Loewe ballet runners or Hogan HiFis for jeans and wide legs?

HolidayHappy123 · 25/03/2026 11:27

I am a relatively new convert to Loewe and think my almost navy Puzzle bag is possibly one of the nicest I’ve ever owned. I am looking at the Loewe ballet runners which look gorgeous but I’ve also had my head turned by the Hogan HiFis in a similar colour way.

They are mostly to wear with jeans or wide leg trousers. I’ve just bought a gorgeous Veronica Beard Dicky Jacket and matching wide leg trousers in navy linen (not the high crease type) for Summer which is also the sort of thing I would wear trainers with. I’ve dropped from a size 20 to a size 12 over the past couple of years and I am loving building my new wardrobe of high quality timeless pieces.

Am I just a fool with a big budget? I also love my Addidas Spetzials which I have in 6 colours but at 52 I’m looking for something a bit more refined rather than matching with my teenagers. I haven’t ruled out getting the ballet runners and also getting the Hogans in the blue colourway, but since they are different heights it will be difficult to mix and match without tailoring my trousers to somewhere in the middle.

The thoughts of the style icons of MN would be greatly appreciated.

I've just been through that link and I still despise loafers. I wonder if there's a name for loafer phobia?

Anyway, what did you decide in the end, OP?

Shoes are my passion. I have just over 200 pairs I think of various types. But no loafers! I really dislike them!

They're all pretty bad.

Are these the Gucci Brixton? One of my many pairs of loafers (also a fan!).

I think the key to styling loafers is to lean into the opposite aesthetic if that makes sense? I tend to stick to similar outfit formulas as this article

https://www.instyle.com/loafers-with-jeans-outfit-formulas-11866529

Sorry for derailing the thread OP!

Yes. I was deciding between these & the Jordaan for ages. They are incredibly soft but I do have to put arch supports in

I clicked on this thread because it happened to be at the top of the Featured threads on my home page.

I'm now trying to decide whether it's a satire thread or whether a percentage of MN posters really do inhabit a totally different world to us lesser mortals.

HugoThatway · 28/03/2026 15:27

@Farewelltothatid , you mean you don't have 6 pairs of bog standard daps and fancy a pair of £500'/600 hideous beige trainers?

Why are you being so rude? This isn’t AIBU. People on this board are usually pretty respectful of each other’s fashion choices, and if they don’t like something they tend to express it with tact rather than nastiness.

Farewelltothatid · 28/03/2026 15:40

@HugoThatway
I''m totally ashamed and embarrassed to have to admit I don't!

I'm afraid some of us don't take fashion so seriously.

That’s fine of course. Why post on the style and beauty board then? Just to mock? Seems like an odd thing to do but hey.

Comefromaway · 28/03/2026 15:56

Some of us have spent 50 years wearing cheap clothes & shoes because we couldn’t afore anything else and now that we are in a more fortunate position want to find joy and confidence in finally being able to buy beautiful, quality items that last.

And? Have you figured it out yet?

HugoThatway · 28/03/2026 16:06

@TryUmph , the colourful Adidas shoes are everywhere. The Loewe shoes in the OP have a certain appeal but a lot of money for shoes that won't last.
You posted that my reply to a named poster was rude when it was just a bit of fun between her and me.

@Comefromaway , trainers don't generally last very long. I'd reckon about a year or so.
A good pair of leather shoes that have been maintained can last decades.

I would like to think it's satire but unfortunately I think it's just a glimpse into a different world.

Comefromaway · 28/03/2026 16:12

I’ll be honest, I only bought my first pair of trainers last year (I haven't owned a pair since I left school) so I wouldn’t really know. I wanted Veja ones but they were uncomfortable so I brought a really nice pair from All Saints in the sale.

I don't normally go onto the Syle and Beauty board.
I explained how I came to look at the thread.

I actually think perhaps it's a good thing if posters who don't take fashion so seriously do post on threads like these. Giving a different perspective and point of view to provide a bit of balance is surely a good thing?

HugoThatway · 28/03/2026 16:20

I was offered a pair of Vejas and declined because they were uncomfortable but they were the vegan ones. I won't go near Adidas because I found Stan Smiths didn't seem to like my feet.

All Saints has some nice clothes.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 28/03/2026 16:30

HugoThatway · 25/03/2026 12:54

Get both of them, but in all the colours.

And is every size.

EspanaPorfavor · 28/03/2026 16:37

I love Loewe bags (have a puzzle too but love your navy one!) but not a fan of these trainers, I think they look a bit granny ish (not that there’s anything wrong with grannies but mine has a penchant for Hotter type trainers and these remind me of those).

for that reason I prefer the other ones, but I’m not sure either are nice enough to be worth the money.

HugoThatway · 28/03/2026 16:37

Can I jump on this thread with a similar trainer dilemma?

I'm considering these Chloe Kick trainers. Has anyone got them> Are Chloe comfortable? Does anyone else do a similar style but cheaper?
What do you think?

www.chloe.com/en-gb/p/spring-2026/sneakers/CH26S15RWR26Y.html

Those Chloe ‘trainers’ look like baby pram shoes, and very uncomfortable too. They look way too flat, more like ballet pumps.
Crazy price too.

HugoThatway · 28/03/2026 16:54

baby pram shoes Grin

Overtheatlantic · 28/03/2026 16:57

I still don’t know what a ballet runner is and why it’s called that 🤔

HugoThatway · 28/03/2026 17:07

@Overtheatlantic , baby pram shoes for adults.
