Weekly blow dries

Wondering how many people actually do this.

I work in a senior role in the city and really need to look good. I've started to have blow dries every couple of weeks, they last on me for 5 days and means I don't even have to think about my hair for that time.

Just wondering if anyone else does this. The costs are becoming crazy so not sure I can continue to do it despite being a high earner.

I so wish I could have that done! I have curly hair so drying it takes bloody ages

High six figures? To me that must be over 700k, as otherwise it would be “mid six figures”. It seems mad to be wondering about £28 a week, ie £4 a day! Or in other words, at most 0.2% of your gross salary (I understand net will be much lower as tax is significant, but still). I’m sure most women on this board spend a way, way higher percentage of their wages on their hair!

Sorry I was writing quickly, definitely not 700k 😂 I meant over £150k so what I wrote doesn't make sense, luckily I'm not at work right now! Haha

My mum used to do this, but think it was cheaper back then! She had curly hair which she didn't like, so she got it blow dried straight and it lasted her the whole week

I've had a Brazilian blow dry in the past, it made my hair a bit flat though. Was about 10 years ago though so maybe need to look into it again.

Because my hair is fine it's really fast to blow dry (well not by me but by the hairdresser). There's a lovely salon 5 mins walk away and an amazing stylist who can wash and blow dry my hair in under 30 minutes, it's incredible. I can literally pop there at lunch time or in between meetings if WFH.

I'm really interested to hear from people with senior or 'big' jobs who do this to look professional at all times.

I used to do this when I was working. If you can afford it & it makes you feel better, just do it

Comedycook · 04/10/2025 12:40

When I worked full time and had a baby I used to get my hair blow dried once a week in my lunch hour. My hair is very thick and frizzy and it takes me ages so at the time it just made my life easier. This was nearly 18 years ago though and it only used to cost me £20 in central London! Those were the days!

I don’t but would love to!
some people have a facial once a month, or nails once a week, or Botox every 6 months! Some people do all of it others bits of it!
If you can afford it & it saves you time & gives you confidence why would you stop? Don’t feel guilty about spending money on yourself!

Yes very true!

I don't have Botox. I'm lucky to have great skin. I spend hardly anything on skincare. I never get my nails done, I don't have time and I have quite nice nails anyway. I get a facial and a pedicure about once a year.

My hair's quite grey but again it's just too expensive to have it coloured professionally and takes too long so I've actually got quite good at doing it myself, do it about once a month on a Saturday morning and it looks pretty good.

I do spend too much on a very nice gym membership. I go about twice a week and I'm in good shape but that's obviously important for life generally - also where I work is quite alpha male dominated and everyone almost without exception is fit and sporty. It's a tough environment to keep up with but I do like it.

My Nan did not wash her hair herself once in about the last forty years of her life. I would love to copy her, but my waist length hair and fringe are not conducive to twice weekly hairdresser trips!

second the idea of heated rollers - or if you’ve got a decent pair of straighteners you can learn to give yourself a straightener blow out with big Velcro rollers

Canicule · 04/10/2025 12:46

I don't have a big senior job and don't live in the UK but here's my tuppence worth...

I have similar hair @Mydadsbirthday , in that a good blow-dry would last me 5 days. I regularly get a blow-dry, as it takes me an hour to dry my own hair, not as often as weekly though.
I looked into a monthly offer; as many blow-dries as you like for €240 - but I couldn't make the times work as in reality there was limited availability at the salon. A single blow-dry costs ~€35 so would need to get 8 a month to make it worth it - if I lived closer to the salon and they had better opening hours I would seriously do it.

AhWeNoss · 04/10/2025 12:47

My mum gets a blow dry every week. Her hair lasts and doesn’t really get dirty, so she gets a weekly blow dry for £25.

She’s in her 60s and never really worked, yet feels the need to look presentable with good hair everyday.

I’m a senior professional and my hair gets greasy quickly so I have to wash every 2 days if I want it to look fresh (I can manage longer if I’m wfh). It’s a faff but I do the whole wash, dry and style at home every couple of days. If I could pull off a lasting blow dry, I would definitely do it too but it doesn’t work with my hair.

