Weekly blow dries

Wondering how many people actually do this.

I work in a senior role in the city and really need to look good. I've started to have blow dries every couple of weeks, they last on me for 5 days and means I don't even have to think about my hair for that time.

Just wondering if anyone else does this. The costs are becoming crazy so not sure I can continue to do it despite being a high earner.

Didn't really want this thread to become about that but yes I have a DH who earns, plus some private income, wouldn't be possibly otherwise.

The point of this thread wasn't really about affordability, it was to ask about others' experiences and habits.

Self declared high incomers really don’t like it when anyone expresses surprise at how much they seem to be able to afford on said income and / or the high income doesn’t seem especially high to them 😆

Prepared to duck….

What is the problem with high earners on Mumsnet ? Six figure or not most people have to make a judgement call on what they can afford , are they not allowed post ?

😆

I am a fairly high earner and come from a very high earning family from which I have benefited enormously!! no beef

Just chuckle when I see a high earner getting agitated with a response that indicates a poster doesn’t think the high income is that high and / or not high given all the outgoings!

I am most intrigued by the op having fab hair for 50% of the time only. Why not just throw in another couple of blow dried to enjoy 100% great hair!

Mydadsbirthday · 07/10/2025 08:59

@Scrummyfun no agitation here whatsoever. Just trying to keep the thread to its original subject.

It would seem that unless I mention the OP’s income, then she won’t respond but hey ho - I will still ask.

Do you have the same hairdresser every time?

beachcitygirl · 07/10/2025 16:13

My other half got me 52 blow drys for my 50th birthday. Best year and present ever! If I could I would. Is there a cheaper local salon where a more junior hairdresser could do you? I’m on hunt near me or perhaps local colleges that train hairdressers?

Well, of course I'm not going to respond to your goady and rather bitchy post.

Yes get a blowdry once a week. Generally get five or six days out of it. For me it is 100% worth it for confidence and saving time. I would give up a lot of things before I would sacrifice my weekly blowdry. I know several professional women who do the same so it’s definitely a thing. Only downside is I get very used to having good hair and it drives me mad then on holidays etc when I have to do it myself.

Bloobelly · 07/10/2025 20:31

I wonder if any of your colleagues (female more likely!) notice that for 10 days a month you have fabulously swishy hair and for the remaining 20 days not fabulously swishy!

mdinbc · 07/10/2025 20:59

I think you need to work out your total grooming budget. Do you get nails done, colour and cut, botox, fillers or other skin treatments?

What some people spend on nails could be your hair budget. If you can afford it and find it beneficial, then go for it.

Ah, the old wash and set. I would watch my mum do her curlers on a Saturday morning, the teasing and hair spray just before lunch when hair was dry. Lord help you if you were in the bathroom while she was spraying! Her set was similar to Queen Elizabeth at the time. Her set seemed to last all week with a bit of tweaking and more spray.

Evergreen21 · 07/10/2025 21:18

You can afford it so why not? I don't myself as it's not needed or expected in my job and I don't earn anywhere near your income. If i could afford to have one regularly then I would.

I have a younger sister in a corporate role who is doing well for herself and she gets one at least once a week. Hers lasts 3 days before she needs to wash it as her hair is prone to getting greasy.

You don't need to feel guilty about spending money you be earned on yourself. It makes you feel good so go for it.

I'm amazed that the blow dry lasts for longer than the day you get it. Doesn't your hair get messed up when you sleep/ go yo the gym /run /walk outside/cook.

You just protect it, same as you do with curly hair
mine is curly and I sleep with a silk pillowcase, clip it up for exercise and cover it if I’m cooking
I don’t have the time to wash and dry mine daily or every other day so it needs to last! Also hairspray

I most definitely do not get mine done once a week/fortnight or even month, but in my experience I could leave my hair for a week sfter a proper ‘do (I don’t because my scalp starts to itch but it doesn’t get greasy).

it must depend on your hair; I think I discovered this accidentally as for years I’d automatically wash it after a couple of days post-haircut. It was only when I had less time and started to stretch out the time between washes that I made the miraculous discovery.
