Tummytroublesagain1 · 01/03/2026 15:35

Currently swooning over most things in ME+EM. Why oh why does it have to be so nice but soooo expensive

ive been to the store in Manchester and do have a couple of items but I could literally buy so much more if only I could afford it

does anyone have any cheaper alternative that are just a gorgeous?

I really don’t get Me+EM. People rave about it so I’ve considered trying it, but I’ve never seen anything on the website that I like enough to order. The basics look similar to COS or Jigsaw which are both cheaper, and the prints are hideous to my eye. For example:

https://www.meandem.com/maxi-skirt-co-ord-cinnamon-multi
https://www.meandem.com/relaxed-knit-tee-co-ord-pink-multi

I’d love to know what people find to buy in there. Maybe things look better when you see them in person.

I think the colourful skirts would be ok with plain tops. I dont like the coords. Its a bit much.

Chumpington · 01/03/2026 16:09

It's not all that. It's all pretty much the same as Whistles, Hush, Cos. All just mediocre and overhyped high street wear. Don't feel bad and overspend, just look at other shops.

TFImBackIn · 01/03/2026 16:10

Oh I jumped when I opened that second link!

Agree with this. Have never got the love for it here.

I went into the Manchester store last weekend, I was excited as I've just lost quite a bit of weight and had seen their clothes online and wanted to buy something but nothing at all appealed to me unfortunately.

Nanda66 · 01/03/2026 16:18

I love their clothes but they are very overpriced. I only buy Me and Em clothes on Vinted. Except for their palazzo pants which are great and reasonably priced.

savvy7 · 01/03/2026 17:57

The quality of their clothing is way better than most of the High Street and they often use natural materials. I stalk their sales though.

I completely agree that the prices are scary, but I have things from there which I wear and wear.

Why I like them:
a) the fabric is usually excellent. I wear the silk cotton blouses to work and they have been machine washed on a delicate cycle umpteen times and still look great.
b) Many items are cut beautifully - jackets, dresses and trousers in particular. However, I always have to try things on, as not everything works.
c) The prints are either a huge hit for me or a huge miss. Some of them I absolutely love. They do non-naff florals (although I agree some are hideous)
d) The bags are also great. High quality, no obvious logo.
e) The belts are absolutely fabulous. I wear and wear these. The double sided ones are particularly great.

I recently bought the double sided mac which sold out (check on one side, plain on t’other). Saw subsequently that there is a similar reversible Mac in Zara and panicked at the price difference. Looked at zara one to see if I should have got that one instead and return mine but decided not to. Me and Em one has shower proofing, a detachable hood and is a lovely slightly swingy cut and a more flattering length. Check print is subtler and Mac is fully cotton whereas Zara is polyester on one side and cotton polyester blend on the other. There is a huge difference in quality between the two.

This is the sort of stuff that puts me off. I don’t like the prints. It looks rather 1970s to me, but maybe that’s in style at the moment. Not my bag.

I might consider trying some of the plainer stuff if good quality. Well cut trousers in particular are hard to find.

I was born in the 70’s (just) which is probably why it appeals 🤣 obviously personal taste but I love all of the argyle jumpers on there ❤️

I always find myself observing with interest - because I can see they seriously aim to make working women look well dressed. But it’s not my style at all. And it’s really nothing like Cos, at all.

I was totally fascinated by the Labour Party endorsement- and the ways that did and didn’t succeed. And the way that greater exposure allowed them to switch up a gear at the top end of their price point. (Even though most things remained at upper High St budget level.)

They have some great ideas, like the travel dress in all its iterations, but I’m rather wedded to natural fabrics as far as possible, and too many things aren’t. And the shapes and colours just wouldn’t work for me or my wardrobe.

I also think their wearers either need a good eye, or a stylist with faultless taste. So it’s not for everyone.

I have this
https://www.meandem.com/balloon-sleeve-slim-layering-top-black

and this
https://www.meandem.com/intricate-embroidery-blouse-soft-white

Both bought specifically to wear with sleeveless dress/pinafore. They're perfect and were exactly what I was looking for.

That black top is absolutely beautiful. I’ve never spent that much on a top but I’m very tempted.

Thank you. The black top is for wearing under this dress. The neckline of the top is hidden under the dress so just the sleeves show. It makes the dress very dramatic.

I would probably say if you go for it make sure before you buy it you have at least one outfit you know you'll wear it with or it might risk just hanging looking lovely.

It is lovely, but what is the exact length? It frustrates me when retailers and sellers don't state that. I would buy much more (and return less) if that info was available.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 01/03/2026 21:10

I am a short ass so it is no good at all for me!!

Ireolu · 01/03/2026 21:16

I'm a fan. Best trousers. I have several pairs. Cut and fit are awesome. Better than hush, cos, whistles and jigsaw IMHO. On the longer side yes. I shop from the sale generally. Not everything is great (don't like their cheesecloth) but more hits than misses.

curious79 · 01/03/2026 21:19

Quality is superb, and the knits last very well. Beautiful colours. I love the trousers - interesting materials and colours plus enough length on them vs other brands. I hate the luxe materials they sometimes use that end up being posh polyester. Sign up for sale alerts if you love them.

Good point! I will measure and add it!
