How common is it for women over 40 to have chin hairs ?

I'm a 41 years old woman and I'm very embarrassed. I keep getting these chin hairs and I keep plucking them. I hear that unfortunately this can happen to women over 40 but I'm wondering how common is it.
Also what to do about it, other than plucking them with tweezers.

Just wait until your eyesight deteriorates and you can’t see them clearly anymore, you can just feel them and fidget with them in meetings 😂

Are you my work bestie?
Haha 😄

Goinggreymammy · 08/12/2025 07:42

I use a thing called Pluxy. It is the size of an electric toothbrush and plucks them out as i move it around. I find it faster and longer lasting than tweezing. I keep it in my downstairs bathroom and zap them whenever I feel the need, but honestly its no longer daily.

purpleme12 · 08/12/2025 07:42

I thought it was common for women to get them who are younger than 40?

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 08/12/2025 07:45

I shave mine with a "proper" razor. It takes seconds every 3rd day. Plucking ended up taking too much time and I'd always miss a few.

I keep a pair of tweezers at the office because if I can suddenly feel one it will drive me to distraction the rest of the day.

I keep one pair in the car so I can stop and pluck at the bastard, becuse there will always be one I can touch when I'm stopped at a traffic light.

Wait till you get one really really long eyebrow hair!

Yes! The eyebrow hairs!

Newusernameforthiss · 08/12/2025 07:49

Yes, it's totally normal, electrolysis is great (I don't find it painful tbh) and better than plucking

Is it sick to say that makes me feel so much better ?
I feel less like a freak.

Oh please don't feel a freak it is irritatingly normal. I get mine waxed my hairdresser also does face waxing so I just get it done every six weeks, and if I need to.i just take a razor over them,.

ThatLilacTiger · 08/12/2025 07:51

36 and been getting them for a few years now since my pregnancies. Just like four dark thick ones but they're coming back faster and faster each time now. I keep tweezers in my car because there's something about the cold light of day sat outside work that makes them 10x more visible.

Another victim of the chin hair here!

thankfully it’s just one or two but I agree they spring up out of nowhere.

Also have started to get long ‘pube like’ 🙈 hairs on the back of my thighs - IS THIS JUST ME

I've had one persistent long black hair on the back of my thigh for years and I only usually remember when I'm in the bath and washing my legs.

No chin hairs (yet!) but another thick black hair regularly makes an appearance halfway down my (crinkly now) neck. And I have a few little darker hairs in the moustache area.

Add that to the spots that I get sometimes and it's no wonder it's hard to feel sexy at 57 sometimes...😂

I have one of these. I have to use DD's number 7 magnifying light up mirror to see them (poor eye sight too!) and regularly do my chin & moustache. The top lip hurts like he'll but I'd be there all day if I plucked them all
It's like lawn mowing my face!

Nannyfannybanny · 08/12/2025 07:56

Pre menopause (which was 42) I used to pluck eyebrows daily, roots done weekly,my hair grew so quickly. I'm now 75,was a blond so bodily hair was fine and light,am now 75 no more shaving legs and armpits, but the facial hair still growing. I had electrolysis ,yes it was really painful and I wasn't told in the beginning,it would take multiple sessions over a period of a year. My face looked all scabby as though I had some std,so it's tweezers now. My DD 55 shaves.

falalalalalalalallama · 08/12/2025 07:59

I started getting them in my mind 20s. 25 years later, I'd have a small beard on my chin if I didn't get rid of them!

After faffing with creams, plucking etc for years, I simply shave them off now.

Don't have any dark hairs on my upper lip, so there is that, at least!

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 08/12/2025 08:01

I've had them since my 20's. A LOT of them. Tried laser, not effective over the course I could afford.
Now have a home IPL and have had a lot of success on my legs, arm pits and bikini line.
But did it work on those bastard chin hairs?
Did it fuck.
I have to shave every single morning. And I can feel them again by the end of the day, Plucking lasted so much longer but my chin was always covered in sore lumps and spots due to it, so shaving is the way for me.

Ponderingwindow · 08/12/2025 03:07

I think the better question to ask would be are there any women on this site over 40 who have yet to develop chin hairs?

Me! I'm 45, no sign of anything sprouting anywhere on my face yet. If and when it does, would those IPL devices get rid of it?

Frikadelle · 08/12/2025 08:06

Finally a reason to celebrate my thin, barely there, lifeless hair. Body hair has always been practically nonexistent for me. I’ve never even had more than a few hairs to gather themselves into what should be eyebrows. I started getting bald in my forties. But at least I can say that I’ve reached my fifties without ever having a rogue hair make an appearance on my face. That would feel like a major injustice!

TheMorgenmuffel · 08/12/2025 08:07

very. I've a full on goatee and magnificent moustache that I have to wax.
One day I'll give in, grow it out, maybe start styling it a bit.

66babe · 08/12/2025 08:08

I went to have my usual eyebrow threading once and the lady said “ shall I do your top lip ? “ I said “ oh no I don’t think there’s much there “ she laughed and handed me a mirror .. 8 mins later it was smooth
I have 2 very sharp dark chin hairs that I pluck regularly.. nervously thinking of mentioning some of my pubes have gone grey…

Gettingbysomehow · 08/12/2025 08:16

I have one thick black chin hair, I am a natural blonde everywhere else so WTF! Its recently turned white to add insult to injury.

Ragamuffin8 · 08/12/2025 08:22

Try electrolysis by a BIAE qualified therapist. It’s a permanent solution, works by zapping and damaging hair follicle.

Clickncollect · 08/12/2025 08:22

I have found my people! I’m 48 and have been getting chin hairs since my early 30s. I do enjoy a good pluck though and sadistically enjoy the feeling of one coming up and it becoming my whole personality until I can get to a pair of tweezers!
One stupid thing I did about 6 years ago was to have dermaplanning and it made everything 100 times worse so I strongly advise against that!

SongInMyBrain · 08/12/2025 08:22

Omg yes. I've taken to shaving my flipping chin. There are so many. Plucking is not enough.

echt · 08/12/2025 08:24

I'm 70 and have one mature lady hair. On my hip. It appeared, suddenly and very long and dark, when I was around 40. On plucking it, it would re-appear about six months later. I haven't seen it for years.

I have no chin hairs, thank fuck.

XiCi · 08/12/2025 08:24

Get yourself a lumea or cheaper equivalent on amazon. They work. I've got rid of all face and arm hair, about to start on legs now.

Ginmonkeyagain · 08/12/2025 08:25

Oh mate. Try being pale skinned and dark haired with Mediterranean ancestry. I've not gone anywnere without tweezers since my early 20s.
