Trainers for wedding outfit/ trendy / comfy

omega4ever · 30/07/2025 22:20

Im going to a family wedding soon and have a dress and jacket and bag all from vinted that I like. I want to wear trainers of some sort with my outfit... I have feet issues and can't bear the thought of uncomfortable shoes for 12 hours.

What trainers are trendy please ATM.
Either white or white and light or sky blue ... I like my old suede navy adiddas gazelles but they are quite battered and I think I'll treat myself to something new having saved on the rest of my outfit.

Please help. . Or suggest something else. I hate open toe sandles so these are not an option either.

I was a guest at a wedding a few years ago, and the night before I stepped over a wonky paving slab and turned over on my foot, twisting my ankle. The next day the only shoe I could physically get my foot into was a pair of battered old trainers, not even nice or stylish ones, and it was a choice between wearing those and not going to the wedding. I wore them, nobody died, it was fine.

I love the ones you’ve chosen OP, enjoy the wedding!

But that is a totally different situation because it wasn't a choice.

It depends on the wedding and the friend group, surely?

I'm not being "stuck in the past" to say that most of the weddings I've been to people HAVE still dressed up and trainers would have been very out of place. However I've also been to weddings where they would be fine, even expected, and where someone dressed up to the nines in heels would have been the one standing out.

I dont think you can say "absolutely" one way or another. What would be "absolutely" fine in one wedding would be completely out of place for another. We accept that expectations, customs and dress codes vary in pretty much any other social situations and events, why not weddings?

Op who actually knows the bride and groom is the only person who can say for sure. I think what people are reacting to is that she ISNT saying its the type of wedding where trainers will be expected and common - she's (particularly in her first posts before she clarified saying she doesn't think the b&g will care) was only saying she is a a "rebal" and "unconventional" and prioritised her own comfort over anything else. Which was why people were criticising her.

However I do agree that lots of the "compromise" suggestions are pretty hideous and trainers would probably be better than them.

If a wedding invitation states heels required, the only way I could attend would be bare feet and carrying the heels. My feet would be raw with blisters. Flat shoes give me blisters (including pumps and Mary Jane’s), even Birkenstocks give me blisters. It’s not a whim or a fancy - my skin is paper thin, even new trainers have to be carefully broken in. It’s lovely that people can wear whatever shoes they like to an event, not everyone else is that lucky.
Hope you have a lovely day OP.

I don't think that's particularly relevant- for starters, nobody else at the wedding knew that it wasn't a choice. Also the OP has feet issues, so doesn't sound like it's really a choice for her either.

I think it was at Prince Harry and Megan’s wedding that an elderly royal family member wore a dress with trainers and that was probably for safety reasons and I thought she looked amazing,

If a wedding invitation stated heels I'd be turning it down on principle!

And in the whole history of weddings this has happened?

They may be controversial but I love these:

Wow, rude or what! You go in your clumpy cart horse trainers and be laughed at, who cares.

The OP wasn't rude. In fact, she was much politer than I would have been in the face of those Pavers monstrosities.

spoonbillstretford · 04/08/2025 11:35

No-one will bat an eyelid at your wearing trainers to a wedding, as long as they are smart and clean, and if they do bat an eyelid, it's because they haven't a clue and you don 't want to bother about what they think anyway. Brides wear them these days.

Love the ones you've chosen OP. Here are some other ideas in case anyone wants to do the same.

It was the Duchess of Kent and trainers are ok if they are white and smart. What you wear with them really really matters though! She looks great and note the length of dress! Long!

If you really really have to wear trainers, have a look at these. They come up small but feel like the softest leather and aren't as clumpy as regular trainers

My mother used to wear shoes like that, when she was 85 and couldn't walk very far.

I think someone who likes Adidas Gazelles is probably not going to be into Pavers.

TizerorFizz · 04/08/2025 12:04

Also if you wear fashion trainers you can easily wear comfortable pumps. Many firms cater for feet that need a bit more support. Queen Camilla wears Sole Bliss. Lots of comfortable options from them.

Hesma · 04/08/2025 13:15

It should but with the cost of living £400 doesn’t go far. Rather than giving her money, take your twins shopping and buy some of what they need then you know your money is being spent on them.

Shortpoet · 04/08/2025 13:20

These superga have a white floral pattern really cute. I’ve got the plain version which are really comfy, but I might have to get these too.

OK but no need for the op to have been so rude??

Whenever anyone suggests ballet pumps or Mary Jane’s on these threads it makes me sad, but to have those Pavers suggested is just awful.

OPs description of them is perfect.

OP wear the trainers and have a lovely time.

What’s wrong with pumps or Mary Janes? The pavers, yes I agree, horrible, but these are flat comfortable shoes that can be dressed up or down, and quite fashionable at the moment.

Ddakji · 04/08/2025 13:54

I’ve worn trainers to both the last wedding and the last funeral I went to.

I’m not in the market to be uncomfortable for hours on end to satisfy others.

Ddakji · 04/08/2025 13:57

Tuningfork · 01/08/2025 11:38

Just my ha'penneth....I generally don't give a sellotaped zebra what people wear. With two exceptions. Weddings and funerals.

If you turned up to either my wedding or my funeral wearing trainers, with no better reason than 'they're comfortable', I'd be really, really pissed off.

I’m surprised that you’d be so bored that you’d notice.

If you’re that judgemental at your wedding I doubt they’d be many people at your funeral anyway.

Nothing wrong with them but they are not always a great option for someone struggling with their feet like the OP. I have flat feet and part of the reason I got plantar fasciitis a few years ago was that I wore ballet flats all the time which have no arch support. Even now, while it has never come back, I wouldn't risk it by wearing very flat shoes with a thin sole all day. Most, not all, trainers have more support.

TizerorFizz · 04/08/2025 15:40

@spoonbillstretford Op would not be wearing them all the time. It’s one wedding. Trainers are ok if glitzy enough! However I’m well aware of the need for comfy shoes and the brand I recommended are well known for smart comfortable shoes. The op needs to try some shoes instead of saying trainers only. She might be pleasantly surprised.

  • OP will be wearing them for 12 hours
  • She already bought trainers and is sorted for the wedding

I get blisters all the time too. I’m thinking of starting to use a MLE lotion on my feet to see if I can prevent deterioration as I age. Do you use any helpful foot skin products?

I was responding to a post that mentioned heels as part of a dress code and reading some of the replies on here it wouldn't surprise me if it did 🙄
