Weekly blow dries

Wondering how many people actually do this.

I work in a senior role in the city and really need to look good. I've started to have blow dries every couple of weeks, they last on me for 5 days and means I don't even have to think about my hair for that time.

Just wondering if anyone else does this. The costs are becoming crazy so not sure I can continue to do it despite being a high earner.

I’m not a high earner or in a high powered job (I’m a TA 🤣) but I do similar. I treat myself once a week on a 4 weekly rotation of nails, root tint and blow dry, pedicure and gel toenails and massage. I wouldn’t hesitate it I were you.

Louisetopaz21 · 04/10/2025 14:12

I have a babyliss big hair brush which drys my hair and makes my hair really swishy.

CoralPombear · 04/10/2025 14:13

I’d love to do this, a salon blow dry is so much better than I can do at home but I run most days so wash my hair too much for it to be worth the money. I did invest in an airwrap which is pretty good if you like a bit of curl.

Happycow · 04/10/2025 14:13

Honestly if youre earning in the high six-figures then £28 a week should be unnoticeable. And the benefit in terms of how you feel is huge - money very well spent Id say! People spend that on nails, or coffee and i would personally great hair every day a very worthy investment!

Bellyblueboy · 04/10/2025 14:51

OP misspoke - she isn’t earning high six figures - she is earning low six figures (probably around £175 a 200k.

big salary but not super wealthy

Mydadsbirthday · 04/10/2025 12:17

@TorroFerney yes I'm client facing, mid forties, high six figures. Of course nothing would happen if I stopped doing it I guess I would just feel less confident and I'm in a position where I just need to be on it all the time.

Crack on then I’d say. I assume it probably saves you loads of time as well. I’d struggle as I love having my head under the shower! But you are fortunate to have hair that stays in place after you’ve slept.

Loveduppenguin · 04/10/2025 15:35

My mum does…every Friday morning.

Mydadsbirthday · 04/10/2025 12:11

Well yeah I am paying it at the moment but it feels like a huge luxury. My mum, despite being pretty wealthy would be appalled if she knew how much I spend on this.

So wanted to know if other professional women do this as it's not something I've ever really discussed at work or with friends IRL.

If it's a service the hairdresser offers then there's a lot of demand for it , although it's probably not something senior women talk about in the board room, if they all gave nice hair , they're probably getting it done . My neighbour is a home hairdresser . We live adjacent to a wealthy area and she has a nice appointment where she goes round and blow dries a lady's hair every morning .

bluebettyy · 04/10/2025 11:45

Eww would that mean you wouldn’t wash your hair in between?

I only wash mine once every 7-9 days x

Livpool · 04/10/2025 15:44

I don’t but my mum does as she can’t do her own hair

Rosesarere · 04/10/2025 15:57

it sounds like it makes you feel fantastic. 100% worth it in my opinion x

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 04/10/2025 16:00

Unless absolutely skint, I suspect we all spend money on stuff that would horrify our mums! Mine would find my gym membership ridiculous for starters. If you can afford it and it makes you feel confident then crack on. Also helping to keep your local salon going providing jobs etc

Viviennemary · 04/10/2025 16:03

If you are a high earner it's not that much.

mondaytosunday · 04/10/2025 16:07

Why would you wash your hair before going to the hair dresser? Don’t you get it washed there?

Well, I just see it as a courtesy. I don't always do it but if I haven't washed my hair for 5 days I think it's a bit grim. It's a bit like going to the dentist and cleaning your teeth beforehand. That's how I see it anyway

Do you have a partner with a high salary too? Because I’m frankly amazed you manage this if you have 2 in private school plus a large mortgage, with cost of living rising. If you can afford then do do it but are things are a little tight on the financial side?

VanCleefArpels · 04/10/2025 17:09

Get a Dyson air wrap - gives professional looking finish which lasts for days. Life changing!

Chewbecca · 04/10/2025 17:09

How about a weekly appointment with a mobile hairdresser? They're generally a fair whack cheaper and will usually have great blow-drying skills. And you don't have to go to the salon thus saving even more time!

AndSoFinally · 04/10/2025 17:09

I’ve got a Babyliss Big Hair. I’m awful at hair but even I can manage this. Use it on hair that is almost dry or on dry hair to give it a bit of a freshen up. It looks very similar to after a professional blow dry on my fine hair

Greencactusgirl · 04/10/2025 17:13

Never having to wash and dry and style my own hair would be my dream - I would certainly do it if I could afford it,

It’s wealthy enough to be able to afford a weekly blow dry

My dm earns approx 38k a year and affords it…you don’t need to be a millionaire, it’s just priorities…

Bathmatinthewash · 04/10/2025 17:22

I go to a salon like yours for my hair colouring cos other places made it the wrong shade.
(Is it a 3-word name?)
I see what shampoo & conditioner etc they use on me & buy it off Lookfantastic cos its cheaper - I look around.
Then I take my products to cheaper local salons for them to use weekly.
Try this?
Get your hair blowdried cos its a timesaver for you.

clipboardz · 04/10/2025 18:02

She can still afford a blow dry unless she is single as 2 sets of school fees & a big mortgage will eat into that salary.

EssaDiTractor96 · 04/10/2025 18:39

I am in a v similar position to you, with media appearances and conferences etc, male-dominated, well-paid.

My hair is naturally well-behaved, so while I don't spend on that, I do spend a significant amount on a top end dermatologist (my skin used to be problematic before doing this). I also love a well-cut suit and have a real Net-a-Porter addiction.

As PP said, this is an investment in your career. Being beautifully- and interestingly- dressed is part of my personal brand (alongside being good at what I do!) while the dermatologist and facials help me feel great about myself every day. So spend the money and don't feel guilty!
