Loewe ballet runners or Hogan HiFis for jeans and wide legs?

HolidayHappy123 · 25/03/2026 11:27

I am a relatively new convert to Loewe and think my almost navy Puzzle bag is possibly one of the nicest I’ve ever owned. I am looking at the Loewe ballet runners which look gorgeous but I’ve also had my head turned by the Hogan HiFis in a similar colour way.

They are mostly to wear with jeans or wide leg trousers. I’ve just bought a gorgeous Veronica Beard Dicky Jacket and matching wide leg trousers in navy linen (not the high crease type) for Summer which is also the sort of thing I would wear trainers with. I’ve dropped from a size 20 to a size 12 over the past couple of years and I am loving building my new wardrobe of high quality timeless pieces.

Am I just a fool with a big budget? I also love my Addidas Spetzials which I have in 6 colours but at 52 I’m looking for something a bit more refined rather than matching with my teenagers. I haven’t ruled out getting the ballet runners and also getting the Hogans in the blue colourway, but since they are different heights it will be difficult to mix and match without tailoring my trousers to somewhere in the middle.

The thoughts of the style icons of MN would be greatly appreciated.

You've taken this personally when there is no need. It's just a difference in opinion. I'm sorry you feel picked on if that is what you are saying.

I don't feel picked on.

I feel fucked off when a pleasant thread about shoe advice attracts snarky judgy posts claiming you can't be real/ must be a fool/ demands you explain why you like the thing you are harmlessly chatting about.

It's just unnecessary snottiness and self aggrandising on a thread about shoes.

StrawberryWasp · 29/03/2026 17:51

These are the jazz shoes I've never forgotten:

@StrawberryWasp , They're very similar to the ones I linked.

StrawberryWasp · 29/03/2026 18:09

I've ordered the Vivaia Sneakerinas recommended earlier on here, which led me to these shoes which would surely transform me into Emma Stone in La la Land??

https://www.vivaia.com/products/XRPD01275/Ciara?gid=10034795

Maybe I should just start dancing again instead of just buying dance inspired shoes?

I used to sell those

Merc123 · 29/03/2026 22:31

$890 for ONE pr of shoes?? Unless custom orthotic I wouldnt pay that for even the finest leather boots let alone some nylon joggers w a big goofy Laverne style Sscript L splashed across them. $890! But that is steep for me to spend on my whole wardrobe annually which may be low for some. These are errand running jogger tennies. For that I wear anything, and for actual working out Karhu synchron brand new on ebay free ship $18 (no digit forgotten, $18)
Great on the weight loss! Def treat yourself to some new pretty outfits but $890 single pr of shoes isnt a treat...sorry but its a ridiculous waste of money😕

If you say that's how you feel then so be it . I can't help if my words make you feel like that. 🤷‍♀️ I did ask why people pay over the odds for a logo- that's a reasonable question. As you say it's style and beauty and everyone is entitled to contribute whether you like it or not.

You can choose to go with the 'sorry you feel that way' instead of owning the fact that you came on a thread just to make people feel bad about the choices they make.

I did ask why people pay over the odds for a logo- that's a reasonable question.

In your mind, I guess, but it's actually a stupid question because the only possible answer is that they want to and they can. And I know I've explained why I buy shoes and it's not 'for the logo' (as, I believe, have others), but you still phrase it that way, which would seem imply that either you're obtuse or that your contributions are pretty disingenuous.

Off the top of my head, I can think of some things I wouldn't do - feed my DCs chicken nuggets, holiday in Dubai (even pre-war), live in a new build on a suburban estate. So what would be the point of me going on a thread asking for the best brand of chicken nuggets, which hotel in Dubai, or new build A vs new build B in the Surrey suburbs?

🤷‍♀️ Back at you.

Oh bore off with your faux confused non apology for just asking critical searching questions...on a thread where we were chatting about shoes.

You make scrutinising other people's shoe choices sound like brave investigative journalism 🤣.

Not really, you're just being a dick, but if it makes you feel good in some way, carry on.

corblimeyguvnr · 30/03/2026 11:53

If you feel sensitive about this don't go on to the " what do you think of these sandals " thread 😂

Edited

Not particularly sensitive. You didn't make me feel event the tiniest smidgen of bad, because why would I care what you think?

But this post does manage to emphasise that you're either a dick or not too smart, because you don't seem to realise the difference between 'what do you think of these sandals,' which is literally asking for an opinion on those sandals. This thread asks, shoe A or shoe B, but does not, at any point, ask, what do you think of people who buy shoes you deem too expensive.

I'm sorry you're struggling, but HTH

Yes you've Got Me. I'm supersensitive about my shoes 🤣

Or...

I don't like people unnecessarily rudely attacking others over trivial matters to elevate themselves.

You weren't offering opinion and advice and you know it. You were trying to suggest we were fools with no sense for liking these shoes.

You can post what you like, but when you barge into pleasant shoe threads being rude, people may not like it.

Quite.

If you can't tell the difference between constructive criticism such as:

'I don't think they're well made for that price.'

And:

'Why do stupid people even buy these shoes??'

Well then I question who the stupid people in this scenario actually are...

The ones who liked expensive shoes?Or the ones who can't understand basic interaction differences?

Where did I ask why stupid people buy these shoes? I didn't. Please don't put words into my mouth.

After saying that I will leave you to soothe each other with your logo trainers. Enjoy your shoes 😉

corblimeyguvnr · 29/03/2026 12:37

No one has answered the question I posted earlier- what is it about these type of shoes that encourage people to drop 500 on these? It's not the technical factors of the shoe? So is it purely for the logo? I don't understand it as every roadman is wearing these or a copy of these things.

Here you go ^

This is you insisting we explain why we like these shoes, and why we would spend money on shoes 'every road man' is wearing. And why it must be just for the logo.

Cos we are superficial idiots who know no better than status signal through logos presumably?

Basic inference can read the sneering.

You pretending it was anything else is just silly.

Alternative answer, we have better taste.

Ballet runners are not a good idea..No.proper support in their design to hold the shoe together. They don't even look good on

Just the current money making design fad for the gullible and dedicated followers of fashion w

An ad for these just popped up for me, which reminded me of the loafers vs trainers discussion earlier in this thread. Best of both worlds? Grin

Or the worst of both worlds 😂

I tried these on last year. Super comfortable, but just too ugly to bring myself to buy them

They're better than the NB ones but still not good.

HugoThatway · 02/04/2026 10:33

They are exactly why I dislike the sneakerinas. They're not one thing or the other.

HolidayHappy123 · 03/04/2026 13:47

Gosh, I didn’t realise this had kicked off. I could have had such fun last weekend responding to goady comments.

Anyway, update: I ordered the Hogans but I didn’t like them so they are going back. I haven’t decided on trainers yet but while pondering I did buy these which I love:
