Currently swooning over most things in ME+EM. Why oh why does it have to be so nice but soooo expensive

ive been to the store in Manchester and do have a couple of items but I could literally buy so much more if only I could afford it

does anyone have any cheaper alternative that are just a gorgeous?

I absolutely love those jeans and was going to treat myself but they’re out of stock in my size….. 32 leg is perfect for me. Shall keep an eye out for when they come back in stock and get them in the cart before I think about the price!

I also like Baukjen Robyn jeans. I have a pair and they’re very flattering.

Yes they are selling out really fast.

I love the clothes on the whole - I have some dresses, tops and knitwear. Trousers are always tricky for me as I’m an apple / inverted triangle with no waist or hips so I’ve avoided.
But I’m intrigued by people saying the trousers are really good and quite generous at the waist. Any specific recommendations to style please? I’m a size 12 generally.

stickystick · 03/03/2026 16:11

@BillStickersIsInnocent I buy the “perfect pleat front man pants.” Also a size 12. I have them in two colours! I have no backside and I find they disguise that quite well.

Thank you!

I have neither the body nor the budget for most of their clothes but it’s always popping up on instagram and I do love the look.

I have a family 70th birthday party coming up, village hall, band. I’m thinking of treating myself to this shirt, to dress up smart jeans, black belt and my beloved black solovair boots. What do people think?
I’m size 12, 5 foot 3,

I have a small collection of Me and Em pieces from sales. I agree they are pricey, but the quality, fabric, cut and prints are fantastic. I have 3 sundresses which are all incredible and the jumpers I have from there are lasting really well. I would buy more if I could afford to! One thing I have noticed recently is that M and S are copying some of the Me and Em styles in knitwear, so if I see something in M and S that reminds me of Me and Em style I sometimes buy it, for a quarter of the price 🤣

That shirt is gorgeous and a steal in the sale. I have a similar Me and Em one bought 3 years ago and it is my go to fancy top. You won’t regret it!

Notsosweetcaroline · 03/03/2026 17:25

@ShamedBySiri that blouse is lovely.

@Liquidacrobat ,I’ve noticed that too, M&S also copy a lot of the men’s Reiss stuff as well. Lots of companies are copying me and em, they do a multi media dress that multiple companies have now ripped off.

ShamedBySiri · 03/03/2026 17:29

Thanks. It’s in my basket! Hopefully won’t look too fussy.

Nanda66 · 03/03/2026 17:49

I’ve also just ordered that blouse. It looks gorgeous and a great price!

faffadoodledo · 03/03/2026 17:54

I am long of body and leg, and find the fit is great. Quality too. But the moment that quality wobbles I'll stop buying.

I’m a bit worried it is better suited to a taller person with longer limbs. I’m more of a crisp white shirt person but wanted something more partyish iyswim.
I can’t face wearing a dress or a skirt, and that opens up the whole issue of what footwear to wear, I definitely can’t dance in heels these days.

Anyway I have a taller slimmer daughter who will probably gratefully accept it if it doesn’t suit. 🤞

tutugogo · 03/03/2026 19:21

I have never found anything that fitted properly, they seem to think women are flat chested, I like the fabrics

i’m not sure if I should have sized up as it might be too small, I have ample boobs! But I thought I’d give it a try and return it if it doesn’t fit

I find them quite generous sized.

to be fair I don’t have any blouses, but I have 4 dresses, one skirt, 4 or 5 pairs of trousers and track pants,, two ot their jeans, and several tops. Mainly sleeveless vest types. They are all generous sized and I often size down. I’m a size eight for example and i get the track pants in a six. I even have one pair in a 4 as I felt the fit was too wide in the bigger sizes.

So, id not size up to be honest but go for your normal size. It is always nerve racking waiting to see if it fits though. That top has stretch so I’d guess will be fine, and very flattering.

I have this
https://www.meandem.com/balloon-sleeve-slim-layering-top-black

and this
https://www.meandem.com/intricate-embroidery-blouse-soft-white

Both bought specifically to wear with sleeveless dress/pinafore. They're perfect and were exactly what I was looking for.

Ah see this is another things that puts me off ME+EM. The necklines are often so high. Necklines like the one on that black top are really unflattering on me. I guess it’s the fashion atm so most shops are selling high necklines, but ME+EM seem to be especially high! I don’t want my tops strangling me, I miss V necks.!

Too long trousers also puts me off ordering from them. If I’m paying a lot for trousers, I really don’t more expense and faff having to get them altered.

LadyLapsang · 03/03/2026 20:34

I have quite a lot of clothes from Me and Em, but they used to be considerably cheaper, I even picked up a white cotton tux shirt for £10 at one of their Chelsea town hall sales, I am tall and long limbed.

Cakegold · 03/03/2026 21:24

I love Me +Em too, but now its really out of my budget since I retired, I do hanker after the odd piece and constantly scroll vinted, as it comes up regularly, and if its exactly what I want I get it! The quality is beautiful and the cut is always flattering for women.
However, now I tend to buy Mint Velvet , still beautifully cut but much more affordable , although top end of high street prices.I also like classic cos pieces ( their twill trousers are great!)and jigsaw and arket .
However, I think Zara are doing some great stuff at a better price point along with M and S .
Me +Em have regular sales so I keep an eye out for them, but if I was starting my wardrobe again , id have maybe one or two well cut pieces from them and make sure they go with at least half a dozen other things in my wardrobe. Their advertising is very seductive and I love lots of the new season stuff but sadly , not now unless its a really special occasion and even then Id think twice ! Its all about buying for your real life and not your fantasy life !

DelinquentSnails · 03/03/2026 21:29

I can’t wear their trousers and I find lots of the colours much too bold for my colouring. But I wore this today, from the winter collection with a pair of ancient Brora tweed cropped trousers and felt really well put together. The quality of the cuts of fabrics are really very good, and quite forgiving which makes a difference to me nowadays.

The dress I bought from
Me&Em for a wedding a while back is by far the nicest, best quality dress I have ever bought and I am a big shopper. I feel completely amazing in it. Expensive but absolutely worth it.

PJHarveyisagoddess · 03/03/2026 22:42

I can’t even admit to myself how much money I’ve spent on Me&Em clothes in the last 5 years but it’s a lot lot lot. Most things wash in the washing machine and have been worn 30 plus times and still look great. So well worth the price in the long run. I have zero time so knowing the clothes will fit well, hang well, wash well is worth it for me. I’m 5ft 2 but buy the short trousers and short or midi dresses. Outside of work I wear a much more vintage eclectic vibe but for work I don’t think you can beat them. Boden looks shit after two washes and so does Cos

That’s exactly the kind of thing they really well. Will watch for this in the sale, thanks!

I actually have a similar style blouse from Uniqlo but I know this one will have a nicer fabric and cut.
