking silver wings at their temples.

I genuinely didn't see it.

Additup · 30/09/2026 10:54

I think the grey hair really complements her colouring, much more than the dark brown she usually has which I think is a bit harsh. The style I like less, but that just personal preference re: hairstyles.

dreamingofgoodhair · 30/09/2026 10:54

It’s the exact reason I’m not leaving my hair to grow out.

issyforqueen · 30/09/2026 10:56

Lomonald · 30/09/2026 10:54

I genuinely didn't see it.

Nor me. Plus I think trying to guess someone's age is virtually impossible nowadays.

Huckleberries · 30/09/2026 10:56

Looks lovely, although I don’t really know why we’re talking about it

Most people’s grey hair wouldn’t be that even I don’t think so she’s probably had some blending done

But it’s nice to see more natural hair, isn’t it? Not dyed within an inch of its life and not straightened

issyforqueen · 30/09/2026 10:56

Some people do struggle with that, you see it on the how old am I threads, but many are usually fairly accurate. For me normally people look within 5 years of their age, Olivia is an exception. I think it’s the grey hair ageing her, even though she suits it and it works with her skin tone.

AtIusvue · 30/09/2026 11:01

It’s extensions, you can see her natural hair is still short and has brown/grey high/lowlights with the extensions added. It will be for a role.

I think she suits it.

BillieWiper · 30/09/2026 11:02

It's definitely for a role. Nobody would have extensions that long with natural hair that short? But if she was just in a wig or it naturally grew those grey curls (salt and pepper maybe?) it does suit her. It's just the wild juxtaposition of the length of the top and front with the rest looks off.

AtIusvue · 30/09/2026 11:03

It’s not a wig, you can see her natural hair shape is still there.

Extensions are added to short hair all the time.

I think it's attitudes like this that lead to women spending £160 to get their hair done at a salon every 6 weeks.

museumum · 30/09/2026 11:03

I like it. I don't get the hate.