You earn £150k and you’re worried about paying to colour your hair?

Princessfluffy · 04/10/2025 12:49

If you earn “high six figures” ie £800k or thereabouts then surely this is a total no brainer?

Bellyblueboy · 04/10/2025 12:49

I am in a senior role and have been contemplating this. I often get my photo taken on stage or for this awful LinkedIn and X posts. When my hairdresser does my hair it look great - me not so much!

bat as you say it’s a big expense every week.

i have been experimenting with hair products that will keep my hair looking slick for longer - no luck!

my hairdresser has also given me a new style which is easier to maintain - but I look at female colleagues and know which ones have their hair professionally done every week!

WhatTheFuk · 04/10/2025 12:51

Mydadsbirthday · 04/10/2025 12:17

@TorroFerney yes I'm client facing, mid forties, high six figures. Of course nothing would happen if I stopped doing it I guess I would just feel less confident and I'm in a position where I just need to be on it all the time.

High six figures and you are fretting over a £20 blow dry?

PrimSec · 04/10/2025 12:55

That makes more sense!

I can see the dilemma more then. I do think the £4 figure a day is still an interesting one. It makes it on par with the famous “coffee a day”, which is often classed as a little luxury. I probably would go for it in your shoes.

Bellyblueboy · 04/10/2025 12:57

LittleBearPad · 04/10/2025 12:49

You earn £150k and you’re worried about paying to colour your hair?

Everyone has different commitments and spending priorities.

i am in a senior role - earning close to this poster. I am single, big mortgage and wouldn’t spend a couple of hundred a month on a cut a colour (that’s what it costs in me area).

clipboardz · 04/10/2025 12:58

Eww would that mean you wouldn’t wash your hair in between?

It's hardly eww 🙄

Ilovegoodison · 04/10/2025 12:58

I get my hair blow- dried at a local salon approx once a week. It lasts 3-4 days and then I need to wash it. I've been doing it for years but the cost has increased quite a lot in the past 2 years or so. I get the most junior hairdresser to do the blow- dry and the cost is £28. She's actually very good. The most senior stylist charges £50 which I could never justify. They offer a dry- style option also ( where you wash it at home yourself beforehand) for £15, so sometimes do that to keep the cost down. My hair is quite frizzy and difficult to style , so it's worth it from my perspective. If it makes you feel good and you can afford it, then keep it up!

bluebettyy · 04/10/2025 11:45

Eww would that mean you wouldn’t wash your hair in between?

Don't be ridiculous. It's absolutely fine to wash your hair once a week

illsendansostotheworld · 04/10/2025 12:59

I would love to do this every week!!

clipboardz · 04/10/2025 13:00

One of my senior colleagues does this and everyone comments how good she always looks.

InSpainTheRain · 04/10/2025 13:01

I've not done blow-drying for work, but I do make sure I get a really good cut so my hair always looks professional. I see he same guy every time and he knows that I won't style it myself, I just want it to fall into place. Perhaps consider this rather than blow drying? It's much quicker as I can wash my hair in the shower every day but don't have to blow dry.

Mydadsbirthday · 04/10/2025 13:02

Already explained I do not earn £700k plus!

Yes I do earn over £150k but I have a huge mortgage and 2 teens in private school so yes we are careful with whatever is left over. Hence feeling guilty about the cost of hair.

I'm not planning to work at this level until I'm 70 either so I'm just trying to be sensible.

@PrimSec yes £4 a day when you look at it like that! I rarely buy coffee out!

Toofficeornot · 04/10/2025 13:06

My hair is dry and wirey, looks fine if I havent washed it for two weeks and blow drying it takes about 45 minutes at the least and I would do this if I had the money and time to fit in the hairdressers.
I think I would need a real lot of money to justify it though. I have found ways of tying it up and using clips so I don't have to style it.
I think it really sepends on if you want to spend 3 grand on blow dries in a year or put that money into something else. If you were to invest it over ten years you could have 50 grand in the bank. Now if your salary is so high that this is peanuts then what does it matter. But if this is a big sum of money for you then just style it yourself. I earn quite well but 3 grand on blow dries is over the top for us.
