Loewe ballet runners or Hogan HiFis for jeans and wide legs?

HolidayHappy123 · 25/03/2026 11:27

I am a relatively new convert to Loewe and think my almost navy Puzzle bag is possibly one of the nicest I’ve ever owned. I am looking at the Loewe ballet runners which look gorgeous but I’ve also had my head turned by the Hogan HiFis in a similar colour way.

They are mostly to wear with jeans or wide leg trousers. I’ve just bought a gorgeous Veronica Beard Dicky Jacket and matching wide leg trousers in navy linen (not the high crease type) for Summer which is also the sort of thing I would wear trainers with. I’ve dropped from a size 20 to a size 12 over the past couple of years and I am loving building my new wardrobe of high quality timeless pieces.

Am I just a fool with a big budget? I also love my Addidas Spetzials which I have in 6 colours but at 52 I’m looking for something a bit more refined rather than matching with my teenagers. I haven’t ruled out getting the ballet runners and also getting the Hogans in the blue colourway, but since they are different heights it will be difficult to mix and match without tailoring my trousers to somewhere in the middle.

The thoughts of the style icons of MN would be greatly appreciated.

Price aside, I dont like either of the 2 you have linked.

The first one with the tread that comes over the front, they're ok apart from that.
The second ones, I dont like the splayed out sole.

Are we nearly out of the greige fad as well though?

HolidayHappy123 · 25/03/2026 11:43

Bizarrely I am completely incapable of seeing greige. What I see is clearly very brown and has no grey to it whatsoever. It’s much the same as my house which I decorated in shades of beige and champagne with accent colours of teal. Everyone says it is grey with accents of blue and that is not what I see.

A friend has been wearing the Loewe ones you’ve posted for 3 months or so. They looked nice at the beginning, they’re starting to collapse a bit now though. The fabric at the sides is sagging and creased in a really weird way. They’re not flimsy, I think they’re just oddly constructed.

As for looks, they just look like regular sneakers to me. But I’m probably not the right person to ask, I’m afraid I find obviously branded apparel quite tacky. But to each their own.

Well done on the weight loss!!

I have Loewe flow runners from about 2 years ago and love the way they look, but find them pretty uncomfortable. They somehow don't feel like trainers.

Funnily enough, I just bought these Hogans in a mid-blue shade that I don't see on the website and absolutely love them - just wore them without breaking them in at all for a long weekend in Paris where I ended up walking over 30,000 steps a day and they were super comfortable.

@canklesmctacotits I'm not a huge obvious logo person myself, but surely the Loewe logo is no more tacky than any other identifiable trainer one? It's not like the Adidas one leaves you scratching your head on who the maker might be.

OhDear111 · 25/03/2026 12:18

@HolidayHappy123 Loewe - but I haven’t tried them on. Just a classic slim running shoe. They are not trainers.

HugoThatway · 25/03/2026 12:54

Get both of them, but in all the colours.

HugoThatway · 25/03/2026 12:59

@HolidayHappy123 , the first pair are fashion shoes. The Hogans are hideous.

@OhDear111 I'm a runner and neither of them are running shoes.

Fleecy · 25/03/2026 13:27

I like the Loewe ones and I think they're fairly classic. I find the Hogan ones way too chunky.

separation · 25/03/2026 13:28

I actually like the Hogans that @user39056784 linked the most - they have a classic silhouette with some interesting details and they feel quite of the moment without being faddish. I think they'd go much better with wide-leg jeans/trousers than either of the ones OP posted (sorry, OP) - I wish I could explain why, but I can't, it's just an instinct!

But if YOU like them, you know what to do ;)

OhDear111 · 25/03/2026 13:31

@HugoThatway Ok!! Fashion “running” shoe then! It’s just a style of lace up shoe to us mere mortals.

HugoThatway · 25/03/2026 13:41

@HugoThatway , I am a mere mortal. It's no different from calling a certain type of lace-up ankle boot a hiking boot when a hiker would think of them as fashion boots.

Teatoweltoo · 25/03/2026 13:50

I really like the Loewe. Although am mainly interested in your almost navy puzzle bag / pics of that would be a treat! I think a pair of Onitsuka Tiger would also look good.

For me, the Hogans would be a bit too chunky for wide leg trousers. It might all look a bit oversized on the bottom half? Though it depends on the exact style of trousers I suppose.

newornotnew · 25/03/2026 13:55

Am I just a fool with a big budget? Yeah, I think maybe this is correct!

MrsMitford3 · 25/03/2026 14:00

I love the Loewe, think the others are awful.

Sashya · 25/03/2026 14:05

Have you seen others in the same(ish) style?
Generally - I think the wide trousers would look better with higher sole.

These are in the similar budget and could work too...

cramptramp · 25/03/2026 14:06

The Hogans look like built up shoes worn by small men. Sorry.

Appleblum · 25/03/2026 14:09

The hogans are awful. The loewe looks alright but not sure if they are comfortable... they look very similar to new balance 327s, and the latter looks better in my humble opinion.

SpinandSing · 25/03/2026 14:37

Honestly think that trainers look best when they are made by an actual sports brand. There’s something weird about trainers made elsewhere…they always look like a budget buy to me.

If you really want the height, the Converse Run Star Hikes are amazing. Such a comfortable shoe and go brilliantly with wide leg trousers. I’ve got a white pair and keep wearing them too much as they go with everything! You just have to get used to the look.

Happy to oblige….

There's something 'inauthentic' about them.

Oneborneverydecade · 25/03/2026 15:25

I'd love to be a fool with a big budget, that sounds like great fun! I can't imagine having 6 of the same style of trainer - I thought I was being frivolous considering a 2nd pair of Adidas SL72s 😁
Love the bag, not a fan of the trainers (but I'm not wearing them so who cares)

HugoThatway · 25/03/2026 15:43

I also love my Addidas Spetzials which I have in 6 colours
How many pairs of feet do you have?

cupfinalchaos · 25/03/2026 17:06

I have a similar pair of Hogans and they’re the most comfortable pair of trainers I’ve ever had. Not mad on the big Loewe sign on the other pair.

goingtoexplodeandexplodesomemore · 25/03/2026 17:16

I think they are both really ugly shoes. If I wore them to do my weekly shop at Asda no-one would know they were ridiculously expensive but I guess I move in different circles to the OP. For that kind of money I would buy a pair of gorgeous hand made ( well all shoes technically are) leather boots and take damn good care of thr but I think its all relative.

Saz12 · 25/03/2026 19:11

I'm not a fashionable person, nor do I have your budget. That said, I quite like the Leowe ones. In the pictures, both options look a bit Marks & Spencers though I imagine close up their better materials are more obvious!
