Weekly blow dries

Wondering how many people actually do this.

I work in a senior role in the city and really need to look good. I've started to have blow dries every couple of weeks, they last on me for 5 days and means I don't even have to think about my hair for that time.

Just wondering if anyone else does this. The costs are becoming crazy so not sure I can continue to do it despite being a high earner.

I've had a Brazilian blow dry in the past, it made my hair a bit flat though. Was about 10 years ago though so maybe need to look into it again.

Because my hair is fine it's really fast to blow dry (well not by me but by the hairdresser). There's a lovely salon 5 mins walk away and an amazing stylist who can wash and blow dry my hair in under 30 minutes, it's incredible. I can literally pop there at lunch time or in between meetings if WFH.

I'm really interested to hear from people with senior or 'big' jobs who do this to look professional at all times.

What do you class as a senior or big job? I think you do what you want with your money and if it makes you feel better and more confident then yes do it. But, what would happen if you didn't? What would happen if you objectively didn't look good? I am older so probably not as bothered about my appearance for full disclosure. I'm head of something on just shy of £100k, is that a big job?Maybe not. But I don't see clients and it's IT and most of my colleagues are blokes.

JLou08 · 04/10/2025 12:16

I've always been rubbish at styling my own hair but the Shark Flexstyler has been a game changer! I'd give that a go if you're struggling with the costs. Obviously it is a lump sum to purchase but you'd save the cost in blow dries within a few months.

Mydadsbirthday · 04/10/2025 12:17

@TorroFerney yes I'm client facing, mid forties, high six figures. Of course nothing would happen if I stopped doing it I guess I would just feel less confident and I'm in a position where I just need to be on it all the time.

Id love this. Can you work things out so you can work from home when your hair is undone. Or if you can afford it upgrade to weekly blow drys.

Bonjamin · 04/10/2025 12:19

It’s more common than you’d think. My hairdresser (Welsh market town) says she has a few regular clients who come in for their weekly blow dry - professional women, as well as the last of the shampoo and set ladies. I think she charges a slightly lower price because of the regular slot.

If you can afford it, and it gives you a boost, why let your mum make you feel bad about it? We’ve all got some personal ‘treat’ that seems unjustifiable to others. I never begrudged my mum the money she spent impulse buying in QVC and she didn’t query the small fortune I paid on pet insurance.

Eww would that mean you wouldn’t wash your hair in between?

Obviously?? How else would the blow dry last.

How about a bun? It's classic and looks professionnal. And it's free:)

turkeyboots · 04/10/2025 12:20

One of my local hairdressers does a blow dry subscription service. You can pick 1 or 2 or 3 a week.
I love the idea, but have no desire to go to the hairdresser that much.

MoominMai · 04/10/2025 12:20

Sounds as though you’re almost guilty. But it boosts your confidence, makes you look and feel good - and bonus is that it’s a sort of investment in your career as well where image (rightly or wrongly) is an important element of your job. You’re hitting enough requirements and benefits’ as it were, to definitely justify the expense! Go live the blow dry dream!

windandrainy · 04/10/2025 12:21

Sadly I need to wash my hair every day, but if I had the kind of hair/hormones that meant I could get five days out of a blow dry then I would absolutely be doing this!

Law firm partner?

I'd say if you can afford it then do it. You probably work long hours so I expect it's a time saver too.

That sounds great I wish mine did that!!!!

when I’m mortgage free I’m all over this! I’m not a big high earner sadly but I like to look nice all the same!

beautyqueeen · 04/10/2025 12:24

I think £28 is very reasonable! I’d be happy paying that twice a week to never have to do mine again!

If you’re wanting to try and replicate it at home I would recommend the Dyson airwrap and the color wow root spray.

Think you've hit the nail on the head there! ❤️

In my home country, we have this. Wash, blow dry and set - you buy a package. The more you include the price drops. I wish we had something like this here. A superb job for £12. I could cry thinking about the mediocre hair dressers here who charge about £80 for a standard hardly any effort hair cut and then ask if you want your hair blow dried.!

MumofSpud · 04/10/2025 12:30

I’ve been having regular wash / blow dries - it’ll last 4 days. It’s great time saver!
But I split it between 3 hairdressers as I think it’s a bit weird to do Blush
The cheapest I pay is £33Confused - south east town

Motheranddaughter · 04/10/2025 12:33

Get a blow dry every Friday morning
best £30 I spend

RainbowZebraWarrior · 04/10/2025 12:33

I've been having weekly blow dries for about 3 years. It's £27 where I am (NE coast of England) but I can buy a block of 4 with the newly qualified stylist for £60 which is obviously a huge bargain. I get it washed, blow dried straight and then curled. I have a feeling this price will be going up soon as its been too good to be true for a while (it even used to include a treatment mask, hot towel and a 5 minute scalp massage)

Uberaddict · 04/10/2025 12:34

@Mydadsbirthday - Big job here with a lot of public facing and big events (think Film premieres ) on a fortnightly basis. I do get blow dries done for these. Have found a local mobile hairdresser who is very reasonable but not much less than you pay. A shark for in between blow dries. Nails and brows done and a dress subscription. Probably comes in at about 250/ a month. It is a penalty certainly for being a female at a senior level but it is also non negotiable. Probably the norm for most people in my industry

Whichhandbag · 04/10/2025 12:34

I think spending on your image is part of having a senior role. Annoyingly. I can't really go into the Boardroom looking like a tramp. That said, I actually hate the blow dry look on me - doesn't suit me at all. But the same money is spent on clothes, shoes, make-up etc. Sometimes its a pleasure and sometimes it's a chore. If you love it and have the cash, just do it. I would compare it to having a cleaner, ocado delivery etc - saving you time and effort!

PrimSec · 04/10/2025 12:36

High six figures? To me that must be over 700k, as otherwise it would be “mid six figures”. It seems mad to be wondering about £28 a week, ie £4 a day! Or in other words, at most 0.2% of your gross salary (I understand net will be much lower as tax is significant, but still). I’m sure most women on this board spend a way, way higher percentage of their wages on their hair!

So my salon has started doing this - the starting price is £150 a month and it goes up depending on the level of stylist you want and the type of blow dry etc. I have no idea who has the time or money for this because I'm probably their target market and I couldn't justify it.

rockstarshoes · 04/10/2025 12:37

I don’t but would love to!
some people have a facial once a month, or nails once a week, or Botox every 6 months! Some people do all of it others bits of it!
If you can afford it & it saves you time & gives you confidence why would you stop? Don’t feel guilty about spending money on yourself!

bluebettyy · 04/10/2025 11:45

What! 🤣 I wash my hair once a week and straighten it once a week. You do not need to be washing your hair daily or every other day. Not good for your hair.

TheProvincialLady · 04/10/2025 12:38

I’m also a high earner with a senior job. I don’t have my hair blow dried but thankfully how I look is not as important in my line of work. I do spend my money on lots of things my mum would find extravagant (also my in laws, who have always had a very modest income) but I’m an adult earning my own money and I don’t justify how I spend it to anyone. You’re absolutely allowed to get your hair blow dried every week even if you’re the only woman in the world who does it!
