How common is it for women over 40 to have chin hairs ?

I'm a 41 years old woman and I'm very embarrassed. I keep getting these chin hairs and I keep plucking them. I hear that unfortunately this can happen to women over 40 but I'm wondering how common is it.
Also what to do about it, other than plucking them with tweezers.

I wrote above about this little thing, cheap as chips. You don't have to be able to see the hairs, just run the head over the rough area that your finger to tells you there is one, and it's gone. I find plucking with tweezers very painful round my mouth, and this hurts a lot less. It's a brilliant little thing!

Is this a true epilator, where it pulls the hairs out, as opposed to every time I search Amazon for epilators and it comes up with small cutesy razors 🙄

Yes it's a true epilator. I wasn't sure it would be until it turned up. I can't tell you how chuffed I am with how damned effective it is. It's about an inch wide, perfect for lips and chins.

Girl I discovered a frign back hair!!!! All wiry. I had to get my 12 year old son to pluck it. He was not amused 😅😅😅😅😅😅.
My mum has chin hairs. She is 70odds. Doesn't give a crap but I dont want to ask her to pluck them.

SlightlyTerrifiedButPolite · 12/12/2025 06:20

I started with one at 25 now have about 20 age 35! Some of them are so wiry also. And they seem to appear all of a sudden… pluck them then one day boom they’re all out in full force!

NavyTurtle · 12/12/2025 13:54

Mine appear out of nowhere - I am very blond but I have a good old pluck at least once a week. Its something we do have to keep on top of unfortunately. i actually get more on the upper lip and sides as opposed to the chin. probably tempting fate now!

TheFluffiestCat · 12/12/2025 14:02

It’s definitely a shared experience among my group of mid-40s female friends. I had one recurring one from age 30, and now millions after 40, to the extent that I bought a spare pair of tweezers to keep in the car. I’m generally dark, hairy and troll-like though.

HorribleHisTories15 · 12/12/2025 14:29

Those of us with Afro heritage have the double blessing of CURLY ones 🤪

ForTipsyFinch · 12/12/2025 14:34

I’m 35 and had them for years 😅

Howdoesithappenlikethis · 12/12/2025 18:03

I have to pluck daily now at 45, it's a never ending task

Over 40?
I’m 37 and I have got them!

Rhaenys · 13/12/2025 00:41

I think so. I’ve had mine since I turned 30.

miss79guided · 13/12/2025 10:47

DON`T worry about chin hairs
> nobody is bothered

Be more - chin up

I have always told my husband that if I am in capacitated and unable to care for myself, I expect him to be my discreet hair plucker. He laughed.

Just been in hospital for emergency surgery and was there for a week. Couldn't do anything for myself. I do need new glasses so without a magnifying mirror I couldn't see the dark hairs on my chin...he told me there was nothing....he nearly ended up in the bed next to me when my mate offered to sort it for me....Men!

My friend and her sister had arranged to be each other's chin pluckers if necessary.

101trees · 14/12/2025 08:04

I had two which would grow on my chin...

They magically vanished when I started HRT. I guess it was an imbalance due to lower estrogen?

My bikini line is ever expanding though. Don't love that.

Susgor · 14/12/2025 08:44

Amazon has it too, brand name Generisch.
I have one and it really works, plucks chin and moustache hairs out

GreyBeeplus3 · 14/12/2025 16:46

No mine are grey!

henlake7 · 14/12/2025 20:48

I gave up plucking in my twenties, just too many....i was outnumbered!😆
Nowadays I just full on shave or else in two days I would be sporting a big bushy beard.
No joke, I look like Brian Blessed!🙄

Livpool · 14/12/2025 21:26

I have one that has become the bane of my life!

Lurleenlumpkin79 · 15/12/2025 02:41

I actually started noticing mine at age 35. I've never been a particularly hairy woman either, so it was a bit of a shock to me. 😂

Overtheatlantic · 15/12/2025 03:01

I have one that tries to hide in a wrinkle on my left jowl. It keeps me humble.

Allseeingallknowing · 15/12/2025 19:22

No one mentions nose hair- doesn’t just affect old men!

I love it. I find it incredibly painful to pluck individual hairs, and much less painful with this little blighter. It's noisy, I think that makes it sound more violent than it is. It's just an epilator, meant to pull out every hair you run it over, I'm not sure how it could do that and be less vicious?

I had a hair "somewhere" on my cheek last night. Didn't bother trying to see it, just ran this thing over the general area and bingo, gone. I don't even bother warming up the area like they say you should.

Lifeinthemiddlelane · 19/12/2025 08:39

The Dr told me that going on HRT patches wouldn’t stop the chin hairs, but I was still hopeful that the boost in estrogen would fix the issue. Within days I noticed the thinning and reduced amount, within a month I no longer have any chin hairs at all! Not a single one! Wish I’d gone on HRT years ago.
