IF YOU ARE NEW TO BEAUTY ADVENT CALENDARS AND WOULD LIKE IDEAS PLEASE READ THE THREAD FIRST

Annual Style and Beauty Advent Calendar discussion thread. First AC reveal this year was 23rd June. First luxury reveal was 2nd July.

Thread 1: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5360770-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion

Thread 2: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5388836-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion-spoilers-thread-2

The regulars on the thread mainly discuss luxury BAC and this dies down by September when everyone has purchased and forgotten the contents. Then it goes into discussion on what’s selling out, what hasn’t and what deals and discounts to be had on ACs in the lead up to December. Then in December we move onto AC opening threads!

There’s a separate thread for GWP, discounts and other deals here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5389635-beauty-chat-freebiesgifts-with-purchaseoffers-thread-four

A thread for the Liberty Beauty Drop here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5253698-liberty-beauty-drop-spoiler-from-the-despatch-date-part-9

Ive just seen the full Glamour contents, and am very disappointed. Like others, I expected that they would go all out for their first offering.

The horrible hot pink leopard print make up bag, the bright blue crimped scrunchie, a bloody phone charm! Rubbish.

I thought it looked like it was half aimed at kids (I think from the heart bracelet thing; it reminded me of one of those sweetie bracelets) I'm pretty shocked at the price.

I agree with you, things like phone charms, lash curlers, hair clips and costume jewellery dont scream premium to me. I think it would be a good box for a late teen/early 20s, but pricey for that age range.

Agreed. I thought it was a bit confused in that sense. Some stuff for a mature consumer - hair growth serum, actives, jewellery but then a bunch of stuff that looks a bit Claires Accessories. I don't think there was a lipstick in there either. Not even the ever present MAC one.

That's a phone charm, not a bracelet. The phone charm is a wildcard, but Vogue have the bag charm this year so maybe it's a thing. I actually think it is not a million miles away from a more budget version of Vogue actually - blush stick, Vieve product, hair growth serum, face sculpting tool, primer, bracelet, necklace, claw clip, hair balm/mask, body butter, liquid blush, a fragrance and a charm.

Personally I actually prefer the combination in Glamour, the only real duds for me are the Avant, the Able (which seems to be another Avant/Symbiosis), the scrunchie and the phone charm. I really like the jewellery, it reminds me a little of the jewellery from Vogue 2023 so I think it does suggest premium tbh.

I'm not sure how I feel about Glamour really. More thought required, but it's not a definite no.

Can anyone who has already bought one tell me how robust the boxes are in the Look Fantastic advent calendar? I'm looking for one with good stuff but also reusable for storing Christmas decs (have done this with the Sephora one in the past, which was super strong)

I got the fragrance one. The inner boxes aren't very sturdy, enough to be resuable for a while maybe.

Debenhams has very sturdy boxes. I watched a video yesterday and it's not one I'm interested in I thought it was okay for £150. Lots of double doors.

@owlpassport I agree about it being a bit Vogue like. I don't hate it but couldn't justify it at £165 given all the other AC I've bought. If it ends up decently discounted at any point I would reconsider.

OvaHere · 26/09/2025 11:12

This looks good for cream and serum lovers. Decent price too at £179. Website states very limited.

The large vanity case is nice too.

IlovePond · 26/09/2025 11:50

Re: Glamour

I would be interested to know how ‘good quality’ the jewellery is as I am unfamiliar with the brand.

I actually quite like the flat make up bag!

Sadly the palette has talc, so not for me.

On a related note:

I have actually started using a dangly phone strap which I put it round my wrist if I have to get my phone out in public. There’s a huge amount of phone snatching where I am, so I am hoping it might be an extremely minor deterrent. It’s not very strong/at all strong but I am thinking thieves would be more likely to grab a phone loose in a hand than not.

Sadly it does make me look like a wannabe 12 year old, though, so perhaps I should reconsider 🙈🙈🙈

Itsanewme · 26/09/2025 11:51

I’ve finally decided on the Brown Thomas one
It is the most I’ve ever spent on a BAC
It’s usually Boots premium for me or Look Fantastic.

MidnightMeltdown · 26/09/2025 12:06

I don’t like the jewellery in the Glamour calendar personally. From the pictures, it looks really cheap to me.

Mafstonight · 26/09/2025 12:09

Sorry if this is the wrong thread to ask on but can anyone recommend a good skincare advent for a youngish teen please (14)? They don’t wear make up at all so just skincare.

Budget as far under £100 as I can possibly manage!!

Thanks so much

IlovePond · 26/09/2025 12:20

I suspect you are right @MidnightMeltdown it’s an odd mix of stuff.

IlovePond · 26/09/2025 12:30

@Mafstonight one of these might be ok if you checked the ingredients and removed anything with ‘strong’ ingredients:

Alternatively, you could get an empty advent box - TKMAXX sell them - and fill it with the 3-4-2 Byoma, Bubble and White Fox skincare currently being sold at Boots:

Branster · 26/09/2025 13:16

@Mafstonight the suggestions to create your own are the way to go I agree.
Clarins do a skincare range for young skin. It might be worth visiting some Clarins counters when you are out and about and ask for samples. I haven't been to a Clarins counter in years m, but they used to be very generous with samples.

Mafstonight · 26/09/2025 13:24

Fantastic replies, thanks. I actually had the Boots one in my basket before I posted so may still go for that but will check them all out and also price up doing my own. That would be fun actually and I can be more choosy about what goes in.

Growlybear83 · 26/09/2025 15:29

@OvaHere. Oh dear - I’m very tempted by the oh my team calendar. I think they used to be naturisimo? I think I woukd use most things and I like the bag.

OvaHere · 26/09/2025 16:26

Spotted a Yesstyle BAC unboxing. I love this and it's great value although it has a lot of make up so not for everyone. The box design is fab.

I wondered why I'd never heard of them. I vaguely recall a Naturisimo one last year maybe.

I'd definitely be interested if I hadn't bought loads already. I really like the bag, it looks like a really useful size.

lookonthebrightside0 · 26/09/2025 17:21

I’ve just had an email from cult beauty. £20 gift card if you order the BAC with code ADVENT

MidnightMeltdown · 26/09/2025 18:34

Warning to anyone thinking of ordering Glossybox:

I ordered this as there were a few things that I wanted to try, and a few bits that I could pass on. One of the things I wanted to try was the SPF setting spray. However on unboxing it, I noticed that it has an expiry date of 03/2026, so if you are unboxing in December, this means that you only have 2 months to use a 100ml SPF product in January and February! I’m not at all impressed with this, and it makes me wonder how long their other products have been hanging around.

HollyGolightly4 · 26/09/2025 19:04

I like that Glamour has a mix of products in, even if they aren't all to my taste.

Giftwithpurchase · 26/09/2025 19:23

I'm struggling with the alleged rrps quoted for the glamour AC - I mean a scrunchie for £40 and a £30 claw clip (let alone the £90+ avant 🥱 and this new A brand for £77). That just annoys me so I won't buy it. Be honest about the worth!
