Weekly blow dries

Wondering how many people actually do this.

I work in a senior role in the city and really need to look good. I've started to have blow dries every couple of weeks, they last on me for 5 days and means I don't even have to think about my hair for that time.

Just wondering if anyone else does this. The costs are becoming crazy so not sure I can continue to do it despite being a high earner.

On your salary you can easily afford £150 per month. The issue you have is that you seem to think you have to justify this. Why ? Honestly, just do it. It clearly makes your life easier on several levels.

Roundup9 · 05/10/2025 10:42

I don’t get how a presumably confident, intelligent, successful person in a senior role is so unsure of themselves that they are asking anonymous posters to ask if they’re reasonable in how they spend their salary 😵‍💫

Actually that wasn't what I was asking. I was asking to hear from women in similar life circumstances do the same. So if you're not in that situation and don't have the reading comprehension to understand, jog on.

This is style and beauty where posters are generally supportive and kind.

well we can’t help you with that op 🤷‍♀️

only you know if you can afford it

and £28 seems as cheap as chips to me as a Londoner! The only alone doing it for those prices tend to be barbers with a hairdressing chair in the corner

Arcencielle · 05/10/2025 11:15

Very senior role in the city, I have my hair religiously blow dried twice a week, Monday and Thursday/Friday.

Arcencielle · 05/10/2025 11:19

I should also add that even if I am not really sensitive to the cost, I usually have it done in a salon next to where I live which is nearly half the price I pay in a big chain in the city. Unless I have no choice.

hellswelshy · 05/10/2025 15:08

Sorry to hijack op, but finding the thread interesting! I too love a blow-dry, had one in Spain recently for a wedding and my hair looked amazing. I don't like too coiffeured a look, not too straight either, it was bouncy and modern. Can I ask those in the know, for my just below chin length bob, would you recommend a heated blow-dry brush or heated rollers if I were to attempt an at home finish?

Try both
it’s very user dependent

PersephoneSmith · 05/10/2025 15:17

My grandmother is 90. She has never once washed her own hair. Every week shampoo and set at the hairdressers since she was 14 😱
horrifies me, truly

One of the things I say if I won the lottery is that I would get a weekly blowdry because even when I wash it 2 days later, the styling is somehow still there when I blow dry it.

Edited

Yes I agree, it seems to imprint my hair with blow dry memory .

Thetrainer · 05/10/2025 17:49

I do this and definitely not on six figures but I never/ rarely buy coffee or lunch out. My blow dry costs about 5 premium coffees.

Like a lot of things it’s about choices.

I say a Dyson Airwrap

Savoury · 05/10/2025 23:10

I’ve done it for speaking events and conferences and it makes a difference. I get about 3 days out of it. My MIL lasts a week as she has a technique for keeping it going - a big of back combing to keep it bouffant! Works for her and looks great.
Personally I’d only do it for big occasions but I do spend a fortune on colour and nails.

Savoury · 05/10/2025 23:12

I also note my local hairdressers offer a blow dry club - unlimited hair blows Mon-Fri fo a fixed monthly cost.

Ruthietuthie · 05/10/2025 23:14

I do. Similar to you, I have a job where I need to look polished. And I am rubbish at blow-drying my own hair.
I go every Tuesday morning, first thing, straight after school drop off. If it is looking a bit flat, I may wear it tied back (in a neat French twist) on Sunday or Monday, Monday I tend to work from home.
It works for me. I wouldn't go back.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 05/10/2025 23:29

I saw an ad for a subscription service in the city for unlimited blow dries

TheSixthBestOption · 05/10/2025 23:35

It sounds like its worth it for you so I would spend the money and not feel guilty.

BUT this thread is such an eye-opener for me. I think i must have a very different type of hair to most people as I've never had a good blow dry at a salon. I've been to lots of different places, including high end expensive places, and they all blow dry my fine hair so it is very flat and lifeless. If I'm going out that evening, I end up wetting it and redrying it myself to get some body into it. Im so intrigued that so many women find a professional blow dry makes such a difference.

My hair is so greasy I wash and dry it every day. It takes me 5 mins to dry it. How can it take an hour? I'm genuinely so confused as to how my hair seems to behave so differently to nearly everyone on this thread!

RuthW · 06/10/2025 01:23

I was a hairdresser in the 80s and 90s. It was very common for lots of women to have a weekly blow dry. I think it’s one of the perks of having a ‘good’ job. Look at it like you would a cleaner. Money well spent. £28 is a bargain. It was £8 in 1987.

Roodlegum · 06/10/2025 05:58

I can’t imagine many men in senior positions on 6 figure salaries tying themselves up in knots about spending a poxy £28 a week on themselves

Roodlegum · 06/10/2025 05:59

Side note

if it’s only £28 and in London outer… then this most definitely isn’t going to even be close to an indulgent experience!

Not even every week.

twice a month!!

Roodlegum · 06/10/2025 06:08

so every month it goes

5 days post blow dry amazing hair
followed by 10 days of… not amazing hair?
followed 5 days post blow dry amazing hair

the only odd thing is that you don’t just get weekly!

My hair is like yours, I just ask for a rough dry after a cut as the blow dry leaves me with flat hair. I’ve got very fine hair as well. I absolutely couldn’t leave it 5 days without a wash either, 3 days max and it’s pretty greasy by then. If it wasn’t highlighted (making it drier) I could probably only go two days without a wash.

Hollietree · 06/10/2025 07:53

Some of the salons near me offer a “blow dry club” service. You pay a monthly fee and you can have 10 blowdries a month. Maybe have a look for that.

It’s not cheap but I’ve done it on and off over the years for a treat.
