School bag Longchamp

I am looking to surprise dd with a Longchamp bag for her birthday. She likes the navy, paper and black colours.

But which is the style that all the girls are wearing to school?

Is it this: Le Pliage Original Large Shoulder Bag
https://www.johnlewis.com/longchamp-le-pliage-original-large-shoulder-bag/black/p5051141?gad_campaignid=20158965733&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD2el1xjO7bxkKRJ6yqwM7ityjWPI&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4PPNBhD8ARIsAMo-iczwYKcXCwun-dVEfNsaTdW4i49m_b6JP5jda-YRCYJNvGrWqNy1HdkaAlFJEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&s_ppc=2dx_mixed_fashion_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2

Or the medium sized one?

I know it's got long straps so can be worn as a shoulder bag.

Please help.

You can fit a laptop and folders into the large one. Avoid pale colours as they look grubby within minutes. Expect it to get lost or stolen from amongst the 20 other black or navy ones. Consider a different colour instead.

Folliesandfriends · 20/03/2026 09:25

Thanks, yes, she has a laptop to carry around, so the large one. Is the one I linked to the right style?

My dd has the navy large one for school

Worrieddancemum · 20/03/2026 09:26

Yes that’s the correct one in your link

Hoppinggreen · 20/03/2026 09:27

I agree with avoiding pale ones
I am not passing judgment on these bags as school bags, they would work pretty well but I haven't seen any school kids with them around here.
DD has few and wouldn't have used them for school or college

honeylulu · 20/03/2026 09:56

Yes forget the pale one, it will look grubby very quickly. Dark colour definitely.

They are great bags, really practical. My friend gave me the green one for my 50th which I loved (had never heard of them before!) I've since bought the black one too.

Mischance · 20/03/2026 09:58

There will be cheaper options that do the same thing!

PenelopeAsks · 20/03/2026 10:07

I wash my Pilage bags, when they get grubby, on a short wash in the washing machine. I use non bio powder and no conditioner. The leather has always been fine.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 20/03/2026 10:10

My kids really want one but their school is very prescriptive that they have black backpacks much to their horror. If I was going to get them one you need the big one. Also carrying a laptop on one shoulder is not great. I do love the bags and have one but I couldn’t use it for work.

Yes, but teenage girls want the real thing!

Round here it’s definitely the bag of choice.

Epli · 20/03/2026 10:46

I see a lot of Navy ones in large size worn by schoolgirls.

Dearover · 20/03/2026 10:48

We caught a Eurostar to Paris a while back alongside a 6th form school trip. You couldn't move for black and navy ones. I have a flamingo large one and a small cross body Energy one in duck egg. I wouldn't buy a fake as you buy for the quality.

greglet · 20/03/2026 10:49

The large one in navy or black. Lots of girls at my school have them. No, they’re not as practical as a backpack, but when have teenagers ever cared about that? There are definitely less practical bags out there so I wouldn’t let that put me off if it’s what she wants.

nongnangning · 20/03/2026 10:54

Agree with PPs about sticking to a darker colour. The paler ones show the marks and scuffs quickly, the darker ones not. They are great bags tho

KellsBells7 · 20/03/2026 10:59

Definitely large. If you order from Flannels they can embroider their initial on which helps!

StationJack · 20/03/2026 11:00

£125 for a school bag! The world's gone mad.

And?

Folliesandfriends · 20/03/2026 11:04

Thanks for all the replies. I will order the large one, black or navy? Blazer is navy, winter coat black.

And?

If it gets nicked/swapped it won't be £125 wasted.

Dearover · 20/03/2026 11:21

When I was little I desperately wanted a Spirograph. I got given a Swingograph instead. Over 40 years later I can still remember the disappointment. Why on earth would you buy a cheap & nasty fake if you can afford the real thing?

Ferreroroch · 20/03/2026 11:35

Please check your school policy first as these types of bags are banned at my children’s school.

Rucksacks only!!!

Sourisblanche · 20/03/2026 11:35

My dd had a navy one for sixth form, it lasted really well.

ChangePlease · 20/03/2026 11:36

Oh no are these school bags now?? Does this mean they are no longer a choice for the style conscious adult? Help I have two and use them to death! do I need to consign them to the back of the wardrobe?

(Lighthearted in case not obvious)

You're even cooler as you're using them throughout their life cycle. Eco warrier!

Not banned, every other girl in year 9 and above has one of these. It used be the Kanken before that.
