How common is it for women over 40 to have chin hairs ?

I'm a 41 years old woman and I'm very embarrassed. I keep getting these chin hairs and I keep plucking them. I hear that unfortunately this can happen to women over 40 but I'm wondering how common is it.
Also what to do about it, other than plucking them with tweezers.

Oh as common as fuck! I've been plucking for years. I call them my witch hairs.

Have you darker, longer hairs on your upper lip yet?

The word "yet" in your question scares me. 😂

Just the chin, for now. 😬

Not to be annoying, when you say common, do you at least 10 % of women over 40 ?

Mine have gone grey now 😳 which is a mixed blessing.

Meadowfinch · 08/12/2025 02:07

Every woman I know over fifty has them

Just keep plucking 😁

Is it sick to say that makes me feel so much better ?
I feel less like a freak.

The ones I get on my chin are dark.

You're lucky, i'm not even 35 and get them, on my neck too. They seem to grow back overnight

Yup... I get a couple of "hairs of strength"... Jennifer Saunders talks about your trusted friend that will come into when you are in a coma and pluck them out when noone is looking :)

"Hairs of strength" has a nice ring to it.

I'm 38 and have had them years. I just shave them off tbh. Sometimes wax.

Wallywobbles · 08/12/2025 02:23

100%. I had my first chin/neck hair at 18! And I’ve had laser more times than I can count and electrolysis which hurts like a bastard.

I think 40 is very late to be getting them.

Sunndays43226 · 08/12/2025 02:25

Yup I have had them years ! From my 20s. I love having ten mins to myself to pluck them… the satisfaction!!

Ruthietuthie · 08/12/2025 02:27

Mine were like wires. They also caused little scabs as they broke through the surface, like little break-outs, which would take ages to fade as my skin is prone to scarring. I was constantly plucking them, waiting for the tiny points to be long enough to pluck, or seeing the little black marks underneath the surface, which would soon become a hair. Electrolysis got rid of them completely. Five years later (and after menopause) I have a new cluster, on my chin, again like wires but now white. I have an electrolysis appointment next week.
Get them zapped and the problem is solved.

I'm sorry. That sounds aggravating.

The comments are so validating because I too understand the satisfaction from plucking them.

I will count myself lucky that I didn't start getting them until 41

My mum bought everyone a pair of decent tweezers for their 40th birthday, with a card saying "you're going to need these..."

With my situation, I didn't get a heads up. 😂

I'm almost 34 and ive had them for easily the last 5 years. It's terrible, I get a proper moustache, on my chin and down my neck. Easily over 200 hairs I can pluck out if I don't keep on top of them 😭

Flutterbees · 08/12/2025 02:42

Chin, upper lip, neck. Something for you to look forward to!

Tigger18 · 08/12/2025 02:43

As you get older they spread down your neck, sorry 💐

I'll just have to keep telling myself that I'm not the only one this is happening to.

I just don't understand how fast they grow. I check my jaw/neck area literally daily and pluck any I see, but the next day or even later that day, I can find a new one that's at least 5mm long. Even men's beards don't grow that fast.

Just more validation of my private thoughts. How fast they grow.
