Weekly blow dries

Wondering how many people actually do this.

I work in a senior role in the city and really need to look good. I've started to have blow dries every couple of weeks, they last on me for 5 days and means I don't even have to think about my hair for that time.

Just wondering if anyone else does this. The costs are becoming crazy so not sure I can continue to do it despite being a high earner.

If I could afford it I absolutely would sadly not an option!

onceuponatimeinneverland · 04/10/2025 11:39

Isn't it like the old shampoo and sets that used to be a thing back in the 70s?
If it's becoming too expensive could you learn the techniques/buy the tools ?

brightgreenpepper · 04/10/2025 11:44

I look like a different person when I’ve had a blow dry but I’ve only paid for it a couple of times (outside of when I’ve had my hair cut) for special occasions.

I always say it’s the one luxury I would be happy to pay for if I won the lottery, but even then I workout regularly and get sweaty so it wouldn’t even fit with my lifestyle if money were no object!

Squishydishy · 04/10/2025 11:44

What about a Brazilian blow dry?

bluebettyy · 04/10/2025 11:45

Eww would that mean you wouldn’t wash your hair in between?

WallLight · 04/10/2025 11:45

I did this for years when I had more spare income. It was great.

brightgreenpepper · 04/10/2025 11:46

I’ve thought about trying to up my skills to do my own but it takes a pro about 45mins to blow dry my mane and I just wouldn’t have the patience.

Deerfolk · 04/10/2025 11:47

Some people don’t need to wash their hair all the time. It’s doesn’t get greasy and they brush it. Hardly ewwww.

Mydadsbirthday · 04/10/2025 11:51

I wasn't really asking for opinions how often I need to wash my hair but thanks! My hair doesn't get greasy, everyone's different. I wash it when it's dirty and always before going to the hairdresser.

Yes haha shampoo and set, is that still a thing?

How much are they charging?
I used to use one of those hot brushes, you could keep it in a desk drawer for top ups?

whataweekImhaving · 04/10/2025 11:55

How much is it? Maybe look around and see if anywhere offers it cheaper.

it’s convenient, it suits you, you feel good and it’s a time saver, so if you can afford it it’s a good idea.

indoorplantqueen · 04/10/2025 11:55

If you can afford it then do it. I know a few people who get it done and their hair lasts nearly a week. If you’re in a senior role and have the money and are time poor I’d say it’s cost effective.

Mydadsbirthday · 04/10/2025 11:56

I've had a Brazilian blow dry in the past, it made my hair a bit flat though. Was about 10 years ago though so maybe need to look into it again.

Because my hair is fine it's really fast to blow dry (well not by me but by the hairdresser). There's a lovely salon 5 mins walk away and an amazing stylist who can wash and blow dry my hair in under 30 minutes, it's incredible. I can literally pop there at lunch time or in between meetings if WFH.

I'm really interested to hear from people with senior or 'big' jobs who do this to look professional at all times.

If your hair can last five days then that’s amazing – I would definitely do it if I could afford it. I have greasy hair and really need to wash it every day. My answer has been a Dyson airwrap which pays for itself if you like blow dries, took me about a month to get the hang of it but once I did my hair always looks like I’ve just stepped out of the salon and I get a ton of compliments

MagdaLenor · 04/10/2025 11:58

If it's an investment in your appearance and makes a significant difference, keep going.

Animatic · 04/10/2025 11:59

Used to do that pre dc but stopped after, as I feel it was driving the final nail into the health of my hair + didn't have time.
But, I did feel fabulous while I had these ( there used to be this 5 blow dries and 5 💅 monthly membership card in one of beauty salons at canary wharf back then).

Mydahliasareshit · 04/10/2025 12:00

Heated rollers are incredibly useful when time or cash pressed. Just bung a few in for five minutes, continue whatever you were doing, and there you are with lift and bounce.

Mydadsbirthday · 04/10/2025 12:00

They used to do this "on the day" blow dry which was discounted to £20 which I thought was great value. Over the last couple of years that's crept up to £28, understandable given the higher cost of living all round. Everywhere else around here costs similar.

And for info I'm in a naice London suburb so cost wise not crazy compared to central London prices but not comparable to other parts of the UK.

If you love doing it and can still afford it then I would carry on. You could spend less on work clothes as a good blow dry has more impact. I did it one time when I had a very injured wrist for a few weeks and it was brilliant and made me feel more confident.

TheProvincialLady · 04/10/2025 12:08

If the price increase is £40-50 a month and you’re a high earner why don’t you just pay it, as the service is so convenient to you?

Oh wow I've never used these. Do you used them on dry hair I assume so blow dry your hair first?

Well yeah I am paying it at the moment but it feels like a huge luxury. My mum, despite being pretty wealthy would be appalled if she knew how much I spend on this.

So wanted to know if other professional women do this as it's not something I've ever really discussed at work or with friends IRL.

OP posts:
MagdaLenor · 04/10/2025 12:12

Well, to be fair, it's not your mum's money, is it? If you look good, feel good and can afford it, carry on.

justanotherdrama · 04/10/2025 12:15

It’s your money and if it’s a nice luxury for you to enjoy then I absolutely would. I just couldn’t afford it but if I could I’d be there without a shadow of a doubt.
I book one every Christmas Eve morning and for my birthday and other special occasions and it’s a lovely little boost.
