Tummytroublesagain1 · 01/03/2026 15:35

Currently swooning over most things in ME+EM. Why oh why does it have to be so nice but soooo expensive

ive been to the store in Manchester and do have a couple of items but I could literally buy so much more if only I could afford it

does anyone have any cheaper alternative that are just a gorgeous?

Did you find their staff really rude? I think the Manchester store staff have a really bad attitude

Totally agreed with this, very unwelcoming. I carried on going to the Selfridges concession but that has now closed. Staff there were lovely

Lucia573 · 02/03/2026 19:36

I also love Me&Em. The fabrics and cut put them in a different league to Whistles, Hush etc. The shop I find comparable is Sessun, but that is also pricey. Me&Em trousers and jumpsuits are the best!

BlackRowan · 02/03/2026 19:37

It looks like overpriced Biden most of the time. Which is not a compliment.

WhiskyandWater · 02/03/2026 20:00

I love Me and Em. The clothes really come alive when you wear them, it’s all in the cut and quality of fabric. I’ve got pieces I’ve worn for years that are like new.

Do you have a link for the Biden site?

I think their clothes are beautifully made (hence the hefty price tag) and they do look stunning on pretty women with average figures. I find the models and styling jarring.

I dream of ME+EM offering me makeover - a year’s worth of classic pieces and I’d never have to shop again

ME+EM isn’t my favourite brand but I absolutely love that little argyle knit!

And that black dress is gorgeous @PhaedraWas.

ChangePlease · 02/03/2026 21:34

Their trousers are second to none in terms of fit, I’m tall and not much waist definition, or not very ‘womanly’ shape, and struggle with trousers not being quite right. Me + Em are just spot on. I am forever keeping an eye on vinted.

SucculentWindowLedge · 02/03/2026 22:21

I suspect it may be about age, to some degree. As I get older, I require very well-cut clothes if I want to look polished.

ME&EM reliably flatter me. The fit is great and the fabrics are lovely. The clothes wash well and hold their shape for years.

I used to love Jigsaw and Boden. I find that Boden looks good in the catalogue but doesn't flatter me anymore, the clothes make me look all lumpy (I am lumpy, the clothes and cheaper fabrics expose the lumps). Same with Baukjen. I don't love the Jigsaw fabrics - they are too sweaty for my perimenopausal self.

I like Whistles and Cos as well. Reiss is good. I don't get on with Wyse, I am not that skinny and can't abide by poofy shoulders.

ME&EM is good the way Boden used to good. They are dead reliable - I know it will flatter and the quality is good. Sizing is mostly consistent. It's worth it for the time I save.

That black top is absolutely beautiful. I’ve never spent that much on a top but I’m very tempted.

But viscose and elastane ? 🤢 For £150?!

LadeOde · 02/03/2026 23:18

I love the look of their trousers but they are way out of my budget. How on earth do people afford them?

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 02/03/2026 23:56

Thanks (I think!) everyone for a new brand to obsess over. I'll be following for sales/second hand as the prices are way above what I'd normally pay.

Any advice on fit, are they true to size and does the cut favour any particular body type?

stickystick · 03/03/2026 04:38

@Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice I’d say most things come up generously. Trousers are very long and fairly roomy round the waist. Unless you are 5.8 or above, or wear towering heels all the time, I’d always go for the S length. Knits are generous. Blazers/jackets tend to be boxy/roomy in cut anyway, but you could even size down. I also have a couple of high neck sleeveless tops which have huge armholes which rather inelegantly show your underwear if you lift your arms.
The only thing that’s maybe a little small in sizing are fitted tees and tops. I’ve got a brown Breton striped one which is only just big enough in the size above my normal size.

Sesma · 03/03/2026 06:23

I couldn't buy anything from there though I can afford it, Angela Rayner did nothing for the brand and all I see when I look at the clothes is that dreadful green trouser thing she wore and other ill fitting clothes.

Delatron · 03/03/2026 07:32

Agree the quality and cut are really good. Annoyingly the prices have skyrocketed in the past few years. They were much, much cheaper when they first launched - I felt like I’d found a real gem of a shop.

I buy from them much less now and mainly in the sale. The odd thing is reasonably price. Many of the pieces, especially the dresses can be a bit dowdy. But the knitwear, tops and trousers are good.

I think that’s ridiculous. I don’t like 75% of their range but there are some lovely items. The current range has a lovely 100% cotton cheesecloth top with beautiful detailing on the back which I covet. Whether I can bring myself to pay the thick end of £100 for a cheesecloth top is another matter.

Agreed.

Floisme · 03/03/2026 09:13

It doesn't call to me like certain items of Margaret Howell or Toast do, plus their trousers are far too long for me, but I can still see why it appeals. I think they're very good at interpreting trends to make them wearable and also at reinventing classics to make them look modern.

I still have fond memories of their ruched jersey skirts and dresses that were just within budget if I hung on for a discount.

I agree Angela Rayner looked a bugger in that trouser suit but I think the red dress that Victoria Starmer wore would have been right up her (AR's) street - my theory is that Angela had had her eye on it but Mrs S got there first.

Notsosweetcaroline · 03/03/2026 09:15

I’m with you op. I buy a load from them. Either in the sale, or full price and I also buy on vinted, the quality and the fit is fabulous.

today im wearing these jeans and this vest but in the paler tan colour.

anyone thinking they are like jigsaw, whistles, cos etc haven’t tried the products, the quality of the material and the cut is a different level.

Agree, the quality is superb. But I only have a couple of things - have ordered loads and sent nearly all back as most just doesn't suit me for whatever reason. And their trousers are ridiculously long, I'm 5ft7in and they trail along the ground, which may look fabulous in photos but is just not practical. I've had some taken up but it was a faff.

I think that’s about leg length, I’m half an inch shorter and they fit me perfect length, just touching top of foot. But I’ve long legs and a short body. I noticed the jeans I’m wearing are on a much taller model but they fit me to touch top of foot not touch the floor.

i suspect it’s based on body shape, they feel like they are cut for me, and we all tend to find brands that work for our own bodies.

Tummytroublesagain1 · 03/03/2026 09:32

Honestly what I've learnt by being 5ft 1in and having an hourglass figure is that waist fitting is everything - I can get the length altered as lets face it, most things don't fit me no matter where I get them from. The waist on the trousers from ME+EM are amazing

I've just gone for it and ordered the brown/white cheesecloth dress for summer, I'm so looking forward to it arriving

Interesting because I used to be a great fan of Toast but they’ve lost me now. Absurd prices for very ordinary clothes on the whole. I fell in love with a dress last year which went straight back - £195, made in China and didn’t fit anywhere because the proportions were awful. I think it’s completely lost its way.
