Weekly blow dries

Wondering how many people actually do this.

I work in a senior role in the city and really need to look good. I've started to have blow dries every couple of weeks, they last on me for 5 days and means I don't even have to think about my hair for that time.

Just wondering if anyone else does this. The costs are becoming crazy so not sure I can continue to do it despite being a high earner.

Ps and I have no doubt that every other woman around my various board tables is having regular blow drys.

MyElatedUmberFinch · 04/10/2025 18:52

My friend does, she spends £45 per week
and always looks fab.

EveryDayisFriday · 04/10/2025 19:14

If it works for you OP then awesome. My hair needs washing every 3 days at least but keeps a decent style after a good blow dry for that time. I go to the hairdressers every 3 weeks for root touch up and blow dry but I've learned a good blow dry technique that works for me for the rest of the time (took me 20yrs to perfect it).

It’s wealthy enough to be able to afford a weekly blow dry

It depends on other outgoing and OP’s priorities.

£150 a month on getting your hair washed and dried is a lot. OP has a big mortgage and school fees and countless other expenses.

Yes strictly speaking she can probably afford it in the strictest definition. However, what she is getting at is how high should she prioritize this spend - and it’s hard to know what this will mean -

£150 less a month in savings
£150 less a month on eating out
£150 less a month on fresh flowers

out of those I would sacrifice the fresh flowers, but not the savings or eating out!

WorkCleanRepeat · 04/10/2025 21:46

I used to do this midweek before I had kids and became time poor. It was probably a bit of an expensive way to keep my hair clean and tidy but we weren't going without anything.

AnamCaillte · 04/10/2025 21:55

A lot of my colleagues do this. I have curly hair so better doing it myself than at the hairdressers but if I liked the results I’d spend it. I’ve spent a lot this year on my work wardrobe (lost a lot of weight) and am happy with the investment in myself and my career.

HedonistHuntress · 04/10/2025 22:01

I try to schedule “big” meetings over three days every other week in London and have a blow dry on the Tuesday morning for meetings tues to Friday inclusive and have great hair for that. I do have lots of meetings with women so as my bouffant collapses I don’t really mind as I know we’re all chasing our tails irrespective of what we delegate.

it is expensive but it is worth it and my mother would be horrified but this is a woman who would spend twice what I would spend on a car and a house so things change.

HRchatter · 04/10/2025 22:05

I paid 32 quid for a blow dry in Liverpool. You’re doing very well there.

bluebettyy · 04/10/2025 11:45

Eww would that mean you wouldn’t wash your hair in between?

I was just waiting for that. 🙄

Roundup9 · 05/10/2025 07:23

dontcomeatme · 04/10/2025 15:41

I only wash mine once every 7-9 days x

Why? Because you don’t like washing your hair? Because it doesn’t need it?

@dontcomeatme

Roundup9 · 05/10/2025 07:26

One of the things I say if I won the lottery is that I would get a weekly blowdry because even when I wash it 2 days later, the styling is somehow still there when I blow dry it.

They used to do this "on the day" blow dry which was discounted to £20 which I thought was great value. Over the last couple of years that's crept up to £28, understandable given the higher cost of living all round. Everywhere else around here costs similar.

And for info I'm in a naice London suburb so cost wise not crazy compared to central London prices but not comparable to other parts of the UK.

wtf!!! You live in London and you’re paying a paltry £28 for a blow dry??!!

I live in London 16 years ago and it was more than that if I ever treated myself!

onceuponatimeinneverland · 04/10/2025 11:39

Isn't it like the old shampoo and sets that used to be a thing back in the 70s?
If it's becoming too expensive could you learn the techniques/buy the tools ?

I have fortnightly blowdrys ...my hair is a nightmare to look after being thick and coarse and it's my little treat... I'd have it every week if I could afford it! I have a lady come to my house to do it which saves a bit of money. I think of it exactly like you describe, the modern version of the old shampoo and set!

She lives in the suburbs where it is generally a lot cheaper.

I would do this if I had the hair that held a blow dry. Mine drops after 30mins.

And I now live an hour out of London

if I ever treat myself £48!!

I earn in a similar bracket, mortgage paid off and DC have been put though private school education. I've found it's as much about time as money - I don't have the time to sit in a salon having my hair coloured or blow dried. Its more time efficient to do these things myself at home, though the end results may not be quite as effective.

DropOfffArtiste · 05/10/2025 08:00

I work in a senior City role and had a professional blow dry for my recent corporate headshots. It looked fantastic and I got many compliments. It was about £50 though. I'd love to do it every week but I don't work client facing and only in the office two days a week so it doesn't really make sense. Plus I run, swim and workout frequently. I bought an automatic curling iron which is great and foolproof to give a bit of extra polish, but I will get the professional blow dry next time I'm doing a speaking event.

@dontcomeatme

@Roundup9 it doesn't need it. I wash my body throughout the week obviously. But hair just doesn't need washed as often as people think. The soap industry is worth billions because they tell you you need a different product for every body part, every new season, full moon, period, etc. Just unnecessary chemicals stripping our body of its natural oils and microbes and biome.
These images are on day 8! I took photos last month because my friend thought I would look like a rat drowning in grease 😅

I have several friends who are the same they wash once a week at best. I wash mine twice a week.

I can often smell when someone’s hair needs a wash. It’s an oily unclean smell. It’s very distinctive

I don’t believe you are close enough to anyone in real life that you ever have cause to be physically close to them

JustAnotherMinionForAMerchantOfDeath · 05/10/2025 08:24

I’d spend the money in your shoes. But you could look at a Korean or digital perm if you want it to be more manageable at home but not as flat as a Brazilian blowout

Doggymummar · 05/10/2025 09:16

My friend gas just bought a package. It's £100 a month, maybe thats a better deal?

What's your definition of "need a wash"?
My hair doesn't need a wash every day, but after a week it would.
